“It’s pride…it’s a matter of pride,” Krapf said.
A new department rule mandates that all stickers and statements – union, cartoon and political – be stripped from lockers after several offensive and racist images showed up in the firehouse. But Krapf figured the red, white and blue was safe.
It seems he was wrong.
The chief came out and said ‘You have to remove your stickers,’ I said ‘No disrespect chief, but I’m not taking the flag off,’” Krapf recounted. He says the officer then asked him to leave.

Here in Albany the flag is seen as aggressive and offensive by some. A lanlord here actually told her tennants that they could not display the flag on their vehicles! She said people in their “diverse neighborhood” would find it offensive. Story here:

If you read the entire article you would see that the chief said “we wear the flag on our uniform”, which is also a violation of etiquette because the “internet” says it is reserved for the military, not for fireman. I was on flag detail for years in the military but I got out when we attacked innocent people with no declaration of war. Stickers are for children. The reason the flag is not to touch the ground is becuase it was carried into battle and so if it touched the ground it meant the person carrying it was dead.

2.Every military vehicle that displays it
3.Every government offial vehicle that displays it

I think what people need to realize is that this is not about making him take down the American flag from his locker. The policy is that NOTHING is to be put on the outside of the lockers, period. While I think it is dumb…..it is the policy, not anti-American or police state. The lockers do no belong to the men, they only use them while they are working for the city.

I think this is bs too… But the city does have a rite in this case its the cities locker as is the firehouse. I had worked for a very large city on the pd and it always bothered me that on our uniform sleeve we had the city flag and not the US flag. But its good he is standing his ground.

Your uniform should only have the city flag because you work for the citizens of that city not for the federal government of the U.S. You should have been proud that the city you worked for understood that city law supersedes the laws of the county, state and country. Though I do think it’s a violation of the first amendment, how ever the locker is city property not that of the individual that happens to be using it at any given time.

Honestly, Its hard to explan firefighter culture to anyone not on the job. Im sorry its that way, there are alot of dedicated people who are patriots on the job.The sticker issue, I see both sides for those posting. But from a firefighters take on the job. listen I posted above why the city is doing what they are doing.But for him, he is just being patriotic plan and simple. Inside the firehouse , the life is hard to explain. that locker area is your private personal , a home away from home only for you. Its the only thing that is exclusive to you. YOu become attached to it .
I have had the same one for 18 yrs. I look back into it and see pictures and stickers that take me back to a time when i started on the job. The lockers give or are a reflection of the occupier. Thanks for reading.
