Florida Voters Approve “Saggy Pants” Law

RIVIERA BEACH — Pull’em up or pay up! That’s the order voters gave tonight by overwhelmingly approving Mayor Thomas Masters “saggy pants” law.
“I am thankful to the people who came out and voted their conscience and defined what is indecent in our city,” said Masters after hearing the measure won 72 percent of the vote.
Earlier in the day, Masters feared the saggy pants law was going down in defeat based upon an informal exit poll. But that changed as more voters went to the polls, he said.

Masters believes Riviera Beach is the first large city to pass a saggy pants law through an election. Others have been approved by ordinance through a board vote.
Riviera Beach joins the city of Opa-Locka, the Atlanta school district and several small southern towns with “pull up your pants” laws.
Under the new law, anyone with droopy pants that show skin or underwear faces legal action. The first offense carries a $150 fine or community service. A second infraction carries a $300 fine or more community service.
Habitual violators could face up to 60 days in jail. The jail provision produced a last-minute backlash to the ordinance. But the law was popular among elderly voters who apparently turned out at the polls.

And to think we one had vice laws in this country. That was bad enough, but sometimes those kids show off their underpants when they wear their pants “like that”. In a way, i agree with them, but in another, I completely disagree! We have enough laws on the books as it is. Besides, shouldn’t that be the job of the PARENTS to decide what’s decent for their kids and what’s not?

If you think this is a crazy idea for a law, what about the laws they are thinking about making that designate certain areas a “Swear/dirty language free zone”? These laws are on par with one another and is a violation of rights. ACL something should not be illegal because it “looks totally stupid”, that argument is “totally stupid”. Clothes are made, yes, to wear on your body, but it is against the constitution to tell people how to wear clothes on their body. This is a matter of freedom of expression, and individuality. If all individuality is lost the only difference between two people will be whether they are alive or dead. Think about that.

I don’t agree with legislation that infringes on personal liberties as to what people can wear.
Now personally , I think it’s tacky to dress with your pants hanging down showing your underwear
but I think they have the right to do it.
I wonder if most of the people that voted for this legislation realize that a woman in a Bikini is actually nothing more than a woman walking around in her underwear ? Personally I like seeing women in bikinis but the point is it’s just as revealing and in some cases even more revealing than
panties and a bra. Whats the difference?
This is just silly to prosecute people based on the way they wear their clothes.

Well, I work at a public school and the degenerates have this fetish of dropping their pants letting everything hang-over and wear a long shirt with loose buttons. These queer-fetish fools say they get a rush when the girls (or guys) give them “above” the belt gazes. It is a filthy minded, exhibitionist dream world. No doubt your sons and daughters see it everyday at school. I personally am sick of it. Anyone supporting it is either stupid or you secretly like it. I am not going to let the loose morals of deliquent, PARENTS of these degenerate off-spring slime-balls determine the morals around our public school. Officials at the school turn the other way because that would mean demerits–that would mean–detentions or days off school–that would mean bad reports to the STATE or students expelled. And of course that would mean STATE FUNDS LOST! OH MY!! If you think this has to do with personal liberties, this filth has infected you also. We are being choked by our so-called personal liberties. These measures/legislation/laws all serve to further strip away each and every one of our rights year by year in the name of Globalization/One world government. The moment we have come so far as to let those in control of our government tell the people how to talk and how to dress is the moment we cease being America, and that ladies and gentlemen is where we are at now. I say dress how you please, wear the clothes the way you want to and if you are harrassed because of it take it to court, if need be the supreme court as it is a violation of constitution and your rights. We need some higher court such as the supreme court to tell these people that laws like this are wrought with not only racism but are unconstitutional. I am white, but I abhor racism or prejudism of anykind and especially those who support and perpetuate it. Let’s face it this law is directed at African Americans as the saggy pants is part of the hip hop culture and is just one more way for individuals that are part of that culture to express oneself. Whether this expression of wearing ones pants is fashionably correct or not makes no difference, it is a part of expressing one’s individuality. Where are all the African American civil rights leaders on this one? They need to speak out against this kind of prejudice/racism. This is just one more law that will further increase the suffering of the average African American. Not to mention some clothing companies make hip hop pants that have a false boxer/underwear top that makes it look like the pants are sagging when they really are not. This is insanity here, and I can not believe there are some here (like ACL) who support these kinds of prejudiced laws.

First off you obviously believe that people should not have certain rights/liberties hence the “we are being choked by our so called personal liberties” part of your tirade that has hints of racism/hate. It is not up to anyone to dictate what rights one should or should not have, we are born with them. It is also not up to anyone what is decided as “filthy” as you put it. Whether it is wearing a hat sideways, backwards, or pants lower than the wasteline as long as all body parts are covered by some form of clothes, and are not see through then it is not indecent or nudity. If you think that this is what infected students where are you on women wearing spandex that show hints of their vaginal genitalia, shorts so short and tight it leaves nothing to the imagination? This was so common place in high school the male students virtually walked around with permanent hard ons. The saggy pants has been around in the hip hop culture for a long while and was common place in my high school and you know what? It was never an issue, no what affected the students the most was teenage women who dressed as the way I already described. Whether it was other teenage girls being jealous of competition or envious of what other girls in their high school were endowed with. Whether it was males unable to concentrate as they are walking around with the already mentioned affliction, this is what affected the school more than anything. People wearing baggy pants, or pants sagging was the least of the high schools problems and never ever posed an issue that needed to be dealt with. Yet with all these problems I mentioned in my high school I never once said women should not be able to wear their clothes the way they want to. If they want to leave nothing to the imagination, fine it is their choice.
So no if you are against this law and telling others how to live, how to dress, how to wear their clothes, and how they can or can not express themselves you are not infected and immoral. I would say after reading your entire post that you have been infected with the racism and hate bug. I would expect your kind of argument from a religious bigot such as Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson who both argued that “people like the gays, and abortionists are to blame for 9/11″. You are seriously infected and consumed with prejudiced and hate.

Wow! I am sure the ratio of the classes of people that turned out to vote on that measure was pretty believable.
I am appalled however, at the attitudes of some of these people that comment on such senseless matters.
Individual, self-expression is what part of our lives is based upon. We must be able to express ourselves to get our points and opinions and feelings out through a social outlet otherwise we would die.
This example here is definitely one that is a synopsis or prelude of more to come to condemn our constitutional rights as FREE PEOPLE.
You don’t hear people complaining about what other people wear and how they wear it. No offense but look at the way prostitutes wear clothing. Extremely skimpy, yet you don’t hear anyone complaining about it. Or people in general that may wear skimpy clothing.

You seem to be the one thats confused. If the kids are exposing themselves then there is already laws in place to deal with that. Exposing yourself ( genitalia ) in public is illegal. However, legislation determining that a person cant wear clothes a certain way is against ” Personal Liberties” If the schools don’t want kids wearing their clothes this way then they have the ability to address that in the acceptable dress code. Making a law for it in general is ludicrous. There are plenty of laws on the books and avenues that people can explore to deal with the problem, without making it criminal. Redefining what constitutes exposing ones-self in public to include buttocks etc is the answer. However if they’re only showing underwear then hows that any different from women walking around in Bikinis ? Or how’s it different for men wearing Speedos etc… If you don’t think that making a persons clothing choice when it doesnt include whats already defined as exposing the parts to be unacceptable criminal is infringing on personal liberties then as I said before you are the one thats confused.

I agree, which is a point of one of my sayings which is “If individuality is lost then the only difference between two people will be, whether they are alive or dead” Individuality is not only a part of life, it is essential to being human. Individuality and the freedom to express it should always remain undebatable, if you argue against individuality then you argue against everything that made America great, and the principles of those who founded our country. The reason this got the 72% vote was because it smelled of racism, because the majority of the people that do this as a style are black. What about the plumber or the person who just doesn’t have a belt, will they be charged with a crime. This will be used to abuse people period.
The mayor is black also, but he is an activist preacher that became mayor (that should tell alot). The problem with having preachers and/or activist legislate morality or clothing or anything that deals with your personal choice, is that he’s thinking that controlling a fad will change behaviour of children. It doesn’t, what he did is gave the police another reason to mess with minority children. If you look at his biography he has done alot against the Klan and for children and such, but I believe he is naive in thinking that this won’t be used to bend the spirit of the law.

In the summer I see women and men wearing anything from bikini bottums to speedos and there is not a beach around here period. Some people here that are arguing for this retarded law that smacks of racism and prejudism seem to be over consumed with hate. It looks like the Jerry Falwells of the world are having an affect on society. How can one claim to be moral and religious yet can not see that they are preaching hate of the worst kind? Women with low-ride or low-cut jeans/shorts will skate no problem without hesitation amongst the law makers. I am not confusing the catholic church with the christian, I am saying those who argue that wearing the pants below the waistline is wrong and indecent of forcing their beliefs on others and compared it to the inquisitions because obviously the lesson was not learnt because here we are down the road and yet religious people are still trying to force their views on others who do not agree. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” The idea is to keep religious rhetoric from being part of the government or part of laws, because if that were to happen then we would have the opposite of freedom here. Yes you are free to be religious, but the people also are free from having religion forced on them. It makes no difference if those who drafted the constitution were religious or not.

There is a difference between moral laws and religious laws. Religious laws would be the kind of laws the Catholic Church had in the dark ages. If you said there was another way to heaven than what they taught then they would tourcher you and/or kill you. We always have had moral laws, like laws against murder, stealing, adultery, homosexuality, rape, incest, and polygamy.

I do not agree with the general hip-hopper either, but being in the public limelight tends to show the extremity in different lifestyles. I would not dress like that nor do I approve of the songs most of them sing because they instill violence throughout them as a whole, yet when on a beach, I wear less than even most women do and yet that is considered to be glamour in my world. How strange the differences of acceptance of things that in some senses could be very similar. Of course on the street, I have to cover up more than the average woman also or else I just attract too much attention. All in all, I do believe that when in certain areas, there should be an accepted dress code. I just hope that if my panties shows through or from under my skirt that I am not arrested in that town.
Your Bible statement is a good question, something to ponder on. Just realize that there are extremes when involving anything. The Bible could be too restrictive while being too unrestrictive could lead to such things as low-rider clothing that could fall off at times without a second thought of concerned dignity from the wearer of it.

It is interesting that some get involved in religion to be moral or what have you and then after years and years of the constant drilling they believe that those who are not religious are not moral and they must do something about it (like force their religion down other people’s throats). When will the religious learn that being moral is not synonymous with being religious, never was.
If anything a good amount of people who seek out religion are those who were immoral wanting to learn to be moral, but all this has done is populated religions with a lot of immoral people (hence the molestations of boys and girls you hear, and don’t hear about, amongst other things like homicides etc..). It is often a the last refuge for the criminal as well, so much so that it is more likely a convict will receive parole if he claims to be “born again” and has learned his lesson. I am not saying religion is bad, some people need something to believe in. However when you spend years being taught religion is the only moral way of life, those who are teaching you this have done you a great disservice. You end up believing only religious people are moral, and some get wrapped up in their own delusions like sex is evil and everybody but the church-goer are fantasizing non-stop 24/7 about orgies while and wearing their pants below the waistline is some secret code that says “you are willing and able to have any kind of sex at a moments notice”, which hints at some kind of developing psychosis.
When people spend their lives being repressed, eventually they will see those around them (non-repressed peers) and see that these people are free and some *gasps* may have slept with more than 1 person in a month, or watch horror movies whatever the case may be. Sooner or later they start noticing these things, and focus in on them, eventually they become envious/jealous (consciously or subconsciously) that these people can live their life as they please seemingly without consequence. So they in turn want to oppress and repress those people as well, rather than evaluate their own lives,religion, and belief systems. They are in the right and everyone else is wrong (in their own minds at this point). Like I said not all religious people are like this, but the good majority of those I have met personally are (and I dont mean the casual religious here, I mean the weekly church go’er). You may agree or disagree, that is fine. I am only speaking on behalf of my experiences here. What really is not up for debate though is if you are raising a child. When you repress and oppress children the result later will be that they grow up to be the exact opposite that you intended.
Then when this happens instead of re-evaluate your parental abilities you will blame their peers and their lack of morals for how your child ended up. This is more often than not the case, and yes you are to blame. If your child grows up to resent you, and rebels against you it was because you lacked the ability to raise a child. When your child sleeps with multiple people in a week or a month once again this reflects upon the oppression and repression you put that child through. Do not blame society for your lack of ability, I have seen this too often and it always disgusts me. The lesson is you can not raise a child through oppressive and repressive force (physical/mental) or you will only get the exact opposite of what you intended. Marklar you put it pretty well.

It’s not their fault totally.
I have been to ranger barracks in Fort Lewis WA many times. There is large writing on the walls glorifying rape and murder, and the soldiers are forced to sing cadences making fun of bashing babies brains if and shooting up school yards. That’s because our government is actively trying to seed a crop of demoralized stormtrooper who never question orders, and don’t think for themselves or study politics.

My daughter, used to be a fine Christian, then she fell away and hates, “as some of these do,” religion as they keep saying, as a result, I cracked down on her and made her live right at least while under my roof, her favorite phrase was, “I don’t see what that hurts, or is wrong with it,” when I speak to her on preserving the consanguinity of our blood line, on not smokling, not because the cigarret nazis say so, but because it is a useless expensive and destrucctive habit, on the way she dressed and OH NO, the music she listened to and not wearing whorish clothes, I also regularily battled the antiAmerican agenda at her public school.
My son, same same, I don’t let him wear that silly garbage, my step son I make pull his crappin pants up because his dad is too dumb, I don’t allow my son to listen to hip hop, rap or any music I find that has degenerate or death cult/satanic lyrics.
My daughter hated living with me, she didn’t believe all the things I taught her about the U.N and the rest that is coming, but now she understands and is appreciative, we are not supposed to be our kids friends, we are to be their teachers, to judge them righteousely, that means, teaching them right from wrong,”woe to he that does not judge the fatherless,” the scriptures teaches this because if someone does not have one or more parents to guide them, we are to take up the banner and instruct them, because when we don’t, they fall into the ways of the world and in that ba’alzubub is the lord of the world, that is evil.

Gabriel, I consider you my friend though we have never met, I pray one day we do, perhaps fight together!
But on this, I can see where some culd see this as an innocent “trend,” I do not, we will just have to agree to disagree on that.
I was and am a groundpounder myself, I was taught and now teach the same, to kill, correct fighting methods such as they gave me at Benning and Campbell, to kick brains out, rear sentry take downs that isolate the neck and I often humm and still sings the crazy cadences we sang, only when the company pastor was not present, I love it all, because peace come from the ballance of power, not the absence of resistance.
Of course, I was a lean mean soldier of the 80s and I like to think our generation was the best, we were trained to kill, yet we exorcised good character and professionalism, I carry the Army traing with me through my life and try to impart it upon those I am now entrusted to teach, I have been teaching martial arts in the traitional way for many years and hard core police and miltary tactics the last few, I like to think I am on the cutting edge literaly, I taech things I know some cringe at and may think I am too extreme, but like my daughter, I know that just as I came to appreciate what I was given, so will they!
One of my trainee instructors whom I had much faith in has become a policeman and contrary to my best efforts to correctly instruct him not to become part to the new posture they have adopted in this police state,”I used to work for the law as an extradition officer amoungst other things,” he is adopting their way, which includes foregoing the hand to hand control techniques for reliance on the taser, I am saddened.

Fred Jarrell. I must be difficult being a father. I never have been. Your point really got me thinking. There is a thin line between freedom, and right and wrong. Truly, only in Christ can we be free.
Teenagers, and just people in general, tend to be rebellious when they are forbidden to do things, or decide for themselves. It seems to me, when your raising kids, there is probably only so much you can do to deter them from things. You can talk to them, reason, show examples, but in the end, if they really want something, they will get it, unless we chain them up.
I think the saggy pants thing is relatively harmless. Forbidding it only further gives dictatorial authority to the ever encroaching police state.
Our military used to be good. But for decades it has been slowly incrementalized to be and teach more and more progressive evil. It is NO ACCIDENT or coincidence that the Pentagon is shaped like a pentagram. Just another occult inside joke, demonstrating their authority.

When I worked for the ASherriff in Carbon Co. I used to travel through Colorado alot, picking up and delivoring prioners, I like the Glenwood area and the pass sounth of Grand Juction. once, after leaving Aspen, my partnerr and I decided to take the pass on the back side of Aspen Instaed of going around Denver to Colorado Springs, that was a hairy dangerous trip, the sign, if I recall said 2 mph and that was no joke, crazy, one gunsel crosses the line there and you’d never be seen again falling off that cliff. Simple loop hole. Sew your boxers with a stitch or two to the inside of your pants pocket and wear another pair of boxers under that. This technically turns your exposed boxers into part of your pants, and the law can’t touch you.
