Guns and Texas

One of Texas’ proud sons, William Martin, sent me this heartening article about Rep. Steve Toth, a state legislator there who “says he’s trying to make sure the federal government doesn’t take away our gun rights. … Toth wants to make any new federal weapons ban illegal in the state of Texas.”

Yeehaw! Looks as if I’m gonna have to move to Texas — even the way the mainstream there reports the news (“make sure the federal government doesn’t take away our gun rights“) is a vast and refreshing improvement over the East Coast. You’d never catch the nincompoops at the New York Times admitting that we have any “gun rights,” let alone that the Feds hope to rob us of them rather than “protect” us. And catch these additional quotes from Steve, which again would never have survived the editor’s red pencil at the Slimes: “This is a hardened state. This isn’t a good place for a criminal to show up and start shooting. … We want to make sure this legislation protects the Second Amendment gun rights and the Tenth Amendment which is state sovereignty rights of Texans.” Whoa!

Which brings us to the extension of more kudos to the Tenth Amendment Center. Whether they have actively worked with Steve Toth, or whether nullification simply permeates the air now thanks to their efforts, liberty may yet revive!

Mr. Martin also forwarded this story about “Texas Republican [U.S.] Rep. Steve Stockman threaten[ing] Monday afternoon that he would file articles of impeachment against President Barack Obama if he institutes gun control measures with an executive order. Stockman warned that such executive orders would be ‘unconstitutional’ and ‘infringe on our constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms.’ ‘I will seek to thwart this action by any means necessary, including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the White House, and even filing articles of impeachment,’ Stockman said in a statement.” “Defunding the White House”!!!!!! Oh, don’t you love that?!!!!! It’s so magnificent I’ll even pretend Stockman is sincere rather than posturing! And “filing articles of impeachment”!!!! You go, guy! Double whoa! And another yeehaw, too!
