For prosecution of Bush war crimes, planning begins

On Saturday morning in Andover, Massachusetts, as about 120 activists, adademics, constitutional scholars, public officials and legal experts gathered in the Wyndham hotel, the building suddenly went dark.
Electricity had been cut off just prior to the start of a landmark war crimes conference, the goal of which was to plan the prosecution of Bush Administration officials. The first of its kind conference, already featuring a laundry-list of notable speakers, was suddenly in flux … If only for a few moments.
“We were already so effective, the government tried to shut us down,” said conference organizer Lawrence Velvel, dean of the Massachusetts School of Law at Andover, in an interview with RAW STORY.

“Of course, when I said that at the conference opener, the power had been restored. I was only joking,” said Velvel with a slightly nervous laugh. “A fuse box fried, but the local electric company fixed it before we even began.”
The ‘Bush war crimes conference,’ according to its organizers, is a “throwback to the framers of the constitution,” which aims to establish “necessary organizational structures” to pursue those guilty of war crimes “to the ends of the Earth.”
“The framers didn’t trust the federal government either,” said Velvel. “And oddly enough, over the years and decades, a strong distrust of government was once a Republican position. It was, at least, in theory. And then Bush came along and there’s this, well, my country, love it or leave it in the GOP … But now, you have people on the other side of the spectrum taking that very position.
“This is a conservative idea, to hold conferences and then take action to take power. Liberalism has been made fun of as mere self expression. I was very impressed by the desire in this group to take action.”
“This is not a campaign event,” said Professor Christopher Pyle of Mt. Holyoke College, during his speech to the conference. “It is a conference about how to restore governmental accountability in the wake of a criminal administration. It addresses the most serious crisis in our nation’s history — the claim that the president and his secret agents can get away with torture, kidnapping, and even manslaughter.”
The two day affair was divided in half: Speakers on Saturday, and planning on Sunday.
Chief among the academics, legal experts and whistle-blowers speaking in Andover was Vincent Bugliosi, best known for successfully prosecuting Charles Manson and penning the subsequent novel, Helter Skelter. His new book, The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder, is currently available at retail.

# Phillippe Sands, Professor of Law and Director of the Centre of International Courts and Tribunals at University College, London. He is the author of “Torture Team: Rumsfeld’s Memo and the Betrayal of American Values” (Penguin/Palgrave Macmillan), among other works.
# Jordan Paust, Professor of Law at the University of Houston and author of “Beyond The Law.”
# Ann Wright, a former U.S. Army colonel and U.S. Foreign Service official who holds a State Department Award for Heroism and who taught the Geneva Conventions and the Law of Land Warfare at the Special Warfare Center at Ft. Bragg, N.C. She is the coauthor of “Dissent: Voices of Conscience.”
# Peter Weiss, Vice President of the Center For Constitutional Rights, which was recently involved with war crimes complaints filed in Germany and France against former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and others.
# Benjamin Davis, Associate Professor at the University of Toledo College of Law and former American Legal Counsel for the Secretariat of the International Court of Arbitration.
# David Lindorff, journalist and co-author with Barbara Olshansky of “The Case for Impeachment: Legal Arguments for Removing President George W. Bush from Office”(St. Martin’s Press).
# Colleen Costello of Human Rights USA.
# Christopher Pyle, a professor at Mt. Holyoke and author of several books on international matters
“We need to revers[e] a fifty-year trend towards unaccountable secret government, which can commit crimes with impunity,” said Pyle in a release. “‘Sending a clear signal to future Cabinet-level officials that ours is still a government under law, and that they had better obey the criminal law, no matter what their president and his legal lackeys say,’ is a matter of overwhelming importance.”
While video of the conference was broadcast live via UStream.tv, the footage is currently unavailable on the Internet.
Conference organizers told RAW STORY that a series of DVD’s will be offered for sale at cost to interested parties. Online footage of the conference will also be made available Friday, Sept. 19, at a Web site address yet to be announced.
“Later this week we will establish a central committee which will decide which of the many ideas we came up with are practical, and we will begin asking people to undertake particular actions,” said Velvel. “Once those first steps are carried out, as I hope it will be, that will be the first major accomplishment of this conference.”
The plans, which will be released in a media advisory later this week, considered:
# What international and domestic crimes were committed, which facts show crimes under which laws, and what punishments are possible.
# Which high level Executive officials — and Federal judges and legislators as well, if any — are chargeable with crimes.
# Which international tribunals, foreign tribunals and domestic tribunals (if any) can be used and how to begin cases and/or obtain prosecutions before them.
# The possibility of establishing a Chief Prosecutor’s Office such as the one at Nuremburg.
# An examination of cases already brought and their outcomes.
# Creating an umbrella Coordinating Committee with representatives from the increasing number of organizations involved in war crimes cases.
# Creating a Center to keep track of and organize compilations of relevant briefs, articles, books, opinions, and facts, etc., on war crimes and prosecutions of war criminals.
Velvel told RAW STORY that several groups have been established to force some universities to hold hearings on whether faculty members should have their jobs terminated for participating in Bush Administration crimes.
“John Yoo, the author of the infamous ‘torture memo’ who now works at Berkeley, comes quickly to mind,” he added.
“The consensus of attendees is President Bush’s attack on Iraq is a violation of the Charter of the United Nations and that he is culpable for this as well as for torture and abuse of war prisoners held by the U.S. military and the CIA,” stated a media advisory.
Other conference cell groups plan to raise up groundswells of support for district attorney candidates who would be willing to investigate or prosecute Bush Administration crimes. Conference attendees also plan to begin seeking disbarment proceedings against lawyers who assisted the administration in war crimes.
Additional measures, details of which were not immediately forthcoming, include utilizing foreign and International courts, and focused actions on state and local levels.
“The idea of using foreign and International courts is not so dissimilar to the time [Donald] Rumsfeld had to flee France to avoid arrest on war crimes charges,” said Velvel. “Of course, that was a foreign court, and he just went into Germany and was fine. We were talking more about going to a true International court.”
The Bush war crimes conference is in the tradition of Justice Robert H. Jackson, who prosecuted war criminals after World War II, writes Sherwood Ross.
“The common sense of mankind demands that law shall not stop with the punishment of petty crimes by little people,” said Justice Jackson. “It must also reach men who possess themselves of great power and make deliberate and concerted use of it to set in motion evils which leave no home in the world untouched.”
“Obviously, we want to go beyond self expression,” concluded Velvel.

Well Bone Smoker, I hate to say it, but even if a judge says “hang ‘em all”. they’ll have to do it in effigy. These rats would be exiled to their golden retreats faster than you could say “presidential pardon”. which is probably what McCain would do next year anyway. IMO, the only way that America can begin to recover is to try this administration and it’s cohorts for the crimes that they have clearly committed.
This nation can not vanquish the truth and forever divide We The people using propaganda double talk aimed at cutting the truth out of heart and soul of humanity.
We must all make choices and right about now they have us all over the barrel of having to give a pound of flesh or turn our backs on freedom. This is a very cruel crime in itself, especially to those that know better and that can see just how corrupt the system has become. Watching it all unfold is like living in a Freddie Kruger nightmare starring Jr.

LINE IN THE SAND
To all, I say LOVE is the true power and that the OATH taken by so many is a pledge out of care for what is good and right in this land we call America!
I myself do not wish for a fight and that I have called, emailed, pleaded, challenged to all concerned of their Responsibility and DUTY to the Oath for which they have pledged, from Media Police, Politicians, Soldiers (I am a Armorer), friends, family and all that are in positions to make a positive effect. Still the ones that are in positions of power will not do THE RIGHT THING or even the job we elected them to, by protecting our sovereign rights as citizens of this land & by promise of their oath to office,leaving us citizens with the last resort to ever come closer.
I am just a man that loves his country and sadly I must now start preparing to defend this land I care so much about; not from some invading Foreign force but my very own ELECTED GOVERNMENT. This is a fight NONE of us should want but to all that have taken the Oath, REMEMBER this!!
The reality we have now is that of A CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER of a domestic enemy within our ranks that MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AT ALL COST.

And in conclusion I ask nothing less of all to uphold their DUTY.

All right. Looking at things logically in the “war” for our minds, it seems that we are not growing fast enough in equivalent to “them” coming out with all these laws, rules, regulations, and upscaled brutality. There are still so many people to “waken up”, but I see there is one thing that will get the people to muster together to the point of believing people like this group who bravely met and had their “down with the regime” conference.
Most people say here and some have even called into Alex Jones’ radio show to say that they are having such a hard time getting others to believe the “truth” stories. Yes, many have “awakened”, but percentage-wise, it is small. There is only one thing that will snap all the nation’s people to finally “get it”, where people who are like this brave group and those handing out “truth” DVD’s or flyers, will be able to be listened to almost immediately. That one thing might happen in the next 50 days or maybe an additional 80 days or so. It was said here by others and has been spoken about for years, starting from the Clinton era before he left office.
The only thing that will snap the entire country into “awakefulness” or realization of the “truth”, is to have Marshal Law, to stop either the presidential election somehow or to stop the transfer of power over to the president elect. All other Constitutional laws have been broken by this regime and the people have accepted it, but it seems that they want to have the Constitutional election. So what we need is to have that Marshal Law which seems to be the only thing that the people are saying that they will accept for stopping an election by the Constitution.
If the election or transition of power is done, then I would tend to believe that we really are in trouble because no one would transfer power, which technically is the same thing as giving oneself up to the authorities for crimes committed, unless that person(s) was assured of a safe haven and if a safe haven is available, that means that whomever is taking over the power position would be condoning all crimes committed and therefore would be just as bad as this regime. That allowance of the transfer of power would then obviously be done for a facade, to help fool the people, making it look like “CHANGE” actually is happening, when it would not be.
MARSHAL LAW (or the stoppage of the presidential CHANGEover) IS OUR SAVIOR that will gather the people together in one fell swoop that is not happening now,

Soon Bush will have the Dictatorship that he has always wanted and America will be knee deep in Martial Law. This is what they have been planning for this country for more than one hundred years. The beginning of the downfall of this once great nation began when the Federal Reserve Act was signed into law during Christmas break on the night of December 23, 1913.
Since then there has been an ever gradual taking over of this country and it is now in it’s FINAL THROES of it’s existence as a free Constitutional Republic.
There is some good news in all of this though, there is some MASSIVE fighting between these factions of the New World Order and they are in a continual state of disagreement and disarray and this will eventually cause them to make a SEVERE blunder that we MUST, I REPEAT, MUST capitalize on. Now, prosecution of international war crimes requires international law with an international ruling body does it not? It needs an enforcement arm and the only way to enforce international law unto a nation is by creating international bodies that are superior to national ones. I support Bush’s prosecution but it seems to me that if you support international law then you are lending support to one world government.

We need more people like Bugliosi. Perhaps he and the others who are attempting to bring charges against the Bush Administration can use the “rogue” countries and the Global Court to an advantage. Use the UNs own laws against them. If countries like Russia, the Central and South American countries, Arab countries, etc, go to the Tribunal Court and demand Bush and his evil cohorts be brought to justice…perhaps we can get somewhere. Those of you who are in those “rogue” countries can begin contacting your governments. Maybe we Americans can convince Bugliosi and Cindy Sheehan to contact Chevez and Daniel Ortega. They’d love nothing more than to see Bush be brought to justice.

You are right, the problem has been brewed out of centralized banking and pushed along by the Rothschilds and Rockerfellers.
But, Bush handed out heads to the Internationalists on a silver platter.
All the new laws pushed by this administration are well past the embryonic stage where the parasite is much better attached and fattening itself before it emerges fully fledged.
Currently, all our institutions have been hijacked from within, as the pods are bing shipped by sea, air, rail and roads, in a manner/metaphore similar to Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. The big problem is, our leaders are the early arrivals and are serving to fulfill the nightmare of annihilating this country , to make way for the New World Order. We are full Trotskey all the way now and the chaos is actually feeding the process.
I do not want to see it come down to physical violence and blood shed, ever, and I think the right approach is to demand that charges be filed, heard and tried in accordance with the law. The American people must demand this and they must be heard.
I do not support the notions of a violent revolution, but I whole heartedly support an awareness revolution as we are now seeing. With a little more awareness and momentum, I think this can still happen, but we have to get more people on the same page. The only good thing about the high fuel prices recently and the banking crisis, it that it’s making the average person more critical in their thinking and awareness to what the underlying problems actually are and now is an especially good time to be able to capture their attention on these matters.

Brainfreeeeze, I am not personally opposed to a United Humanity. I am all for it. What is important I think is how we go about reaching this pinnacle. The world we all inhabit is changing constantly. Every day the world is of a new order or configuration. Let us imagine for a moment the possibility that an organized power does exist that has of its agenda the consolidation of many nations into one nation. This seems to me to be a reasonable proposition. Perhaps what is truly at the heart of the issue is some of humanities fear of change and the misconception that some may have to experience the atrocity and terror that is felt around the Earth each second of each day. When it comes to governance, it seems that a government by the people, for the people, ought to be, the only solution. It is my inclination that the architects of this nation envisioned a place where all who come in peace are welcome, and perhaps some who do not, so as we may offer it to them. The catalyst for most conflict, in my opinion, has been religion and resources. I have attempted to counter this with humility and spirituality. Humility in the sense of being humble and thankful in who I am. Spirituality in the sense of seeking inner awareness and its outward reflections. Pertaining to resources, we have work left to do. We can be more efficient, more ingenuitive. We have all the parts, now we just need to construct the assembly. Lets all begin believing in our selves and create the world of our own potential. In order for America to turn the right corner, We The People must demand that our legal system and courts function and try the members of this administration for treason, war crimes, profiteering, trading with the enemy, terrorism and conspiring to overthrow this country, right down to the crooked books they fail to keep.
I think we could allow foreign help in the right form, but the ultimate act has to happen here at home.
Perhaps if only a few king pins from this administration were apprehended off shore, tried and sentenced by a foreign court it would be enough to make Americans finally realize how serious this problem is. Immagine if Jr. were apprehended off shore and tried for war crimes where the evidence was brought into the light of day. If people saw all this for real with just one or two of our war criminals and they were executed like Saddam, the entire world might finally wake up to just where we really are.
The rest would then be up to We The People, to take the case to heart through mainstream, with video of Walker falling through the gallows and having his head yanked off because the rope was a little too long. Even if it happened to Chenney or any of the others, it would be enough to break the barrier, even if it happened in a foreign country. This would have to be in conjuction with the evidence, along with documents and sworn testimony that could not be refuted by any sane person. To this end, maybe even Israel and India that store so much of our data, might actually be able to provide some of their data mined facts and files to back it all up.
I really believe if people saw this with the evidence that would have to be presented accurately, the game would be over very soon afterwards and all Americans would then stand.
It really sounds like a plan and what do we have to do to get the ball rolling on this?
