GM, Amtrak and an Increasingly Fascist America

Last week, General Motors finally declared bankruptcy. Many in government thought $20 billion in taxpayer dollars would save the company, but as predicted, it only postponed the inevitable. The government will dump another $30 billion into GM and take a 60 percent controlling interest for it. Public officials are now involving themselves in tactical business decisions such as where GM’s headquarters should move and what kind of cars it will build.
The promise that this is temporary and will eventually be profitable is supposed to ease the American people into accepting this arrangement, but it is of little comfort to those who remember similar promises when the American taxpayers bought Amtrak. After three years, government was supposed to be out of the passenger rail business. 40 years and billions of dollars later, the government is still operating Amtrak at a loss, despite the fact that they have created a monopoly by making it illegal to compete with Amtrak. Imagine what they can now do to what is left of the great American auto industry!

Had it been allowed to fail naturally, the profitable pieces of GM would have been bought up and put to good use by now. The laid off employees would likely have found new jobs and all that capital would be in private hands, reinvested in companies that produce products demanded by consumers. Instead, we are all poorer now.
Political pressure, rather than the rule of law, is deciding how to divide up the remains of GM. The bondholders had billions in retirement savings invested in the company, and though they were entitled to nearly three times as much as the United Auto Workers, the bondholders were left with just a 10 percent stake compared to the union’s 17.5 percent stake. For their 60 percent stake, taxpayers have a future of constant bailouts to look forward to.
Comingling public control of private business is known as fascism. While today’s politicians may feel emboldened with all their new power, history will only repeat itself as all this collapses on itself. It is the height of hubris for bureaucrats and politicians to attempt to control the market and the freewill of the American people. In the end, the market always wins out. Maybe one day future generations will wise up and allow free markets to function and thrive without the albatross of government around its neck. For now, it looks like those in charge have not learned the lessons of the past, and have doomed us to repeat those mistakes once again.

I’m quite sure Dr. Paul knows the definition of fascism. If you think he is wrong, I think you should find a better dictionary. Nationalization of industry is a first step to fascism. Mussolini’s Italy is a great model for Obama’s America. Corporatism is the term El Duce himself preferred. The definition of fascism is purposely misguided in our culture to mean anything militaristic, anti-semetic, or “right-wing”, when in reality none of these are directly fascist. A good book on this topic (although I don’t care for the authors red vs. blue stance) is “Liberal Fascism” by Jonah Goldberg.

I understand why you would think this. Most religious people ARE passive “turn the other cheekers”. However TRUE christians (and there are few) know to stand up for what is right. Defend our God given freedoms, because to not defend them is like telling God that we don’t care what he gave us. This life matters 100% and we will be judged on the decisions we take based on what trials are given to us. To just say “Oh the world will end anyway” is an excuse to not do anything at all- a sort of “pass” ticket to just get out of it. When I look logically at the ways people relate, it’s so clear to me that there can be no greater truth than Jesus. If there were no power in His Name, then why would every ignorant reprobate use it to make their point?

You can thank these companies and of course the government for their demise. I know it would be bad for us as a nation but we need to quit bailing out these failing companies and let them fall. Back in the 80’s (if the time frame is correct), last time Chrysler went under, there were all these hearings at congress in order to give them money, but no this time… it was all fast tracked puttind a young guy with no experience in the Auto industry in front of the deal.

They knew all right that 20B will be needed to rescue share holders. They know that the company will go under regardless of that money and that it will take 50B more to save face.

In the mean time, all GM/Chrysler small and medium suppliers will have a very hard time trying to survive with their accounts receivable slashed by 75% and dry credit market. Give the money to the big guys and forget about the small ones.

One day in July 1999,I was relaxing by the pool at my resort hotel in Nags Head, North Carolina…I had driven there from Tappahannock Virginia to spend a week on vacation on the Atlantic Ocean with my family…A few yards away,a fellow was reclining in a big chair,smoking a large cigar and asked me if I had any matches…I walked over to hand him a lighter and he motioned for me to have a seat…We began a conversation as his wife and two kids were enjoying the pool as well as my family,also…The first thing that most people ask is,”where are you from” ?…I’ve asked that question about a 100 times a day in an area such as that and many times found that folks from Ohio love to vacation there, at Nags Head, such as this fellow…This man said he was from Ohio and worked for General Motors in the Chevy Van Plant…He told me he was on a 3 month paid vacation to which I replied, how this was possible…He began to explain how the company executives’ sons and daughters would participate in a summer paid program to work in the factory in his place and others…It was shocking to understand how the company could pay 2 salaries for the same job with I don’t know how many thousands of workers…Now I understand that this is only 1 example of the many of ” How to Bankrupt a Big Company ” !!!…

This country has definetly gone to hell. Look how unhappy and stressed out people are. Sit in your local McDonalds and just watch the masses herd in, get all annoyed cause they have to wait a few minuetes for their food and watch their faces while they stuff that cold crap down their mouths. What cracks me up about the vehicles today. They brag on the commercials “Get 32 miles per gallon”. WTF! We were getting that in the 70’s. We not only have the technology for oil free cars but I’ll bet anything we have it for many hundreds to the gallon.

man..all…I can say if we own amtrac…we dont have much..just got off that piece of shit..allways heard how nice it was to travel on a train…no way…the seats are to hard to sit in little on sleep on…was on that piece of crap..2 days couldnt afford the sleeper which the charge 180..00 extra..if they would have taken out every other seat and made the seat fully reclinable every one could have streatched out and slept…the trains are only half full…they wanted 20.00..for dinner..to much for so called..gormet tv dinners…one guy I was talking to said well..atleast amtrac didnt get a bailout..and I said thats because theyve been owned by us for over 20 years…and weve bailed them out ever since..they run in the red..he didnt believe me..hes like look at all the money they are making…yea looks like pure profit to me…since the gov…pays for everything…anything they make is extra…

alex and co: there are automated systems for filtering out offensive words of your choosing. make a list of the 500 most unwanted words, input them into the software and the posts u receive will automatically moderate themselves. you can save the dollar and put it to much better use. people will need to write ‘persons of the abrahamic faith’ etc etc. this would very quickly deter the muppets from posting because their inane, vaccuous and insulting words as they wouldnt see the light of day and they would inevitably move on. to lose these threads would be a great shame, you know it would. much respect to anyone trying to effect positive change, and cold shoulder to you foolish children that need to grow up.

I’m Glad Alex shut down comments on the money bomb thing. People were posting Spam and flooding the comment section. And for people saying Alex is just money hungry blah blah blah he has a nice studio by the looks of it and is doing things the only way he knows how and the way he has always done it. Until my printer fatally malfunctioned, I had to print the Infowars exclusive stories because there is too much vulgarity in the comments for my children to have direct access to the site, which is a shame.
Freedom of speech is wonderful, until it drives people away from a sound argument and presentation of facts as excessive profanity and threats of violence are a turn-off.
Furthermore, all of these “he’s a troll, she’s a troll” tit for tat is a distraction from on subject rational comment and debate.
Now, I think the polite word for facism is entertaining: corporatism. It is akin to using the word “progressive” in place of communist. Just as the Russians had an official car, just as the Germans had an official car (which is still on the market), America may find itself with an official automobile. Once the auto manufacturers have failed and have been merged, we will have the opportunity to purchase an environmentally sustainable family car. Won’t that be wonderful?!
