Domestic Access to Spy Imagery Expands

A plan to use U.S. spy satellites for domestic security and law-enforcement missions is moving forward after being delayed for months because of privacy and civil liberties concerns.

The charter and legal framework for an office within the Homeland Security Department that would use overhead and mapping imagery from existing satellites is in the final stage of completion, according to a department official who requested anonymity because the official was not authorized to speak publicly about it.

The future of this program is likely to come up Wednesday when Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff goes to Capitol Hill to talk about his department’s spending plan.

Last fall, senior Democrats on the House Homeland Security Committee asked the department to put the program on hold until there was a clear legal framework of how the program would operate. This request came during an ongoing debate over the rules governing eavesdropping on phone calls and e-mails of suspected terrorists inside the United States.

    2. Grambo Says:

Unbelievable. Oh, use military spy satelites on citizens? Sure, thats constitutional. God help us.

    3. truthseeker Says:

      It’s coming.

    4. tymo Says:

i guess because the constitution doesn’t mention satellites, this program is ok. this is fuckin ridiculous. the constitution is no longer the supreme law of the land. the government just does whatever the hell it wants, privacy and civil liberties be damned.

i really like the subtitle: Domestic Access to Spy Imagery Expands the message? “we’re already doing it, we’re just expanding an existing program. so don’t worry, its ok.”

notice how the article implies that the “privacy and civil liberties concerns” have been thoroughly and adequately addressed? who actually spent months considering the privacy and civil liberty implications of this domestic spy program is not mentioned, nor are their conclusions. and then some anonymous homeland security “official” who is not authorized to speak of it publicly says publicly (apparently, its ok to speak publicly as long as it’s done anonymously) the charter and legal framework is in the final stage of completion. in other words, “we’ve considered the domestic spy program’s potential constitutional violations, and since there are none, we’re just wrapping up a few technical details. we’ll be watching y’all a lot more closely real soon.” nice…

where is the congressional and judicial oversight? oh, that’s right, its “likely” to come up in a discussion about the homeland security budget. huh?

    5. tymo Says:

oops. my mistake. Domestic Access to spy Imagery Expands is the title of the article. Home Ministry Office to Use Spy Imagery Against Citizens is the infowars.com headline. also, “Democrats on the House Homeland Security Committee asked the department to put the program on hold until there was a clear legal framework of how the program would operate…” i guess this is the congressional oversight. but apparently, its all good, because the program is moving forward. i suppose the judicial oversight doesn’t come into play until AFTER the government has actually violated our constitutional rights. undoubtedly, the burden will be placed on us to prove this.

Spying upon the citizenry in such a way, only demonstrates just how ARROGANT government has become, as if government was God, knowing absolutely everything about us as if we were fish in their glass aquarium.

The fact that government assumes the postion and role as “our god” should be very alarming to anyone with a functioning brain, considering man’s repeated history in such roles.

We are truly living at the beginning horrible times to come. With this arrogance comes exploitation and market harvest, as we have seen with all other lower species from whales to trees, cattle and pets.

I never though I would be glad that I have become old.

      Very sincerely

With all the high technology available these days it would behoove us to use it specifically to stem and stop all corruption within any government entity or agency. This would mean that all politicians, military, federal, state and all local authorities and any corporation doing business with the government should be scrutinized by the NSA technology used to monitor terrorists. All email, telephone, cell phone, computer accounts and all financial records would be monitored 24/7 to identify and remove corruption efforts before they become big problems. Of course finding criminal activity must be desired and even more importantly is the need to fix our judicial system that favors rich criminals and politicians. Until we have justice for all we have nothing.

this is a world of opposites. there is a left so there is right. this is a world of duality or we would all be self realized saints… which we should strive for anyway.

however, my point is that there is good and evil.
evil begets war, hate crime, fear, suspicion, untrustworthyness

i mean seriously how long will the US gov’t feed off the fears of others?
‘ oh now we’re on high alert, so now we will need your bank routing number so we can monitor monetary fraudulant activites ‘
