It is the Mr Versatile of the military transport world.
Measuring more than 55ft high and 174ft long, the cavernous Boeing C-17 Globemaster III is equally at home carrying a cargo of Army vehicles, a battle tank or a phalanx of diplomats.
On this occasion, it was the mode of choice for U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton when she arrived unannounced in Libya earlier this week.
Mrs Clinton was seen reviewing briefing papers in a colorful shawl and wearing with sunglasses in the bright and slightly chilly aircraft.
The aircraft is used to carry massive amounts of cargo — troops, food, supplies — all over the world, often on humanitarian relief missions.
