Hardware, Not Hackers, Brought Down Amazon

Amazon.com’s European websites were down for more than half an hour last night, a problem the company blamed on a hardware failure in its European data centre network.

The online retailer’s UK website was also affected by the outage.

Amazon’s explanation was contrary to widespread media reports which claim that Wikileaks ‘hacktivists’, called ‘Anonymous’, were behind website failure. The online retailer was one of the first companies to stop providing cloud services to Wikileaks. It was a planned target for a denial of service attack until hackers reportedly abandoned the plan due to a lack of resources.
