Foreign Press Reports “Marriott Marines Mystery”

Editor’s note: Online newspapers in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar are reporting unusual behavior by U.S. Marines at the Marriott in Islamabad prior to the attack on the hotel. As usual, this was not reported by the U.S. or European corporate media.
Was there a top secret operation of the US Marines going on inside the Marriott in Islamabad when it was attacked on Saturday evening? No one will confirm it but circumstantial evidence is in abundance.
A group of 30 US Marines, allegedly part of a security team for this week’s visit of Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, to Islamabad might have been the intended targets of the truck-bomb attack that killed 53 people in the hotel and injured up to 266 others.

Witnesses said the Marines unloaded a US embassy truckload of steel boxes and shifted them inside the Marriott Hotel on Wednesday, the same night that Admiral Mullen met Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and others in Islamabad. It was a high-security operation carried out with both the main gates of the hotel closed. Only the US Marines could approach the truck to unload the steel boxes and shift them inside the hotel.
Hotel sources said the boxes were not passed through the scanners installed at the entrance of the lobby and were shifted to the fourth and fifth floors of the Marriott.
Among several people who witnessed the whole thing were PPP parliamentarian Mumtaz Alam Gilani and his two friends, Sajjad Chaudhry, a PPP leader, and one Bashir Nadeem. The leading English language daily The News said Alam Gilani and his friends were leaving the Nadia restaurant of the Marriott at midnight when they found a white US embassy truck parked right in front of the hotel’s main entrance and almost a dozen well-built US Marines in fatigues unloading the steel boxes and taking them into the hotel without passing through the scanners. A third PPF friend of Gilani, who was waiting for the hotel’s main gates to open to get his car in, was informed on enquiry that the boxes were being shifted to the fourth and fifth floors.
Gilani was furious over having to wait and also over the security lapse he was witnessing. He protested but the Marines ignored him and the security men he approached were helpless.
Gilani was heard telling his friends that he would never visit the hotel again. He also threatened to raise the issue in parliament.

Watched the news this morning and saw video of the truck on fire but they never accually show the explosion and the camera “failing.” But Marines are unloading containers and they are not checked? this seems a little fishy to me. With alot going on in Pakistan right now and the constant “threat” of terror, looks like just more of the same from our governments involvement.

Here’s a benign explanation and most likely true.
Adm. Mullen, as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, needs communication gear that far exceeds what any hotel, in the US or Pakistan can provide. The US Marines were tasked with transporting such gear from the airport to the hotel and used Embassy vehicles to do that.
The gear, shipped in trunks, does not go through metal detectors because it is classified equipment. The Pakistani gov’t understood that and permitted it to be waived through scanning. This happens all the time, around the world.
Similar equipment requirements pertain to US Cabinet officers like the Sec. State or Sec. Def. Even more so when the President is traveling abroad.
The Pakistani parliamentarians are either being disingenuous or ignorant here.

#8 John Burgess seems to know how the Pakastanis handle such things. However, a scan for bomb materials would not be an infringement of protocal. If a real investigation takes place we will see if the floors in question had an extraordinary amount of damage.

They dress in Marine looking fatigue perform operations that would be international war crimes, but they don’t belong to a nation because they are private company and therefore can not be held accountable.
Be weary when politicians say they are going to remove the U.S troops from Iraq because that still does not account for the privately contracted mercenaries that are deployed in the country that do the worst of the attacks and keep the war ongoing. It’s common sense private mercenaries make money during war so what incentive do they have in winning a war, they would lose their jobs.

Who controls the foreign press? Saudi, Pakistan, Qatar?? Why should I, we, believe this anymore than we do our “domestic” canned press? I for one tend to believe since the over all picture looks like it is all dejavu when it comes to the headlines about Iran. Nothing stopping rogue elements from acting as Marines in order to provoke Pakistan into believing they need to confront the USA. There is no good in being a bully. Anyone know Marines in the border region of Pakistan and Afghanistan? Would be interested to know just what they do know about this if anything. Am not US citizen but am very very worried about all those things,too many coincidences….About the rights Bush gave him to declare martial law,i’m sure it will happen soon but for that he will need the support of allies so if something have to happen it will be probably in Europe where more and more the US policy is critized.Maybe a year or 2 ago,US told in an EU meeting that it was possible that a nuclear attack gonna hit Europe,especially Brussels (HQ for the EU and NATO).So as i living near Brussels…if i have to be killed by any kind of attacks i already blame all the US warmongers.But if this happen,trust me that you will not find allies in Europe but be prepared to face the entire world with only 1 goal…wipe the earth of all those stupid US citizens who think that “god” bless your country and you have the right to force the entire world to think like you.Some gvt will follow at start in europe but as the people here have more rights and more power than in US…trust me it’s time for US citizens to wake up and get rid of all those warmongers and jesus freaks!! The US marine mystery is not a mystery anymore. Today (SEPT 25) Geo New (the most famous) reported and showed the videos when the fire broke out in the hotel building. The frames clearly show blue colour fire on the fifth floor. The steel boxes that were shifted to the fourth and fifth floor were mysterious. Even on the fourth day tv reporters are still not allowed to go those two floors. the whole building caught fire from a single room. the pakistan media exposed the whole story of US marines and how the fire broke out. Thank God our media is much more critical of the government than that of India, US and other countries.
