Despite all Iranian and Syrian diplomats being ordered out of the country in recent months, the Canada Border Services Agency says it has no way to verify they have actually left.
The issue highlights what has been considered a hole in Canada’s border controls – a hole that has helped thousands of foreign-born criminals and failed asylum seekers remain in the country despite deportation orders.
On Sept. 7, the government ordered all Iranian emissaries out of Canada within five days as part of its decision to suspend diplomatic relations.
