On Tuesday the media made a big deal out of Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s refusal to shake Obama’s hand when he arrived in Dallas.

However, as the photo below shows, Perry relented.

“I appreciate the offer to greet you at Austin-Bergstrom Airport, but a quick handshake on the tarmac will not allow for a thoughtful discussion regarding the humanitarian and national security crises enveloping the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas,” Perry wrote in a letter to Obama. “I would instead offer to meet with you at any time during your visit to Texas for a substantive meeting to discuss this critical issue.”

Perry has positioned himself as one of Obama’s most strident critics since the border issue developed.

He earlier suggested the administration was behind the influx of illegal alien children from Central America.

“We either have an incredibly inept administration, or they’re in on this somehow or another. I mean I hate to be conspiratorial, but I mean how do you move that many people from Central America across Mexico and then into the United States without there being a fairly coordinated effort?” he asked.

“What has to be addressed is the security of the border. You know that. I know that. The president of the United States knows that. I don’t believe he particularly cares whether or not the border of the United States is — is secure,” Perry added. “Unless we secure our southern border, this is going to continue to be a massive amount of individuals that are coming to the United States.”
