BAGHDAD — The pending merger of Heritage Oil and Turkey’s Genel Energy for oil developments in Iraqi Kurdistan may be a watershed for the region.
Heritage combines with Genel to examine the possibility of linking northern Iraqi oil fields with pipelines, the Financial Times reports.Despite lingering disputes over the laws governing the Iraqi energy sector, exports from the Kurdish Taq Taq and Tawke oil fields began June 1 with revenue deposited into federal accounts. The Kurdish developments are complicated, however, by a lack of payment agreements for the field operators.
The Tawke Field began exports at an initial rate of around 60,000 barrels per day, while the Taq Taq field north of Kirkuk trucks oil at the rate of 40,000 barrels per day to Turkish ports.
Paul Atherton, the top financial official at Heritage, said the merger with Genel will create a “new regional giant” in Iraqi Kurdistan, which is peppered with smaller developers.

Why do I not see American oil companies in the news when it comes to Iraq oil. I thought the war was one for oil? I guess it might be a war for oil, but even though American’s spend countless amounts of dollars they don’t have, where’s the freaking reward for us? Hell, I thought 1.29 dollars a gallon was quite reasonable before Bush-lite and his Republican/Democrat cronies began spending billions and sending out people off to die. Really, wouldn’t it have been cheaper and all around friendlier to just pay for the freakin’ oil in the first place? I know, I ask too much, for things like sanity and reason.

The Kurds are the largest ethnic population without a country of their own, courtesy of the UK, the same ones that were the first to put non-combatants in concentration camps.

I happen to agree with “Budda Johnson”. There are Production Service Agreements (PSA’s) that were made between Western oil companies such as Shell, ExxonMobil, Chervon, and British Petroleum (BP). While Halliburton (KBR) facilitates the oil pipelines and military services for the troops throughout Iraq. OIL is the true reason why our soilders are sent back on repeatedly on 15 month combat tours and DIE!!!!
