Illegal immigrant sentenced for sex trafficking 15-year-old in Florence

An illegal immigrant living in Florence has been sentenced to more than 15 years in prison for the sex trafficking of a 15-year-old girl.

U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance said U.S. District Judge Lynwood Smith sentenced 32-year-old Manuel Enrique Zelaya-Rodriguez on Tuesday for the trafficking of an under-age girl for sex, coercing a minor to engage in prostitution and two immigration offenses, She said Zelaya-Rodriguez exploited a desperate child who was in the country illegally.

She said Zelaya-Rodriguez took money from 40 to 50 men to have sex with girl during a two-week period in 2009. A jury in Florence convicted him in September 2010.

The prosecutor said Zelaya-Rodriguez will be subject to deportation after serving his sentence of 15 years and eight months.
