Ike Evacuation: ‘Hurricane Amnesty’ to Help Gulf’s Illegal Immigrants

Atlanta – As up to a million Texans flee the wind and rain of hurricane Ike, the federal government has imposed a “hurricane amnesty” for the state’s estimated 1.6 million unauthorized immigrants.
That means no ID checks at shelters, no border patrol checkpoints, no Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents scouring the highways, says Dan Martinez, spokesman for the Austin-based Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). He calls the massive evacuation a “humanitarian mission” to save lives ahead of what may become an 18-foot storm surge pushing against the vulnerable continental shelf of Texas.
Such assurances would normally be enough to convince the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants in seven coastal counties to get their families out of harm’s way, says Frank Bean, director of the Center for Research on Immigration, Population and Public Policy at the University of California in Irvine.

But with the intensification of crackdowns and raids in recent years, evacuation may prove a tough sell to some Hispanics in the storm’s path.
“There’s a contradiction here – the government is between a rock and a hard spot,” says David McEntire, an emergency response expert at the University of North Texas in Denton. “They want to enforce immigration laws, and another priority is to protect people and save lives. It’s not going to be an easy task to reconcile them.”
As mandatory evacuations begin today, the Red Cross has begun handing out leaflets across the region, informing illegal residents of the amnesty. Harris County officials have also informed Mexican Consulate General in Houston of the amnesty to help get the message out.
But in some areas, local emergency officials have not targeted the Hispanic community specifically. For one, authorities say they don’t have a good handle on the exact number of undocumented workers living in the storm zone. “We know there’s a significant number,” says Marco Bracamontes, a Harris County spokesman.
In nearby Matagorda County, emergency officials are equally unsure. “I don’t know how many are here,” says James Gibson, a Matagorda County commissioner.
In Brazoria County, where the coastal city of Freeport could take the brunt of the hurricane, officials have told everybody to get out but haven’t done any special outreach to undocumented communities.
“We’ve done just about all we can do,” says Marie Beth Jones, a spokeswoman for the county. “If they decide to stay, there’s not a whole lot we can do about it.”
The Bush administration stepped up immigration enforcement in the US interior in part to assure opponents of immigration reform that laws will be enforced, says Mr. Bean. The idea has been to win support for a political solution to how to deal with the up to 20 million undocumented immigrants living in the US, most of them from Central and South America. About 14 percent of them are believed to live in Texas.
Nationwide, ICE has stepped up its enforcement, making some 3,900 immigration arrests and 1,000 criminal arrests in the past 10 months. Texas has been the site of several major ICE raids, including the Swift and Company raids in 2006.

You don’t have the skills to do the jobs these mexicans do anyways, and if you had the skills you wouldn’t work for what they work for so what is it you think they’re taking from you?
Do you know that a mexican has a certain response to a white boy when he is called a mojado (wet-…;) he says you are a gringo salao. That means salty whiteboy in case you don’t know. And this means that you crossed the ocean, while he only crossed the few inches of what’s left of the rio grande. This world doesn’t belong to any man, nor this country to you. The creators laws say no land is to be sold permanently anyways, so you really don’t own anything, the garden you are supposed to be a caretaker of belongs to the rightful owner, and that’s not you, or me or anyone you know, or the goverments, or any kings, it always has and always will belong to the creator, so unless you know something I don’t, like maybe he’s given some of it to you, maybe you should show me the deed, ahhh yes that’s what I thought, you don’t have one, in fact all you have is opinions and thoughts and not much more.
If you really want a piece of land given to you, I suppose you’ll have to be alive after this coming war is over, and then you’ll have to be accepted by the creator as one of his son’s and then you’ll have to either ask him for it, but don’t forget in the process of asking you need to inform him that the land you want is to free of those stinking mexicans, now being as how he created them also, and some will be granted son-ship, and that would make them your brother, I don’t see him granting your racist request, so you might want to start learning how to love the way the creator loves, and not the way you’ve been taught.

Previously, as Director of the Federal Computer Incident Response Center, Hale led the transition of that organization into the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and served as Deputy Director of the National Cyber Security Division’s Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT).
While an officer in the United States Navy, Hale served as an information assurance action officer focusing on secure interoperability issues in the Joint Staff’s Command, Control, Communications and Computer Systems Directorate (J-6). While at the Pentagon, he was a member of the Joint Staff Information Operations Response Cell during a number of cyber events and exercises which helped shape the U.S. Government’s computer security policy.
Hale was one of Federal Computer Week’s 2003 Federal 100 Award winners, recognized for his contribution as an information technology leader.
In January 1999, he became the first military officer assigned to the National Infrastructure Protection Center (NIPC). While at the NIPC, Hale worked to improve the process of issuing warnings about cyber-related events and served on the Year 2000 (Y2K) task force in the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Hale retired from the U.S. Navy as a commander in May 2001. He has a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, and a master’s in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

No matter how you got here if it’s legal then that’s one thing but if your here illegally then we should not condone illegal actions by rewarding the illegals with amnesty. No two ways about it! My brothers wife is Mexican and so is my 1/2 mexican nephew and she feels the same way most legal Mexicans feel do and that’s if there’s a legal way to get here then that’s the way you should enter this country. Tearing down American flags and putting up Mexican flags is not only stupid but the Mexicans that do these things don’t see how they are being used by the globalist to carry out their dirty work that they themselves won’t do and when it’s all said and done the globalist will kill anyone they used against this nation to achieve their goal of overthrowing this nation because they don’t like loose ends. When the wife wanted to use it, she took a bucket of water along, and when she flushed the commode, the sewage ran out of a length of PVC into a drainage pit.

I fear, that one day, a Civil War will break out in this country over all the illegal aliens coming in and taking over. The government won’t do anything about it, so I think the people well say one day, “I’ve had enough.” Maybe that’s what the government wants, who knows, for sure?
I am not plagued with that problem, yet. I am happy about that, but I still don’t like what they do because most of them just bring their crap (drugs, disease, killings, etc) with them. I suppose there must be a few good ones, but the bad ones gives all of them a bad reputation.

Why is it these cities, and the people who live in them, that get hit with hurricanes year after year HAVE NO STORM SHELTERS?

Lets not let them make us dispair,they havent won yet. My Cherokee fathers fought the army and were marched to death on the trail of sorrows,in a way they lost, but in another their spirit of resistence still burns in freedom loving peoples hearts. My Cherokee and scotch-irish forbears fought to save their homes from Lincolns war of northern agression,there are some who think that they lost too,but again in the hearts of freemen&women the flame of liberty still burns and old ways die hard,even if we fight and lose we win,because we sow the seeds of liberty and resistence to another generation who will then pick up our example and strike a blow at the tyrant for their liberty,it has to happen every generation,cause folks seem to forget so easy,just because the elites have messed it up does not mean the dream is dead or that the fight isn’t worth it,there are answers to all these problems, they lie in the heart of all sons and daughters of this republic,
those who think they can kick liberty in the teeth, those who disregard the rule of law(constitutional) those who feel they are above the law,illegals or tyrants or just common crooks these all will reap the whirlwind of justice when the people that will stand , do stand and say its enough!

All I can say is that it’s our own damn fault for letting our country get this bad. Remember that old 80’s song “We didn’t start the fire”? Well just because of that same attitude we are in this mess! We need to start singing a new song and FIGHT. I don’t mean get a gun a peg off some illegals, but fight at your local state levels, learn how to become part of the system to turn the system around to work for the american people. Leaving our country is not the answer, bitching about it is not going to make it happen. BE THE CHANGE or watch the world around you become what you hate.

Us/Europe (NATO) are raping the Caspian sea of her oil and Russia is allowing this.Why is Russia not doing anything to prevent the stealing of her oil. Does anyone know why Russia is being surrounded by NATO and not responding with any force.If Russia came and surrounded our borders and stole our oil we would have nuclear war ! Maybe Russia has shares in the baku-tblisi-ceyhan pipeline which is responsible for the theft.

Some of the responses here are amazing. I am a second generation American, my mother was required to pass history tests, read and write English and swore an oath of allegiance to America. If you are here illegally, you are not an American, you have not earned the right to receive the benefits of citizenship.
It took my mother 10 YEARS to become a citizen, HOW DARE YOU call Americans RACIST, you come here illegally then COMPLAIN about arrests and deportation????? Mexican food has NOTHING to do with this argument, to put that argument in a text that is viewed worldwide makes you a world class idiot.
It’s about following the Constitution, OBEYING the laws and being someone who is an asset and resource to the country not some who WANTS benefits from the country.
I didn’t write the constitution but I took an oath to defend it with my life when I was 18 years old, I doubt ANY illegal alien LAW BREAKER can make that claim.

Judging by the path of the storm, as it made landfall IN GALVESTON (no, not near it) and DIRECTLY HIT HOUSTON, FOLLOWING THE HIGHWAY, this was clearly a HAARP creation or AT LEAST HAARP DRIVEN!
