The Raw Story
November 5, 2009
And the worst-case scenario could see popular Web sites like YouTube and Flickr shut down because of a provision in the treaty that would force them to monitor everything uploaded to the site for copyright violations.
Internet law professor Michael Geist published details of “leaked” portions of the discussions on ACTA on his blog Tuesday, as a new round of ACTA negotiations began in Seoul, South Korea. The US, along with all the countries of the European Union as well as Japan, Canada, Australia and a handful of other countries, are involved in the negotiations.

Probably more effective, face-to-face, communication. It WILL back-fire. Elites haven’t got a clue, at all. Their only option is to give up because we will not.

How do you just stop people from sharing files? Isn’t that impossible?
rave669 Reply:

The native Americans thought you couldn’t own land, until the settlers showed them a little invention called a fence.
They can just turn off the internet at the tap by shutting down an ISP, shutdown hubs, they can block individual IP addresses, hell they can open and close ports too. Comcast got into serious trouble for shaping the traffic and limiting bandwith for bittorrent file transfers. It’s not impossible.
Sure, you can copy a CD and hand that copy to someone personally; You can xerox or scan pages from a book, put them on a thumb drive, etc… You can’t make file sharing completely disappear, but they can warp the networks in such ways as to make it very challenging. And, for the most part, if the solution to sharing files isn’t “point-and-click” not nearly as many people will be sharing files. People have been doing it for ages, but not many people have the patience to figure out usenet, telnet or newsgroups. The more complicated the method, the less people will do it, and I’m sure the powers that be are okay with that.

Time is running out. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ now, or get ready for the tribulation. This is not a drill, but truth. Hell on earth is about to be unleashed very shortly. We are the final generation, you must change your mind about Christ. He died on the Cross for your and my sins and paid the price with his blood. You must believe upon Christ as savior or will you face the seven years of wrath.

Tell all employees to ignore having to police the net, let them all carry AR-15s to work, and to install lots of cameras outside and inside the building. When the nazi american or un soldiers are forced to storm the facebook HQ, we get it all on tape then upload to the net to show the facists in the open.
Then maybe we have civil war 2. I guess after that its a matter of how pussy the Americans are.

I have to say that’s a pretty deep observation. Maybe that’s why they don’t bust torrent users? It’s easily done, you know. Torrents open your IP up for all the world to see. The feds could just sit back and bust people all day long, giving out fines and reaping a huge revenue. Maybe you’ve just explained why this isn’t done.
And as others have said on this page, the movies, music, games, etc. really are a load of time-wasting crap. People live in these fantasy worlds instead of the real world. I saw some people in my office gathered around a lady who’d downloaded “virtual leaves.” They were all oohing and aahing about the fake leaves. We live in the Ozarks, it’s November, the REAL TREES are bursting with REAL AUTUMN COLORS! But they can’t be bothered to go outside and brave the bright blue skies and clean crisp air. Weird. November 5th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
Hmm… I’m thinking this is more about torrents and the illegal spread of pirated software and media. I say let ‘em bust the torrent thieves. Anyone who honestly believes their “freedom” extends to ripping off other people’s copyrighted material is just bonkers. Certainly I don’t fret over some millionaire celeb getting cheated out of an MP3 here and there, but you can’t expect theft to be part of the “Bill of Rights” and 1st Amendment.
As for YouTube, most of those videos consist of 30 seconds of very lame and worthless introduction, then lots of typed text that you have to read (no vocalization), loud ugly music ripped off from some other source, and a bunch of video clips ripped off of other shitty videos. They usually end with another 30 seconds of idiotic promotion of a fake trademark that the uploader created in MS Paint. That’s not to say that all YouTube videos are garbage, only 90% of them are.
Do you get my drift? Most of these videos are not “homemade.” The are bits of clips ripped off from someone else, mixed with bits of music ripped off from someone else, with lots of lame, misspelled and grammatically incorrect text. It’s laughable.
Bottom line: if you’re stealing via Torrents you deserve what you get. I won’t cry for you and I certainly won’t fight for your non-right to rip people off.

already cracked 2 wep connections near my house which i can pick up as long as my laptop is near the window (either side of my house). once i get an nvidia card i can crack the wpa’s around here (takes too long to crack the key on my cpu). proxies are too slow and often stop working or get their ip’s banned, so generally they’re only good for surfing anonymously – not mass file sharing. I’m currently running 2tb worth of videos off of my neighbors connection, also i got into his router which lists my laptop and server as the only 2 machines to ever have connected to it (it keeps them saved for a week then they disappear) which would indicate that no one is using it. 2wire routers always have wep encryption :p

I dont know about music but when movie rights are sold the artist/producer get a small amount, the distributor gets a bigger chunk and rarely if they ever are big budget or hyped up go to movie theatres and make money usually the movies in theatres loose money, there is usually only costs covered if lucky, the major money made is still from dvd sales/rentals if the bootleggers take that channel away there will be alot of small producers -like myself- out of work and the only movies you see will be the mainstream crap most people who like movies hate.
November 6th, 2009 at 2:49 am
Copyright Law does NOT necessarily mean that copying or modifying copyrighted material such as songs, books, software, is illegal. The restrictions about what you can do or not do with copyrighted materials are determined by the license agreement for each copyrighted work. Open source licences such as the GPL, Creative Commons, and many others specifically enforce people’s rights TO copy, modify and share copyrighted materials when the copyright holder commits to applying such a license to their work. This is nothing new. Linux, for example has been around for almost two decades and the GPL has held it’s own in multiple court cases such as the famous SCO lawsuit. I would recommend that politicians learn about technology before they blindly generate legislation that will be useless the moment it is signed into law.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:25 am
I could see the old UUCP network coming back. That would be almost impossible for the government to police. Unlike the Internet, UUCP would be to censor.
For the younger folk, UUCP is a network that predates the internet, where one computer would dial anohter and so on for delivering data. It is a lot slower than the Internet, but that might have to happen if this shit goes through.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:07 am
Three strikes? One too many. Every dog’s allowed one bite, sure, so i’d reduce the number of strikes to two. But i’d go further than merely banning these criminals from the internet after their second offence. I’d have them shipped off to forced labour camps, or better yet, shot! And i’d invoice their closest relative for the cost of the bullet, put them on ice and strip them of their organs and auction them off to the highest bidder on the international market (Chinese-style). Perhaps if we televised the torture of some of these criminals it may deter others from following suit. TV adverts broadcasting their ear piercing screams and helpless sobs while showing their bloody pulp of a face and panning over to the harrowing expressions on the faces of their loved ones should do the trick.

Lets think about it for a second… What is this going to affect? You Tube will not just simply shutdown how ever, if Youtube have to regulate their upload content it might take weeks to get none copyright infringement material ie. video of police brutality or open political fascism uploaded. This will mean that real people news will not happen as quickly or as efficiently as has been the case in recent years. G20 protests and police brutality footage was available in almost real time, as a result most of us internet users were able to form our own informed decisions before government censorship could bury the story – As a result of this global treaty world wide instant information will be put back under the controls of our regulators (our governments) real people you tube videos may take weeks to surface may be even months due to “our back log of upload material….” and even a few days in difference of information delivery can be the difference in success or failure. ( Remember Waterloo, Rothchilde, Wellington and British gold – This all came down to Rothchilde receiving vital information about the battle a full two days ahead of the British monarchy and as a result being able to hijack the entire countries gold supply.)
Failure to retain the internet as a public servant of the people for the people will result in the same disastrous consequences that came about through loosing ownership of our Governments and police services……..
TOTAL TYRANNY
