Fire Consumes WTC 7-Size Skyscraper, Building Does Not Collapse

Giant flames engulf every floor of 44-story building and it remains standing, yet limited fires across just 8 floors of WTC 7 brought down building within 7 seconds on 9/11. How can NIST’s “new phenomenon” explain this one?
A fierce fire consumed all 44 floors of a skyscraper in Beijing today, shooting 30 foot flames into the air, but unlike the similarly-sized 47-story WTC 7, which suffered limited fires across just eight floors, the building in China did not collapse.
“The fire was burning from the ground floor to the top floor of the large building, the flames reflecting in the glass facade of the main CCTV tower next to the hotel and cultural center,” reports the New York Times.
“The 241-room Mandarin Oriental hotel in the building was due to open this year. Flames were spotted around 7:45 p.m. and within 20 minutes the fire had spread throughout the building, dominating that part of the city.”
“Hundreds of firefighting vehicles and police blocked off all approaches to the building – which was also set to house a luxury hotel due to be opened in 2009 – with flames appearing to leap 20 to 30 feet into the air,” adds The London Times.
Compare images of WTC 7 with those of the skyscraper fire in Beijing. Note that the Beijing skyscraper appears to be leaning due to the unorthodox design of the building – it did not suffer any kind of collapse.

To any sane and rational observer, which of these buildings would have been the most likely to collapse? And yet it was WTC 7 which collapsed within 7 seconds into its own footprint on 9/11. The Beijing skyscraper, though gutted by fire damage, remains standing.
How do the debunkers explain away this one? How come NIST’s newly invented “phenomenon” of “thermal expansion” didn’t put paid to the skyscraper in Beijing? Does fire have different properties in China compared to the U.S.? Does it behave in different ways depending on what country it’s in?

Remember that WTC 7 was structurally reinforced and suffered limited fires across just 8 floors.
The core of NIST’s explanation, that an “extraordinary event” called “thermal expansion” was to blame for the sudden total collapse of WTC 7 is of course on the face of it a fraud when one considers the innumerable number of buildings that have suffered roaring fires across the majority of their floors and remained standing, whereas WTC 7 suffered limited fire damage across a handful of floors.
The Beijing skyscraper fire provides yet more comparable evidence to illustrate the monolithic hoax that fire damage alone can cause buildings to collapse implosion style, adding more weight to the argument that both WTC 7 and the twin towers were destroyed by explosives that were seen and heard by dozens of eyewitnesses who were at ground zero.
Take another example – the Windsor building in Madrid, a 32 story skyscraper which was a raging inferno for no less than 24 hours before fire crews were able to put out the flames. Despite the building being constructed of columns a fraction as thick as those used in the WTC twin towers, as well as a total lack of fireproofing, the building’s top section only partially collapsed while the integrity of the whole structure remained firmly intact.
Compare these images of the Windsor building fire to those of WTC 7 and the twin towers.
The skyscraper fire in Beijing offers another stark and bold reminder that when one eliminates the dodgy, agenda-driven, and incomprehensible delusions of NIST, one fact remains abundantly clear;
Office fires – even the flame shooting towering inferno variety – cannot cause modern buildings to implode in on themselves and collapse. Only deliberately placed explosives can achieve this end. The Windsor fire, the Beijing skyscraper fire and many more yet to come painfully underscore the awful truth that the only way WTC 7 and the twin towers could have collapsed in the manner that they did was by means of controlled demolition.

How hot does concrete have to get to explode into pyroclastic flows? Why is my “fire safe” at home made out of steel if fire even weakens steel?
Fact is fire itself has NO way of effecting structural steel. You must have temperatures well over 2000 degrees. Fires in an office building could not get that hot even with O2 injection.
If your “weak” theory (pun intended) was at all plausible then the building would show a NON-asymetric collapse. Use common sense.

the argument is that a steel structure becomes soft enough to sag at a temperature they suggest is within reach by the fuel fire.
but even if that were granted (which it is not), does it become soft enough to cut itself into neat 30′ chunks for quick removal?

steel doesnt melt at those temps, and wouldnt have the air needed to induce temps like that. shit, acceteline burns as hot as jet fuel, ans dont do squat to steel, except cover it with soot…however, pure oxygen at specifif ammounts…presto! thats what thermite does, oxidizes. the fuel is iron/aluminum, and when burned combined with sulphur…super oxidiation, (no oxygen need be added)…viola!

The architects and the structural engineers design the buildings and the constructor just builds them under supervision of architects. Most building in China and Dubai are designed in the US. That was some silly comment on your part. Just accept the damn thing like you have accepted the MK Ultra and all the other horrible things and then do something about it.

Let me explain to you the process, After the construction documents are ready and you get all the permits, the architect goes on the site for 1-2 years depending how long it will take for the building to get built. This phase is called Construction administration and every building is done in the same manner unless there is a Construction Manager which is hired by the owner and works as a liason between the architect, builder and owner. Again, most building in China and Dubai are designed by american firms. The architects choose the structural engineers so they do not pick people they did not work with before so the whole project gets designed in the same place. many big architectural offices like HOK have offices in Honk Kong and many other locations in Asia. So there you have it. Please verify what I am saying here before you get rude on me…Why is that when the doctor tells you something you listen to him, when an architect or an engineer tells you something you comment and call him stupid?

Has anyone brought out the point that maybe the WTC buildings were pre-wired for the type of senario? Think about it. What was in the offices and what information was in those buildings?
What happens if an army chopper goes down with minimal damage(Like in Iraq) and in order for the chopper to stay out of the enemies hands, the chopper gets blown up by one of our own to keep the technology or the possibility that it could be used against them in the future.
Pre-wiring is just a measure used to justify the ends or cause the truth from being brought out into the open.

as a licensed structural engineer I can say with absolute certainty that fire CAN bring down a skyscraper. it is NOT designed into the plans either. in the towers it’s easy to do the calculations that show the mechanism of it’s collapse. it has to do with column effective length and the effects of removing bracing points. AISC Steel Construction Manual 16.1-39.

As a mechanical engineer with a BEng and MSc, working in the plant relocation business which involves taking buildings down and dealing with steel structures, as well as being a person who has a modicum of common sense I assure you that you are talking out your structural engineering ass.
Symmetrical collapse, impossible anyway, would require symmetrical, equal damage, impossible from an impact on one side of the building. Also, any lay person with at least one servicable eye needs only to look at the footage of the incident, ignore the media propaganda and admit that what they are looking at are explosions. It is as obvious as breathing.
The official story of collapse is so patently ridiculous that the mind boggles. Scooby and Shaggy could solve this case and still have time to find that it was Old Man Jenkins scaring kiddies in the haunted amusement park, all before the first ad break.

Then perhaps you should have majored in Structural Eng rather than pressure vessels and heat pumps. Get out your calculator and run the numbers. PLUS, it was not a symetric collapse! The only thing symetric about it was that it went down. Draw a mock up of a section of the structure, then apply plastic hinges one at a time at likely locations. You will see that the eventual collapse mechanism will mirror what was exhibited.

And why would I apply plastic hinges? Did the hijackers get out of the planes and replace the connections with plastic hinges? Oh right it was the heat from the fire that made the heavily redundant connections behave plastically. Go get a beam and pour petrol on it and see does it melt. I wager it doesnt. What about the heat sink capacity of so much steel, would the heat not have been absorbed into the steel? Melting steel (or heating it to plasticity) requires the use of a forced flame like an oxy-ace torch, held at the steel for a period of time. I don’t need to have majored in Structural engineering to apply engineering reasoning to this problem, engineering is engineering, and I did plenty of structures, and I take down plenty of structures. if it as easy as setting fire to them I would have an easy job. Alas its more involved than that. Check out Danny Jowneko the dutch demolition expert who agrees with the controlled demolition explanation. And it was a symmetric collapse. If it falls down symmetrically then that is a symmetric collapse. Fall, go down, come down = collapse. Consult a dictionary on that one.

Even -IF- that building were to fall, i would bet my left testical that there is no way, in gods name, that the building will fall in any manner even remotly like the WTC buildings. SHOULD it fall, it will probably topple over, not cascade straight down into its own footprint.

i am curious. let’s say that the plane did cause the collapse and the fire afterwards. it still does not explain how the building fell at free fall speed. this is what people should understand. the inner core should have still been standing even with the pancake theory in place. Also all the floors were held together like a mesh net. They were designed to bend not break. So the floors pancaking still should have met considerable resistance. 40,000 bolts, aluminum and steel, cross mesh, etc. etc. All of these things should have guaranteed resistance and slowed down any collapse. The only way free fall speed can occur is if there is no resistance. NO RESISTANCE = EXPLOSIVES = CONTROLLED DEMOLITION = SOMEONE, US OR THEM, PLANTED EXPLOSIVES. Can you imagine middle eastern people dressed as contractors running around WTC 1,2 & 7 before 9/11 and no one noticing?

as a licensed structural engineer I can say with absolute certainty that fire CAN bring down a skyscraper. it is NOT designed into the plans either. in the towers it’s easy to do the calculations that show the mechanism of it’s collapse. it has to do with column effective length and the effects of removing bracing points. When the entire building is on fire. there is no cold steel for the intense heat to be “wicked” into. The WTC system fires were limited to only a fraction of the entire building, leaving 80% or more cold steel to accept the heat from the fire consumed areas.
This Chinese building is completely engulfed and ALL the steel is exposed and yet still it stands (and will be repared and eventually open for business). It has absolutely nothing to do with build quality. What planet do you geniuses come from? {rolleyes}

Yes agreed, steel doesn’t need to melt to become significantly weaker, it just needs to get not far away from the melting point. Steel can be yellow hot and maintain its strength. The malleability of metalt does not unifromly increase with temperature. Phases change occurs at specific points; it’s not for no reason that we talk about melting POINT and boiling POINT not range.

But the claims of some of the truthers do seem pretty fuzzy. So what was the backup plan for the people who wanted WTC7 to go down in the event parts of the twin towers didn’t hit it? Even if you show a strong motive for hitting WTC7, and ive heard the stories about important documents and departments and such from the documentaries, don’t you think whoever carried this out would have had some backup plan? Everyone always uses WTC7 as the ‘indebunkable’ evidence, and as a infowarrior and 911 truther and architect, I see how it could have been set up…..but we have to be realistic, there is no evidence that shows the debri from the towers didn’t disrupt the structural integrity enough to make the building collapse. Why couldn’t it? There is only a few bad pictures of that hole in the side of the building. You can’t see and I don’t think anyone knows really how deep the hole was. Just because the building gets hit on one side doesn’t mean its going to fall that way. are massive caissons on the other side of the building…they aren’t just going to be pulled out of the ground. And steel is as strong in tension as it is in compression….maybe stronger. Can you imagine the massive steel columns being pulled apart to make the building fall sideways? I think it was inside job too, but i don’t think its that clear cut. (no pun intended)

Please give me a detailed explanation from the perspective of an architect Mr. Advocate on why it would have been crazier for WTC7 to have fallen over sideways rather than at free fall speed symetrically into its own footprint? We’ve all seen photos of earthquake damaged buildings that were asymetrically damaged that fell over near the at the base structurally intact above. My limited capabilities of architectural analysis just can’t why the building wouldn’t have bent or leaned, or given any indication that it was unstable before suddenly dropping into the path of most resistance. I think it would most incredible of all if the accidental design flaw/s in this building would cause its core to spontaneously disassemble (see videos of penthouse dipping before building goes down). In terms of motive….why bother? Or if you’re so interested, try and do some journalistic research and see if you can come up with more than has been discovered already. Also, don’t forget that you can see pictures of the other WTC buildings that were essentially destroyed by WTC 1 & 2’s debris, but amazingly what parts didn’t get hit were still standing and had to be demolished by crews in the cleanup.

That sounds plausible. To be honest, I’m still not sure which side I believe and it’s hard to really respect anyone’s opinion here because everyone just keeps calling each other “idiot.” However, one thing that I have noticed is that the physical evidence of 9/11 seems to be about 10% of the big picture. I’m pretty convinced that the government had prior knowledge that something was going to happen. Thermal expansion & contraction expansion in everything, always.
The formula is called the coefficient of thermal expansion, which means each material type has a constant multiplicative factor, therefore it can be fairly accurately calculated as to how structures will act in certain conditions.
This is the reason there are joints in side walks at a certain size, exterior walls of buildings have expansion joints at a certain increment, and everything pretty much. Why do you think parking lots crack?? If the surface area, or volumetric area, gets too big in a singular continuous mass it will crack from temperature change, unless the material composition can handle the internal density changes.
With that said, when you people say dumb ass things like “thermal expansion does not exist”, it makes you look retarded.
With that said… large steel frame buildings do not fall from thermal expansion because all members and joints are designed with it in mind so that the building does not collapse from fire. To say that incompetent engineers with a failing design created our iconic buildings is ridiculous.

I worked in a iron foundry for 6 years ..in the furnace department so I know all about melting steel / iron. No fire burning without a lot of mechanical or chemical help can melt steel. Don’t forget that WTC7 and the other towers steel were coated with asbestos, absolutely the best fire retardant around, it just causes cancer. Despite being coated in asbestos, they still claim fire brought down these buildings, anyone who knows about asbestos knows that it just isn’t possible.

the asbestos was one of the reasons why they dropped the buildings.. it was going to cost hundreds of millions to replace it in those buildings and the only reason why they werent demolished before 9-11 was so they could bring them down for the effect they wanted.. to spread poison through the air of NYC and create a reason to invade the middle east, plus a country-wide, trauma-based mind control operation.

I have worked in structual engineering analysis and testing all of my adult career and that includes structural steel framing which includes different grades of steel with bolted and welded connections, steel reinforced concrete, composte floor decks involving trusses and joists and diaphragm systems, fireproofing and fire ratings and fires alone do not bring down buildings the way they fell on 9/11.
I have read the different versions of the NIST reports going back to the very beginning of this mess, from plans being reviewed at the Architect’s office to the old black and white film recordings of how the towers were actually built. I am not kidding anyone when I tell you all, that at every turn of these investigations there a gross misrepresentations in the official story and investigations.
It started when they sited the Contract Drawings at the Architect’s office early on in the investigation. If you have any background in the industry you can’t go by those drawing and you have to look at the, “approved Fabrication & Shop Drawings, along with the approved Field Erection Drawings,” which show the actual connection details. The Architect’s Contract Drawings CAN’T show the actual construction details, because the Fabricator is required to submit these details for approval by the structural engineer of record, which is usually a contracted professional structural engineer(s), which is an aspect of meeting contract requirements. That is to say, the approved Fabrication, Shop & Field Erection Drawings depict numerious and specific details that ARE NOT SHOWN on the Architects Drawings until after the contract is awarded.
This basically means that many of the structural systems and components that end up as an aspect of the building are actually designed and approved way after the Architectural Drawing have been made.
Their next big mistake in the early investigation was to make the claim that the trusses were only bolted with two(2) 9/16″ diameter bolts, per the Architecturals. People, this is totally wrong!!! and those bolts are required to be two(2) 3/4″ diameter bolts which are for field erection and worker safety during steel erection operations. These connections require backwelding after the pieces have been erected, aligned as an “assembly” and this goes back all the way to the earliest ASTM steel truss connection requirements where composite diaphragm decks are to be utilized. I have actually seen this same error made by others reading similar Architecturals for other buildings quite a few times, rather than going by the approved Fabricator & Shop Drawings. This is not something a steel erector or qualified field engineer would would get mixed up, but administrators and desk people frequently do and are not aware of these differences.
From that point it just got worse and worse as the investigations moved foward, sour as a High School band on a cold day trying to play the National Anthem. The investigations we got really stink to high heaven when you consider opposite hand details being read wrong by the investigators to projection details that were also misread and I have to swear it’s all intentional to get the numbers they need to make the offical story work.
Like tell me I was driving my pick up and got a flat and did not have a spare, but bought a bicycle tire and rim from a farm boy and mounted it and drove away. It’s that bad and knowing this is like living in an isolation bubble when the masses dont’ get it and everyone says your nuts. It’s all about winning a popularity contest and advertising a story that people will believe long enough to get away with such a grand heist and damn it, they are outrunning the clock and conviction for this crime by giving us the run around, as the masses call us tin foil hatters for not knowing any better. The longer this goes on, the better their chances are of getting away with the crime of this century and much more!!!
Damn them and America, you had better start asking some serious questions, starting from the beginning. I have also seen other construction lies in my lifetime and this has the same kinds of twists but only on a much grander scale.

Actually there are a couple ways the buildings could have come down, 1. Implosion, with conventionaL bombs. 2. Scalar Wave Technology, the usage of sound like precision coming from two bands of frequencies to converge into this scalar wave(sound wave). Both ways look’s very similar, Heck I believe Alex Jones had at one point on his site a sound wave device used in NewYork to disperse crowds for crowd control. Pretty much same concept but more focused energy obviously. You ask where would this focused “Scalar wave” would come from. Good question, It could come from a Plane in the sky or Satallites orbiting earth. Or both for that matter used in conjunction.
What did not happen which we all know is that those buildings came down by fire alone. I don’t think so. This report needs to be picked up by all the news outlets and media because it really does make it very clear of what did not happen on that Day of 9-11-01.

run these theories by folks who actually know this stuff. Structural engineers. They’ve held entire conferences on this you know. There are engineering schools that specifically study structural failures. They don’t have a huge problem with standard explinations.
Why don’t you informed experts attend those conferences and argue with those guys?

On some ISPs, if you wait a long time between loading the page and submitting your comment, any text entered won’t be retained in the cache and will be dumped. Particularly if you use a proxy or firewall. If you have something really great to say and don’t want it getting lost, compose it offline in a word processing program, reload the page, cut, paste, and submit very quickly.
Then again, some are getting removed because the posters’ IP addresses are flagged and/or suspicious as known gov’t/media agents.

As if engineer’s would build a building that would collapse under fire. WTC 1 and 2 feel perfectly so did WT7. Their design flaw made them fall perfectly too? They fell without Resistance! It seems to the rational observer that a 747 crashing into a building would cause more structural damage than fire alone. I’m no expert, but wouldn’t the force of the multi-ton aircraft traveling at several hundred miles per hour be a traumatic experience for a building? Not to mention the load of jet fuel which, beyond the damage of the initial explosion burns, I assume, much hotter and more quickly than building materials. Large buildings are built to withstand normal disasters such as fires and earthquakes, but it is extremely doubtful the designers of the World Trade Centers anticipated the need to withstand giant airplanes crashing into the towers.

This is horrible. The ONLY counter-argument not mentioned though, was the fact the Twin Towers were smashed by “hijacked” planes. Fact of the matter is, the collapse happened later then logical physics would state. Even so, that brings a flaw to this argument.

I am a kettleman on tar and gravel crew. We do roofing with very hot tar. A machine called a kettle is used to melt the tar to around 600 degrees Farenheit. ( The surface temp. catches fire at 525 degrees F.) I use two propane-fired torches to melt the tar inside the kettle. These torches are very hot – it takes a lot of heat to make 350 gallons of hot tar. I use these torches day in, day out, for hours. The torches blast white-blue flame into two tubes along the bottom of the kettle. The tar on top is thus melted from solid-state to hot,hot liquid. Why doesn’t the metal simply melt and the whole damn thing just collapse into a mess? These torches put out about 600,000 B.T.U’s. each and they sound like jet engines! Why doesn’t my kettle melt down every day? Just a thought and a question. It seems a little fire can bring down 48-story buildings. Why doesn’t my kettle melt down?…

The small airplane that hit the Pentagon had to have been a military aircraft because the Pentagon has anti-aircraft batteries that will shoot down any flying craft that does not give off an IFF (Identify Friend of Foe).
Commercial airplanes do not have an IFF so even if they shut off their transponder they would not get within 10 miles of the Pentagon.

Civil passenger aircraft use a transponder which on radar will indicate a four figure code and altitude information. The control centers use callsign conversion software to link the code to the aircraft callsign. A pilot can, of course, dial in whatever code he likes. Unless you’re a hijacker its in your interest to comply with the code given by air traffic control. Norman Mineta, the Transport Secretary, testified that he was in the White House bunker with Cheney and they watched the radar contact (aircraft/missile) approaching the Pentagon. Missile batteries are programmed to allow certain transponder codes (military transponders also have an encrypted code – IFF) and to engage everything else. They can only identify friendly forces. They have to assume that everything else is possible hostile. There was a command/control military 747 orbiting above DC when all the action was taking place. Im in the miltary. Im an Air Traffic Controller. Im also involved in the training of special forces to carry out forward air controlling in theater. 9/11 was an inside job.

In the first revolution only 30% of American public participated to win our freedom. 70% of the people out there are going to be couch potato quarter backs for our next revolution. I understand the WTCs were not up to code and it was cheaper to demolish them instead of dealing with the asbestoses but it’s just sick to think someone saw a 2-1 opportunity to get rid of the buildings and start an unpopular war.
It makes my blood boil to see that building burning completely engulfed in flames and to think someone had access and a plan to take down the WTCs in advance and to blamed it on other nations that were totally innocent (Afghanistan and Iraq may have needed to to be attacked for other reasons that may have been justifiable but hard to sell to the public so they embellished when they demolished the buildings that would have been impossible to permit the demolition in the middle of a densely populated town). I’m not defending the wars but if we are going to go to war we should know the real reasons and decide by voting to go to war for the real reasons, the people at the top may not be completely sick and know something we don’t know and think we would loose and advantage by putting it out in the open then the Russians may move in while we are debating if it’s a good idea. It’s really nation building and power plays we were never in danger 9/11 was so uncharacteristic of Afghanistan rebels it’s almost laughable if it wasn’t such a serious crime and the people responsible deserve justice.

Second, i have read all the replys and comments and think that could be an inside job, but, i just seen severals videos of the WTC 1 & 2 falling and notice that the first tower to fall, bend a little in the weak side making the structure collapse in that point (still collapse vertically). But, as you say, WTC 7 was not hit by any aircraft.
I was in USA 2 years ago, and i love the people there, but your gov…… Always plaiying to be the police of the world, using the lives of they own citizen to the gain of profits, that makes my really believe in the theory of the Inside Job; is a shame that many inoccent people must to suffer. The official story is so full of holes its laughable. The Beijing building is yet another shot ripping right through the official tinfoil theory.
The explanation of controlled demolition using planted cutter charges of thermate or similar fits the facts way much better.
That being said there is still one issue with the latter:
If there was a CONTROLLED demolition how could the CONTROL be kept even though there was the rather chaotic and unpredictable event of crashing jetliners (wtc 1&2 only) and spreading fire. Wouldnt there be a severe risk that the planted charges would go off more or less by themselves in the heat and chaos, resulting in an rather uncontrolled demolition without the nice symmetrical collapse patterns we see in all three buildings?
Can any1 who knows about controlled demolition and explosives provide an explanation to this. How could the control be maintained? Does thermate withstand the heat of the burning jetfuel and office inventories? Could the charges and the detonation control mechanism be protected from the heat?
If this can be answerd the last piece of doubt would fall off my mind.

WTC 7 was not simply on fire. It was also structurally damaged by debris from the collapse of the other buildings. There were reports of a 20 story hole in the side of the building, and a giant bulge on the other. The building was expected to fall and was not a surprise to anyone who had a first hand look at the damage.
Please don’t be taken in by this fraud. Alex Jones is the same guy who was reporting widespread anarchy and governmental collapse during Y2K. He reported nuclear power plants were shutting down and that Putin and China was about to start world war III.

Conspiracy theorists…..what a laugher you people are. WTC 7 fell because it was damaged AND it was on fire. The same reason that WTC 1 & 2 fell.
WTC 7 was damaged by the debris of the towers. A whole section of one of the corners of the building was demolished by the walls of the Towers when they fell. last time i checked I haven’t been able to find one other example or a skyscraper being on fire and having significant structural damage to do these imbicilic comparisons by people who have no idea what they are talking about.
This partially completed building in Beijing burned. Fine enough. There are hundreds of other building around the globe which have burned and not fallen.
In the case of all three WTC buildings that fell on 9/11/01 they burned AND were damaged structurally. If you can’t make that distinction, if you can’t understand the distinction why are you commenting?

The reality is, until action is taken these NIST and other freaks are going to keep spouting double-speaking propaganda. People can talk all they want, so long as nothing comes about it. The 911 Commission was all about talk. People in the armed forces, police and government who actually adhere to the US Constitution need to act and coordinate, because America is at the Tipping Point.
No defense based on “National Security” can be believed until a proper open and unbiased system has been created to determine the truth of such an excuse. This is JFK all over again, and people in government, in the armed forces and in the police forces need to coordinate and stop the authoritarian tyranny that is coming against The People.
The Milgram experiment showed that people will do terrible things to another human being if a ‘figure of authority’ insists on it. People in the police and armed forces need to reflect on that. For the record, it took 8 seconds from the time the east roofline began to sink to the time that the windows failed on the 33rd floor so the WTC 7 building did not collapse in 7 seconds. Of course, once the general collapse began the momentum of the falling mass ensured that the collapse would not take all that much longer than what would be expected in free-fall but there is nothing unusual about that. As for the Mandarin Oriental not collapsing, it could be due to the passive heat protection systems being used and the method of construction. If beams cannot expand by enough to get the support columns to buckle and fail the building will remain standing. That was not the case with WTC7, where a support column buckled and initiated a general collapse.
