I do not agree with drug testing for people who recieve unemployment. They worked for this money and it is a short term program. What I would like to see is required drug testing for anybody receiving welfare. Now these people are the drains of society.

This initiative is actually good and about time they brought it in. The ammount of dole bludges I know of that spend there incom on drugs is beyond what most would expect.
You see the thing is, dole bludges are useally unmotivated, lazy people who don't grasp the concept of achievement like most people. They don't spend most of their dole on neccessities, most is to secure the drugs that they liv off. Because they are involved in this scene and people, they are useally involved in crime also, as they don't work they have lots of time, and also need more income as drugs is a costly thing. So getting the people off the dole who shouldn't be on it will change allot of these people; the need to get a job will motivate them and when eventually getting a job will be beneficial to there morality and psycological status and reduce crime and make a stronger economy.

The down side is allot of clean people are going to feel an invasion of privacy and being stood over with a draconian initiative.

Personally, I would veto the idea and spend more resources spying on suspects of abusing the system.

It's understandable that taxpayer's don't want "their" money going to anything but the bare necessities. They'll overlook this incremental step to make the usually unavoidable state unemployment to move from a common and unfortunate situation to something immoral and criminal.
"Conservatives" love misery; unemployed and broke isn't bad enough - those bums should feel and look miserable at all times. May as well include prohibiting cigarettes, beer, candy bars, chewing gum, ketchup, watching TV and basically anything except a bowl of gruel on a semi-regular basis.
Add mandatory wake up and bed times and require walking the streets 8 hours a day looking for a job that either isn't there or you can't get. Basically school detention / being grounded for adults. And if that's not strict enough, or if they don't show the proper amount of humility and shame, there's ALWAYS enough money to put them in jail. That will teach people not to be unemployed in a country that exposed all it's labor jobs and has a terrible education system!
All well and good until the usual voting blocks of the old loose their their pensions and Social Security and the "Christians" are unemployed too. THEN they'll cry about having the Government and Police on THEIR backs, and what they do with the money THEY paid in taxes to cover unemployment should be their business how they spend it when receiving it back.
What goes around comes around.

Personally, I have nothing against a drug screen to collect unemployment...having to pay for it out of my own pocket, however, is where I draw the line. I have held my fair share of shitty "McJobs"...I've done my time at the bottom the ladder...I paid my way though school, and now I enjoy sitting behind a desk. That fact does not entitle me to anything more than anyone else, it is merely representative of how I made my life, not how you, or anyone else made theirs...but being as it was my way, I have little else to compare to it, and thus view the complete lack of implementation on the "Welfare" system as just sad.
I grew up in a very poor southern state (which will remain anonymous), and watched countless times as "poor" families attained "status" clothing, superior performance cars (for their "family"), and received the best medical care available (dental, vision, or elective surgery) all while living in homes subsidized by the government and while never maintaining a reportable job...and I asked myself repeatedly; "how can they do this?".
The answer, surprisingly enough, was a simple one...The government allows it to happen.
Until this country is either overrun with poverty and strife, or taken over by another country (most likely without ever firing a shot)...or we the People decide we have been fucked over enough and decide to change things (ala V for Vendetta style)...we will suffer countless more indignities and ruthless atrocities...until we change how (and who) things are done.
