Dr. Francis S. Collins, the geneticist who discovered the causes of half a dozen diseases, oversaw the government’s efforts to map the human genome and wrote a now-famous book presenting scientific evidence for a belief in God, will be nominated to head the National Institutes of Health, the White House confirmed Wednesday.

I would like you to back up that claim with a credible source.
Searching for percentages of scientists (regardless of discipline) who even believe in god is 40% at best… depending on their discipline, this figure goes as low as 15%.
As far as hard wired to the brain… perhaps you misread or misunderstood what those studies found…

When they probe those normal embyos they don’t produce a totally normal human, the human may be left with anxiety, or sadnes for the rest of its life. I had the chance to hear this man speak several months ago at the Virginia Commonwealth University graduation ceremony. He was the keynote speaker for the event. I was apprehensive as I read his bio in the commencement program. However, I must admit that it was the best commencement speech that I have ever heard. He also expressed sentiments that lead me to believe that he may be the renegade in the system rather than a rank-and-file eugenicist. So, I hope this will stand as one of the few good appointments to come from this administration.

Can someone help me understand this, I am not trying to insight a flame war, I have a legitimate question: I have been listening to Alex and other shows on GCN for a while now. The hosts, callers and “followers” overarching personality trait seems to be skepticism. Any news story in the MSM, is met with skepticism and “oh there has to be another agenda here” or “oh, there motivation is malicious rather than altruistic” I think you’all occasionally go overboard, but in general I think a skeptical attitude is healthy… what I cannot understand is why most all of the callers and all of the hosts are very religious! How does this fit with the skeptical world view. It seems like they turn their world view on everythin but religion. I am agnostic, I dont claim to know whether there is a god or not.. there may be.. But as a skeptic, studying about what the bible actually is, who wrote it, and when they wrote it and why.. leads me to believe that there is no magic or supernatural powers in it at all… I dont understand why most Jones listeners are so skeptical of everything but religion..
Which (finally) brings me to my point, you now have a legitimate scientist and a christian as head of the NIH and most of the comments are just bitching.. you should be happy an secular aethiest eugenicist is not it power, but instead jut bitching… ugh

Prepare!
Scientists have discovered “mysterious” tremors occurring deep in the San Andreas fault line and they say something may be changing down there! It may be a precursor for a large quake. These deep sounds are being picked up by monitoring equipment at various points in California.
In addition, a large quake has struck this morning off the coast of Oregon. In the last few days, a series of moderate quakes has shaken the ocean floor. Something is moving there and may trigger the 9+ we have been expecting.
Furthermore, smaller quakes are now hitting in the eastern Bahamas. This is unheard of. Perhaps Edgar Cayce’s predictions of Atlantis rising here is now happening. If so, goodbye to Florida.

Just because stupid people claiming to be christians have been saying the world will end tomorrow have been wrong so many times they’re starting to use other religion’s doomsday dates as they’re own. Pathetic.
The Mayans said the world as we know it will end not necessarily an apocalypse, They also based their prediction on the fact that the Earth, Sun, and the supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy would be in perfect alignment on the Winter Solstice of 2012. Give credit they had the balls to give an exact date of “apocalypse” with some scientific theory behind it. Remember their calender is probably the most accurate in the world and that they were far ahead in their knowledge of astronomy.
