Gates Announces Plan to Make National Guard a Homeland “Operational Force”

Defense Secretary Robert Gates has ordered the Pentagon to conduct a “broad review” to determine if the military and the National Guard and Reserve can “adequately deal with domestic disasters,” including “a catastrophic attack on the country,” according to the Associated Press. Gates’ order falls on the heels of an earlier report released by the Commission on the National Guard and Reserves urging the Pentagon to “use the nation’s citizen soldiers to create an operational force that would be fully trained, equipped and ready to defend the nation.”

Gates and the Pentagon are obviously in the process of implementing the John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007. The act changed federal law so that the Governor of a state is no longer the sole commander in chief of their state’s National Guard during emergencies within the state, a direct violation of Article I, Section 10 and Clause 3 of the Constitution. As original envisioned by the founders, who rightfully feared standing armies, active and reserve military organizations were to be limited in size and scope and complemented by citizen-soldiers. The the John Warner Defense Authorization Act has finally put to rest the idea that these citizen-soldiers will not be federalized.
It can be argued that the Warner bill is simply a culmination of earlier piecemeal violations, including the Militia Act of 1792, the Insurrection Act of 1807, and in particular the Militia Act of 1903, the latter allowing for the creation of the National Guard of the United States as the primary organized reserve force for the U.S. armed forces. Gates is simply announcing a fiat accompli – the merging of the Department of Defense and the National Guard into one cohesive force that will be deployed domestically in violation of the Posse Comitatus Act which substantially limited the powers of the federal government to use the military for law enforcement. In the past, maintaining order during domestic disasters was the responsibility of local and state law enforcement, although the National Guard was on occasion called in cases of civil unrest.
Gates plan for a review of the National Guard’s role is especially troublesome in the wake of the Pentagon’s announcement in September that the 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team would be deployed domestically by Northcom beginning October 1.
“Beginning Oct. 1 for 12 months, the 1st BCT will be under the day-to-day control of U.S. Army North, the Army service component of Northern Command, as an on-call federal response force for natural or manmade emergencies and disasters, including terrorist attacks,” the Army Times reported on September 30. The battle-hardened brigade, straight out combat duty in Iraq, will engage in “specialty tasks” usually reserved for local law enforcement. In addition, the brigade will use “the first ever nonlethal package that the Army has fielded… designed to subdue unruly or dangerous individuals without killing them,” an especially chilling prospect in light of growing predictions of civil unrest as the economy worsens.

If the Pentagon plan is realized, the National Guard will receive training for “homeland defense and civil support missions, as opposed to the warfighting now consuming them.” The Associated Press admits Gates’ effort is designed to “integrate reservists into the modern day military and consider treating them on a more equal basis to the active duty troops.”
Arnold L. Punaro, former chairman of the commission, welcomed Gates’ recommendations and declared that improving the military’s role in homeland defense and enhancing the clout of the reserves “represent a historic break with the past.” It also represents a “historic break ” with the Constitution of the United States.
Gates and the Pentagon realize the United States does not face a serious external terrorist threat. Instead, it faces in the not too distant future a reaction on the part of the citizenry to the banker engineered deconstruction of the economy and the social and political chaos that will undoubtedly follow. The National Guard, along with the 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team and other military troops, will use the “nonlethal package… designed to subdue unruly or dangerous individuals” mentioned by the Army Times.
Gates’ “operational force that would be fully trained, equipped and ready to defend the nation” has nothing to do with Osama bin Laden and his cave-dwelling terrorists — or another Hurricane Katrina for that matter — but it has everything to do with preventing the people from rising up and taking back their country.

Federalize the guard for the comming riots when the dollar looses 70 to 80 percent of its value within a 6 months to 4 years from now. We will all be in poverty. Another article to incite.. but nothing to inspire. No matter the intent, ceratinlly this will, assuming it comes to pass, violate the Constitution, But there is no one left to enforce the Constituion or it’s intent in out GVT offices. I will go out on a limb with my own opinion and state that 75% of the people who are US citizens don’t have a clue about the Constituion, which allows such things to be proposed.
I will simply save my energy until it is needed for better things or I die, whichever comes first.

The Feds are getting scared. They see what is happening in Iceland right now. The American Revolution II is quickly brewing. Don’t worry, there are a minimum of 300 million firearms in the United States right now. That does not account for unregistered firearms. You could probably add another 3-6 million to this figure. Bottom line…..the U.S. is not capable of fielding an army that would be capable of controlling the citizens if violence breaks out. The government, state, and local law enforcement would be taken down within days.

In Iraq before the war there were about 25 million people. Most every household had an AK 47 or better assault rifle. Since the air war was on and most of the Iraqi military was broken up well before the first troops rolled in on the ground large numbers of Iraqi military hardware fell into the hands of civilians. This increased the number of weapons and explosives in the hands of the people. How much good did it do them? Not trying to be pessimistic, just realistic. The only edge we have in the US is the Minuteman philosophy and most of us can hit what we aim at.

The National Guard are Americans too, and with family and friends whom they have to account to, and are probably influenced by. They are not mindless automatons under the thrall of a democratically elected government. I would suggest that since you know who they are, in principle, now would be a good time to go visit and/or write to these guys and persuade them that following orders is not a valid line of action, if they want to end up with a country which is worth defending.

Think about it-you’re gonna mutiny (which will be considered treason) in the middle of a combat operation? A WAR!? How is it that these people can act on any intention without any regards for the constitution set out. Is there no ombudsman or agency outside of the government to control its actions. knowledge is power but accountability is everything. some actions should never be allowed to happen. what is there to protect the people from tyrants if no protection is given to the papers and its laws set out to protect the people. The government is the one that needs policing.

A bit off subject here, but I feel as though I MUST inform others on “How To Make Your Own Water” out of thin air. Pull out your de-humidifier, or buy one–costs less than $150.00– and buy a Brita water filter jug. Set up your de-humidifier outdoors and collect the water from the tray. Pour the water through the Brita filter and enjoy. There is an advertisement on this site that sells an eco friendly way of producing water with their machine, but its too expensive…$1500.00. I believe one tenth the cost is a better alternative. If you’re not sure about the safety of the drinking water from the de-humidifier, boil the water first, then pour through the Brita water filter.

I posted earlier regarding the fact that I’m confident the majority of military and police will do exactly what they’re told if the American sheep refuse to be shorn and slaughtered, but I should follow up that assertion with something I neglected to factor in, which is the vital componenet in any such equation : that the American people actually WOULD RESIST!
Considering what we have experienced over the Clinton, then Bush satrapies, I find it very unlikely that many people will stand-to and even give the troops reason to carry anything more than tasers (which they will need, of course, for their entertainment while hustling the cattle into their pens).
I absoloutely hate like hell to have such a negative view of my countrymen, but any people who has allowed the outright criminal slaughter at Waco, 9-11, the lies for wars, and more recently the largest coup d’etat in all history, the so-called “Bailout”, in which ONLY SIX OF THE CONGRESSMEN WHO VOTED FOR IT WERE VOTED OUT OF OFFICE (!!!), obviously have, at least psychologically, surrendered…and the Global Elite KNOW IT! My God, people, the ICELANDERS, the most civilized and pacific people in the world, unarmed, stormed the capital over their financial betrayal!

Hi all,
My only thought here is that the weapons used by govt will be ones that firearms are powerless against. They probably will not worry about who has firearms because they know their tool is resistant to every shell mfg’d. It almost makes me wonder will it be toxic, nuclear or bio weapons. This is only my humble opinion. Welcome any comments, suggs or ideas on this.

Aussie is a cop – Does anyone believe that the radio shows, employees, production, web sites, etc. are free? AJ probably spends $1,000,000 a year just to pay these costs. He works every day nonstop.
