And while the residents of the icy city of Missoula can stave off the -10C chill with thermals and fires, there may be no easy remedy for the wintry snap’s repercussions.
The temperature has shattered a 36-year record. Further into the heartlands of America, the city of Billings registered -12C on Sunday, breaking the 1959 barrier of -5C.
Closer to home, Austria is today seeing its earliest snowfall in history with 30 to 40 centimetres already predicted in the mountains.

Climatology is a complex field, and you can’t just say that it’s cold in Missoula this year, therefore there is no global warming. There are natural cycles in the earth’s temperature, and it looks like we’re on a temporary downswing, likely caused by the Pacific decadal oscillation (look it up). This does not refute global warming. In fact, one of the predictions of global warming is more extreme temperatures, both hot and cold. The Missoula data point actually supports the global warming theory.
If you look at historical data, you will notice that 1943 was a record high for the earth’s average temperature. After that the temperature dropped, and did not pass the 1943 figure until 1981. From there it continued its upward trend. We might be seeing the same sort of stall in global warming we did from 1943-1981, due to natural variability.
It is important to separate science from politics. Globabl warming is a fact, just like swine flu is a fact (it exists). It’s the government spin that we should be worried about. The debate should be about what an appropriate response is. The government is very opportunistic and likes to scare people, increase its power and give money to the bankers and corporations. I find it likely that this is happening with global warming, and this is what we should be talking about.

Global warming is so true its a shame Alex Jones can’t wrap his hand around it. Global weather patterns are consistently changing due to global warming. Our eco system is based around the warm water from the oceans/seas mixing with cold water from the global ice cap run off.
You’ll actually get a couple years of good rainfall and excessive snow for a while as the melting speeds up from the polar ice-caps. The problem is when they run out, your going to get tons of drouts. Its just a matter of time till the drouts start. UK will be one of the first areas to be hardest hit. Annual temperatures have gone nothing but up.

you need to wrap your head… around the right data! The hockey stick model for global temps is corrupted data. Try going to more than one spot for your data before you spout out your “theories”! There were higher temps before the little ice age than there are today hence the cooling we are seeing now. These are naturally occurring cycles due to more than just the ocean! 90% of the heat that the earth receives is from the sun. CO2 is good for plants is causes a global bloom in plant life which in turn causes the lush plant life to make more oxygen. Thus correcting itself and starting the next cycle! Wow! Some people here read one web site and think they have everything figured out and that they can solve the worlds problems! Wes, if you believe so strongly in global warming why don’t you and Al Gore jump on the moon space ship before it’s too late! Try a real website with real facts. Lou Dobbs is not a very smart person when it comes to climate change and that video interiew is sooo old.
Out of the last 12 years, 11 have been the warmest years in the past 100 years. That’s more that a little coindental. The top 11 warmest years in the last 100 year period(1909+) occuring in the past 12 years? The only year not fitting the trait was 1999.
If there really were natural fluxes in temperatures, you’d expect a year here or there in maybe the 10s, 20s or 30s or 40s or 50s or 60s or 70s or 80s to be at least one year in the top ten warmest years over the last 100 years. However, no. There is not 1 year from any of those decades. Where’s the global cooling/warming periods over the last century that anti-global warming conspiracists use to disprove global warming? It doesn’t exist within the last 100 years apparently.

I live in mt. and its cold already. Right when summer ended, winter was here. It’s supposed to warm up a little this week, in the high 40’s, maybe up to 50 in a few days. It’s 32 right now. Global warming? where? Climate change, yes. Warming, no. Can’t tax climate change though.

Man….this does not mean Global warming is a myth…….the whole solar system is experiencing global warming…it’s all cosmic cycles…while I do not believe the media and politicians when it says….”it’s all man’s fault” and a tax on carbon emissions is needed (wouldn’t do shit to slow carbon emissions as it is just a money grab from the taxpayers) but it is obvious what humanity is doing to this planet…..we are fucking it in the ass….hard….with no lube. That still needs to stop.
Here in Calgary it’s snowing like mad and -10C, but tomorrow it is going to be +12C…..and it was +30C a couple of weeks ago……the weather is going crazy…..hot cold hot cold……that to me is a bigger indicator of the hard time our planet is having.
We should still treat our home better if the world is heating up or not

The hardest thing for people to differentiate between is global warming and pollution.
It goes like this: The corporations that are responsible for the mass pollution which is indeed ruining parts of the lands and natural resources like water, are the ones telling us as people of the earth that we are responsible for global warming, which has nothing to do with pollution and everything to do with solar cycles of the sun and most likely the magnetic field shift we are currently experiencing.
By making us feel guilty about polluting (even though they are the ones polluting) we feel guilty and start diminishing our lifestyles by accepting the god of green into our hearts, while they continue polluting and blaming us. It will never end until people understand this paradox.

The atmospheric problems are not due to human exhalation of CO2. Look, they’ve been chemtrailing the skies for 10 years at least, and stepping it up in the last couple of years. They are TRYING to say that human breathing is corrupting the planet. If CO2 is increasing, it’s because of deforestation. God made this planet in perfect balance. If He did not mean “be fruitful and multiply”, He would not have commanded it and He would not have made a world that could not sustain the population. IF people stopped killing one another and instead used technology for the betterment of the human race, every life that now exists would be benefitted.
We have famine and starvation because the first thing warring factions do is burn each others’ crops and cut supply lines. It’s not the common people’s fault so much as it is the leaders commanding the people to fight. And who is behind the leaders? Satan. Don’t believe me? Where does evil originate? Who is running the planet into the ground and plotting to wipe us off it? THERE are your diabolical scum.

There are way more cows now adays than there ever were Buffalo. Buffalo herds were greatly exaggerated in their amount a lot by Native Rights Activists and Environmentalists as an example of how we need to be careful about not fishing to extinction, hunt to extinction, etc.
Native activists use it more as a ‘We were once soooo properous and proud! Now we are sooo poor, give us free money for education, taxes, social services, welfare, health-care, cheap beer, cheap cigarettes, subsidized food, subsidized taxes, subsidized housing’.

It’s cold here in Michigan. Colder than usual. Temps here are as cold as they should be at the end of November. My dogs look like they have a double winter coat, the squirrels are oddly quiet like they get in the dead of winter.

The only dumbass here is you if you really beleive global warming is bullshit and people who follow it are dumbasses. There are two points worthwhile reiterating, but, I suspect you can’t or won’t be able to understand these points judging by your previous post but I’ll give it a shot anyways giving you the benefit of the doubt.
(1) This discussion focuses on just a short time period – starting 1998 or later – covering at most 11 years. Even under conditions of anthropogenic global warming (which would contribute a temperature rise of about 0.2 ºC over this period) a flat period or even cooling trend over such a short time span is nothing special and has happened repeatedly before (see 1987-1996). That simply is due to the fact that short-term natural variability has a similar magnitude (i.e. ~0.2 ºC) and can thus compensate for the anthropogenic effects. Of course, the warming trend keeps going up whilst natural variability just oscillates irregularly up and down, so over longer periods the warming trend wins and natural variability cancels out.
(2) It is highly questionable whether this “pause” is even real. It does show up to some extent (no cooling, but reduced 10-year warming trend) in the Hadley Center data, but it does not show in the GISS data, see Figure 1. There, the past ten 10-year trends (i.e. 1990-1999, 1991-2000 and so on) have all been between 0.17 and 0.34 ºC per decade, close to or above the expected anthropogenic trend, with the most recent one (1999-2008) equal to 0.19 ºC per decade – just as predicted by IPCC as response to anthropogenic forcing.

Even with your own data, how do you account for the cooling trend over the last 5 yrs?
Now carry your data back to 1000 yrs. See if your hypothesis holds.

Proof positive it was the SUN all along and MAN had nothing to do with it.
The solar cycle was to produce SUN SPOTS 2 1/2 years ago and it DID NOT! No sunspots…….no heat. We may be going into a mini-ice age. The last time this happened 1400A.D. to 1850A.D. it changed the way everyone on the planet lived.
Take a look at http://www.spaceweather.com for a better picture of what is happening. For the last 30 months the sun has been BLANK of sun spots 80% of the time with very small sunspots the rest of the 20%. On any given day their should be 175 large sun spots producing the solar heat we need.
Get ready for record breaking cold and the end of the global warming brainwashing.

I was grocery shopping at the local street market on thursday and the woman next to me remarked on how warm it was and how this was global warming. She remarked that the weather was all over the place these days. I said, do you remember that it snowed last winter. She did not and yet it was the coldest winter for 20 years, according to the news at the time. Obviously more evidence of climate change.
Well maybe it was climate change and maybe it is caused by our CO2. But if policy is made from consensus of people who can’t even remember if it snowed in the coldest UK winter for 20 years then my money is on manipulation by the powers that be rather than any actual change in the climate.
