In Violation of the Constitution: Obama Takes On Chairmanship of UN Security Council

Some unprecedented news today, folks. Never in the history of the United Nations has a U.S. President taken the chairmanship of the powerful UN Security Council. Perhaps it is because of what could arguably be a Constitutional prohibition against doing so. To wit: Section 9 of the Constitution says:
No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.
Nonetheless, the rotating chairmanship of the council goes to the U.S. this month. The normal course of business would have U.S. Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice take the gavel. However, this time will be different. Constitution be damned, Barack Hussein Obama has decided to put HIMSELF in the drivers seat, and will preside over global nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament talks slated to begin September 24th. The Financial Times says:
Barack Obama will cement the new co-operative relationship between the US and the United Nations this month when he becomes the first American president to chair its 15-member Security Council.
The topic for the summit-level session of the council on September 24 is nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament – one of several global challenges that the US now wants to see addressed at a multinational level.
UN officials also hope a climate change debate on September 22 will give fresh impetus to the search for a global climate deal at Copenhagen in December. There are also hopes a possible meeting between Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli prime minister, and Mahmoud Abbas, Palestinian Authority president, that Mr. Obama would host, could lead to a breakthrough about a timetable for Middle East peace.

Under the UN Charter, the functions and powers of the Security Council are:
* to maintain international peace and security in accordance with the principles and purposes of the United Nations;
* to investigate any dispute or situation which might lead to international friction;
* to recommend methods of adjusting such disputes or the terms of settlement;
* to formulate plans for the establishment of a system to regulate armaments;
* to determine the existence of a threat to the peace or act of aggression and to recommend what action should be taken;
* to call on Members to apply economic sanctions and other measures not involving the use of force to prevent or stop aggression;
* to take military action against an aggressor;
* to recommend the admission of new Members;
* to exercise the trusteeship functions of the United Nations in “strategic areas”;
* to recommend to the General Assembly the appointment of the Secretary-General and, together with the Assembly, to elect the Judges of the International Court of Justice.
No American president has ever attempted to acquire the image of King of the Universe by officiating at a meeting of the UN’s highest body. Obama apparently believes that being flanked by council-member heads of state like Col. Moammar Qaddafi — who is expected to be seated five seats to Obama’s right — will cast a sufficiently blinding spell on Americans.
He undoubtedly hopes that the horrid state of the nation’s economy, turmoil over health care, and a summer of racial scapegoating will pale by comparison. This role as UN
Security Council chair will allow him to make decisions, influence legislation and resolutions, and set the agenda.Right Soup will be closely following this very unsettling turn of events. Like I always say, pay attention to what Obama DOES.

Now, the president is not receiving anything from any other head of any other state. A one-month chairmanship of the Security Council is not illegal.
If it was, the media, republicans and probably some democrat would all be against it.

He’ll be accepting the Title of Chairman of the United Nations Security Council. Now are you trying to argue that the United Nations doesn’t count as a foreign State? Because I think it’s a pretty weak argument.
So, while I don’t agree with your point, I do think people are rushing to judgment because of another piece of the language they are ignoring. To avoid this move being un-Constitutional all he needs is Congress, controlled by Democrats, to simply consent. I don’t think that will be an issue with the number of Progressives(Communists) in Congress right now. Do you?

I wrote the 911 article for people who haven’t been exposed to 911 truth and who aren’t likely to take the innitiative to research it themselves. I believe we can still reach those people. They are not going to go digging into 911 at this late date, but if they take fifteen minutes to read the article it will leave nagging questions in their mind that will not be easily dismissed. People who are now on the sidelines can still be brought into the game. They may never be first string but they could at least become supporters. More than anything, people just need a little help to wake up from their propaganda enduced stupor.
I would like to see people all over the world use it as a tool, as a handout, to put on windshields etc. I have given them to friends and family, firefighters, and police. I have handed them out outside the Clinton presidential library and on the streets in Little Rock. I have left them on windshields outside of VFW’s and American Legions’s. It has been very effective. I suggest you do a little brushing up on the facts about climate change. It is not the major problem caused by humanity that you and most people believe in like a religion. Many imminent climate scientists have shown that CO2 has nothing to do with driving climate and it is actually the sun (sun spots). Try “The Great Global Warming Swindle” to get the basics. So that is why this is so worrisome. Obama becoming the leader of some international body while he is the leader of this country to talk about issues that are not even real problems while the economy implodes?? Give me a break…I just worry this is a sign of WWIII. Notice how one of his jobs will be to decide to take action against a country who is a threat and recently Israel seems to be gearing up to war with Iran and we are sending more troops to Afghanistan bordering on Iran….

I do not actually believe in climate change as a religion. And I have no idea what actually causes it. That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be addressed. But anyway my views on this has very little to do with the subject at hand which is president Obama having the chairmanship of the S.C.U.N.O.. And it should be noted that the chairman as no power. Everything is voted by the 15 members, and then the declaration gets passed.

It does have a lot to do with this subject because that is one of the topics they are going to be “discussing.” And it doesn’t matter if you know what causes the climate to change or not because a lot of climate scientists do (since it is their job to study) and they have found the sun is the major player. I would like to note that Obama doesn’t care what causes it as long as it can be used to gain more power and impose more taxes. And if the chairman had no power then why is there chairmanship? Why wouldn’t it just be a roundtable without distinctions such as chairman? Anyway that is beside the point. The point really is that the president has no business even taking this kind of chairmanship. we are just seeing the increasing centralization of world power.

Cooling/warming, whatever, the climate is changing and as been since the beginning of time. When the climate changes, it as major impacts on the population as regards to farming, natural disasters, excessive heat/cold, I think it’s important for world leaders to sit down and try to figure a way to either prevent/plan for worst case scenarios.
Some scientist will argue there is nothing we can do as humans to stop global warming since it’s the sun. But others will argue cutting CO2emissions will in fact stop or decrease global warming.
World leaders should again sit down and evaluate the situation together as a whole instead of each doing their own thing.

So you elect someone who turns out to be a con artist. (He told you what he was going to do, but didn’t, quite the opposite).
So you sit and listen to the con artist.
Meanwhile he wants the keys to your larder. So you give it to him, complaining about it.
So he tells you some more nice stories, which aren’t true either.
You listen and disagree. He ask you for your keys to the car. So you give them to him, grumbling about it. After he drives you car, he makes a deal with the gas station, that every time you fill up, they call him, so he knows he should ask you for your car. It’s full of gas now, isn’t it. So you moan about it.
He figures that you’re eating so well, that he should get a piece of that too, and makes a deal with the two local supermarkets only to carry products he sells through a company of a friend. It tastes bad, it’s not healthy, it is expensive. You know what is happening, but you keep going to either one of the two supermarkets anyway. But, … you do complain about it.
He then tells you he needs your kids, to help him straighten out a neighbor you never liked or cared for, so there go your two kids. Never come back, killed by the son of the neighbor, after they killed their mom and dad. Turns out mom and dad were not as bad as he had told you, but that doesn’t bring your kids back. You complain a lot lately. But you still listen to your elected friend, and think he will turn out A-ok, because he has such a nice voice.
Some friends start telling you about things they have heard about this guy, things they suspect, things they have found to be true.
Meanwhile you’re asked for your bank account info and yo make him a signatory. He uses all your money and things are getting out of hand. Meanwhile he has also moved in, and taken the master bedroom, and you live now in a tent in the backyard. Your money is suddenly gone, and your neighbors kids seem to be running around in another area and a lot never come back or are sick when they come back. All you friends turn kind of sour and weird. You DO complain a lot lately……..

You’re going to have a hard time convincing anyone with a brain that the United Nations is an “Enemy” of the United States. We’re a founding member of the organization and pay it lots of dues. You don’t treat “enemies” that way. Whether it is *good* for the U.S. is an argument I’m happy to hear, but calling it an “enemy” is absurd.
Also, this entire argument is incoherent nonsense. It’s no more “treasonous” or even inappropriate for Obama to head the security council when it’s our turn than it is for one of our ambassadors (*also* an officer of the United States Government just as much as he is, and subject to the same Constitutional requirements).
The Constitution lays out one of the roles of the executive branch (including the president and vice president, the idiocy of Dick Cheney notwithstanding) as being negotiation of treaties and similar agreements with foreign nations. This is the entire purpose of the United Nations. The president delegating this to the Secretary of State is absolutely no different from doing it himself.

I implore everyone who considers themselves an info-warrior to at least educate themselves. It amazes me how much garbage is spewed on these discussions. It is obvious, as a few readers have stated, that to take the position of chairman of the U.N. security council is not a treasonous act. It may be in poor taste, but that does not make it treasonous. And for the love of all that is right, can we please leave Satan worship out of cognizant conversation. Accusing people you do not agree with of Satan worship is akin to accusing outspoken women of practicing witchcraft. It is unbecoming of intelligent people to sink to such depths. I agree that not all is well in our system of government, however I see no solution in making wild assumptions. I simply request a bit of critical thinking before you blindly follow the words of over zealous religious folks, there is no problem with faith, there is a problem with religious stupidity. If you need more proof of that look to the crusades or perhaps the Salem witch trials.

As a former Democrate, I use to think that we all should be able to get along. I love peace as much as the next guy. 9/11 changed everything for me. I may want peace, but what does my enemy want? When will this government understand the nature of America’s enemy. I did not vote for Pres. Obama, but I voted for Pres. Clinton and then i voted for W. Pres. Bush understood America’s enemy. President Obama thinks he can solve every problem with a speech and charm. I would have voted for Powel if he ran for pres. I did not like McCain but what choice did I have? I disliked Obama more then McCain.
I am not shocked that obama wants to chair a UN council. He is drunk on his assumed ability to charm people and solve problems. I agree with others, If he chairs a UN council then Impeachment is inorder.

ok section 9 only applies to people employed by the US government, forbidding them to take other jobs in the US government. this does not apply to the UN. The entire purpose of the clause is twofold 1) to protect separation of powers by ensuring that no member of the Executive or Judicial Branches of the Federal Government could simultaneously serve in the Legislative Branch, and 2) to prevent Congress from conspiring to create offices or increase federal officials’ salaries with the expectation that members of Congress would later be appointed to these posts.
The only purpose of this clause is to prevent corruption within the government. Also maybe you should take into consideration that when this clause was written, the UN or any other international commtitee didnt even exist. So obviously this clause has nothing to do with any member of government working at any type of international group. That wouldnt even be in this section, that would have to deal with espionage, which is completely different. This clause does not have a damn thing to do with the UN. I think people should go to college or atleast learn about the government before they start posting these wild ideas on the internet.
