Higher doses of Flu Vaccine for elderly ‘to boost immunity’

COMMENT: This article even admits that the higher doses led to a higher percentage of problems in the related study, excusing that most side effects only last a few days. However, other studies show that higher doses of shots could be tied to higher levels of Alzheimer’s.

Giving people age 65 and older a dose four times larger than the standard flu vaccine boosts the amount of antibodies in their blood to levels considered protective against the flu, more so than the standard flu vaccine does. The findings from a study of nearly 4,000 people were presented Oct. 26 at a national meeting on infectious diseases.
The higher dose of vaccine generally resulted in approximately 30 percent to 80 percent more antibodies against flu, long considered a good measure of protection.
Ann Falsey, M.D., associate professor of medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and an infectious diseases specialist at Rochester General Hospital, presented the results at the 48th Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC)/Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) 46th annual meeting. The study was funded by sanofi pasteur, the vaccines division of sanofi-aventis Group, which makes Fluzone® Influenza Virus Vaccine, a licensed flu vaccine used widely in the United States and elsewhere.
The immune system generally weakens as we get older, not only leaving people more vulnerable to infection but also reducing their ability to respond to vaccination. While some studies have questioned the effectiveness of the flu vaccine in older adults, the nation’s leading public health experts stress that it’s a worthwhile, even life-saving, measure. About 90 percent of the estimated 36,000 people who die from flu-related causes in the United States each year are 65 and older.
“Without doubt, the influenza vaccine as it is today is beneficial for everyone, including older adults, and we strongly encourage every older person, and every person with a chronic illness, to get vaccinated,” said Falsey. “However, older people generally don’t respond to vaccines as well as young healthy adults and therefore, there is much room for improvement. The goal is to increase immune response in older adults, since this is one of the populations most at risk for becoming seriously ill or dying from influenza.”
The conventional flu vaccine is a combination of three circulating strains of flu, with each component consisting of 15 micrograms of material designed to evoke an immune response to protect a person against a particular type of flu. In the study headed by Falsey and conducted at 30 sites around the country in fall 2006, physicians compared the immune response brought about from a traditional flu vaccine compared to that from a vaccine shot containing four times as much material – 60 micrograms of material known as hemagglutinin for each of the three components.
In the study of people age 65 and older, the larger dose was given to 2,575 participants, while 1,262 subjects received the standard dose. Scientists checked the level of antibodies in the blood of the participants one month later.
A greater percentage of people who received the high-dose vaccine had the typical side effects associated with the flu shot, including redness, swelling, and pain at the site of the injection, but the symptoms generally did not last longer than three days.
One especially interesting bit of data from the study, according to Falsey, was the effect of the larger dose on people who had no measurable antibodies against certain strains of the flu when the study began.
Such people are considered especially vulnerable because their body doesn’t have the “head start” that most people have in generating at least some protection against flu on their own, before the vaccine offers a needed boost. These people might also represent a group that does not respond well to vaccines in general.

This explains how the flu vaccine is used to cause Alzheimer’s. I showed here that the research by Harvard was an absolute lie. Giving Alzheimer’s to baby boomers is a great way to balance the social security budget since old folks with scrambled brains are defensless. They even came up with a pill for Alzheimer’s a couple of years ago that gives temporary relief of some symptoms but kills the patient quicker.

I was watching msnbc this afternoon and there was a segment referring to the flu vaccination. This would have normally skipped right past me except that it wasn’t delivered the way a “news” segment is normally delivered. Usually when they come back from commercial you’d have a station or title bump then the Anchor would prep the story with a few bits before the reporter would present or narrate the segment.
Instead this segment popped up during the commercial break and it suggested that more and more people are going to get their flu-shots. Up 16% over last year and you should have you babies vaccinated at the hospital before you take them home for the first time. Typically more tend to get their flu shots all at once. At the end there was no reporter name or station ID. I thought it might have been a commercial so I rewound my DVR and watched it again. No corporate logos or claim of ownership. Just info suggesting that you may want to get the flu shot because everyone else is. Once the unclaimed “infomercial” was over there was a MSNBC sation bump and the Anchor and panel went back to their Obama lovin’ with no mention as to what or who was responsible for the flu info segment.
The info was candy coated as any news story is but it’s delivery was suspect. Sadly I did not record it to PC because I don’t have the proper hardware. It was on between 2-3 EST.
I just thought that was a bit odd.

Vitamin d3 is the only proper form to supplement with, heavy people can easily take 10,000 iu with no negative effects. I personally take 5,000 iu now brand vitamin D for like 6 cents a day you can avoid vitamin d levels from being too low. 400 iu the current daily value is way to low to have proper levels.
If Dr. Mercola is correct then taking 2000 iu per kg of body for about 3 days if you already get the flu can stop it in it’s tracks if someone doesn’t heed proper advice early on and comes down with it.
You can buy 50,000 iu supplements, each one about 30 cents a pop, which already is a ton cheaper and so much safer than any jab could be.
Act now, a couple cents a day will be less than 1 day of missed work.

At Midwestern State Univeristy, in my girlfriend’s, sister’s sociology class, she is getting extra credit for going and getting the flu shot.
When I heard that I almost pooped. I can’t imagine, and look forward to hearing from either the sister or the professor of her class (after I e-mail him), why in the hell is he/she giving extra credit to people who get flu shots? What is that all about? Can you imagine? In a sociology class, being told that you’ll get extra points on your grade for flu shots?
Of course, I already know about one school requiring it for the kids that attend. Saying that it’s the law, you MUST get flu shots.

Vaccines are only proven to elicit an antibody response. These higher doses are not show to reduce mortality. If you look back at measles and rubella, the decline of the epidemic proceeded the implementation of the vaccines. I want more studies to prove vaccines are effective before I will use them

Boost immunity? I hope the elderly are smarter than the marketeers trying to sell them on that pseudo-science. No vaccine is 100% effective. As a matter of fact, you don’t have the flu unless its transmitted to you either naturally or through injecting into yourself. What a joke. The elderly would obviously be the most vulnerable to injecting manufacturing viruses into their bodies. Who do these organizations that manufacture and sell vaccines think they are foolin’?
Educate the young. They just may be the generation that could obliterated degenerating disease once the long-term effects of vaccines are finally revealed and released to the public. Our local school is telling all the girls age 14 and older, that it is mandatory to get the HPV vaccine. When they go to the clinic or hospital for the three round cocktail of death, they are also given the flu vaccine! These poor kids have no idea what is being done to them. My wife, who is a substitute teacher has been warning these girls about the dangers of this vaccine and passing out Waiver forms. She has not been called into work for almost three weeks now! We received two threatening phone calls last week as well. The good news is, most of the girls have been researching and spreading the word, and most importantly, refusing vaccines.
Lots of heavy chemtrails lately as well. I think it’s getting close folks!

I passed through Chicago/O’Hare last weekend and noticed they had a flu shot booth set up in the terminal. I asked the lady to see a list of ingredients, and she told me if I wanted to see if thimerosal was included, it was an ingredient. So it sounds to me like a lot of people had asked her about that. Seems the word is getting around. Needless to say, she didn’t have a lot of customers.

my father 74 yrs old just took the flu vaccine 1 month ago and is now in the hospital cuz he could not stand up w/o falling down…thought he was having a stroke. today they tell us he has influenza type A! wondering where that came from? now they want my mother to get vaccinated. Told her under no circumstances should she do that. now my father is being given tamiflu for treatment? does anyone have knowledge of what the stroy is on tamiflu? help please!
