House lawmakers are moving toward their first vote on whether to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt in a dispute over documents lawmakers have subpoenaed in the Fast and Furious botched gun probe.
California Republican Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, who has helped lead the congressional investigation into Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ Operation Fast and Furious, announced Monday that his committee will take up a contempt report on June 20.
Last month, Mr. Issa’s staff produced the report, including a draft contempt resolution, which accuses the Justice Department of obstructing the congressional investigation by failing to produced subpoenaed documents. The report further alleges that the Justice Department has been slow to hold senior officials accountable, and has retaliated against whistleblowers who testified to Congress about the operation.

A U.S. House panel will consider on June 20 whether to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for failing to provide documents from a federal gun investigation.
The Oversight and Government Reform Committee scheduled a vote because the Justice Department hasn’t fully cooperated with a congressional probe of Fast and Furious, a law enforcement operation that allowed illegal U.S. weapons purchases to wind up in Mexico, said the panel’s chairman, Darrell Issa, a California Republican, in a statement.
