Guardsmen to conduct urban training at Arcadia in April

The Carroll National Guard unit will train on urban military operations by holding a four-day exercise at Arcadia.

The purpose of the April 2-5 drill will be to gather intelligence, then search for and apprehend a suspected weapons dealer, according to Sgt. Mike Kots, readiness NCO for Alpha Company.
Citizens, law enforcement, media and other supporters will participate.
Troops will spend Thursday, April 2, staging at a forward operations base at Carroll. The next day company leaders will conduct reconnaissance and begin patrolling the streets of Arcadia to identify possible locations of the weapons dealer.
The primary phase will be done Saturday, April 4, when convoys will be deployed from Carroll to Arcadia. Pictures of the arms dealer will be shown in Arcadia, and soldiers will go door to door asking if residents have seen the suspect.

A great thing to do for this little “training day” would be to completly turn it around and teach your kids what to do with a “suspected terrorist arms dealer”.. The pic circulates around this Iowa town so you will know what the “perp” looks like (plant a few moles). Get your rifles. shotguns..etc. Form a citizens posse and hunt this bastard down!! Take him to your citizen “camp” and waterboard him.. get all the info you can (where he came from, who he works for, why he’s there..etc). After interogation.. drop him at the nearest soon to be fema camp (d a little reseearch or follow the RR trax) and alert the real authorities of course. Thanks to the great citizens of Iowa for helping us aprehend this terrible “arms dealer” and for allowing them to play along. If you’re going to volunteer to help.. I can’t see how you’d be breaking any laws .. after-all it’s strickly for training purposes.

Inform them that you WILL NOT stop at any checkpoint. Tell them that ANY violation of your rights will result in a “Live Fire Exercise”. Inform them you will NOT comply, PERIOD. I’m not an American, but isn’t the National Guard a domestic military force? Are they going to be deployed in Afghanistan? Why practice in an urban setting when just about all A-stan’s urban settings were carpet-bombed? Wouldnt it make more sense to go from farm to farm? Why are they searching automobiles? I bet the only guy in the country with a car probably has guns, so you could save time searching. And how is them going door-to-door and asking the head of the household for permission so search, then having them open doors and cupboards and be in total control, be called training for A-stan? They expecting everyone over there to be more than happy to allow soldiers to randomly search their home?

Training to violate the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Amendment is not good. Training soldiers to violate their oath is not good. It also possibly violates the 9th and 10th.
Also, It is in violation of the Posse Comitatus Act…

I served three years in Vietnam with Special Forces. We found that the “Head of the Snake is hit first. You must have:
1. A large poor class (which we don’t have)
2. A very small middle class (which we don’t have)
3. A large (and corrupt rich class) which we don’t have.)
This is not the time for armed conflict, civil disobedience, rallies against the government is what is needed.
Armed conflict must and I emphasize Must be intiated by the the Government. similar to the action taken by Federal troops in Ohio.
Be patient, we have a long way to go. Oncd the government commits the armed forces into subduing demonstrations, then and only then will it be time to act. God Bless and Help us all.

You have to understand that people have been brought up believing that their government is there to help, and patriotism is the highest piety. For people to understand that governments are actually, in my opinion, one of the highest evils on this planet; you are talking about a complete 180 degree shift in thinking. That does not happen softly. For a revolution to occur, people must first come to the epiphany that their former way of life was a complete and udder lie. And that will only come with a fall from enormous proportions.
I am not trying to be pessimistic, but merely honest. I am not saying to lay down to the evil in this life, but we must realize that this is the biggest battle we could ever face. It runs so much deeper than flesh and blood.

This is not something that national guard should ever have to do. This is why we have BATFE. An unlicensed weapons dealer is BATFE jurisdiction, so why would we need the National Guard to act domestically?
If the BATFE isn’t going to do their job, don’t pay them. Shut them down. Until then, the ING has no reason to be involved in a weapons dealer bust, exercise or real, unless it is an internal matter, in which case it would be CID and MPs, not an infantry unit patrolling streets and going door to door.
This is ridiculous that the people are putting up with this! Claiming that this is a training exercise for anything other than gun confiscation and use of military force on the American people is a fraud.
Why are people not setting defensive barricades in their neighborhoods to prevent invasion by our own troops? I know I would. My buddy recommended that once you force them into the mock kill zone, drop smoke and/or buckets of tennis balls with streamers that say “boom” on one side and have a copy of the constitution on the back onto the top of the humvees from the rooftops and windows. Might teach those weekend warriors a little about the resistance they will encounter if they try this in a real op.

They just pulled a number today (friday 20,09) here in Colorado where they (National Guard) landed a chinook helicopter in a school yard so the the future grunts could see it. I made up a sign when I heard about it and stood on the sidewalk. The sign said; “Welcome fascists!”

While I fully believe this is dangerous inoctrination of the stupid masses, they (the military) are doing nothing illegal if the residents allow them to do the knock and search procedures since it is “officially” just an exercise.
Educating the public about legitimate concerns regarding what this could lead to is key here, and is all that should be done.
As far as body language and the whole procedure goes… Some of you were discussing “countermeasures”, well you were just clued in concerning how the procedure is carried out. Here is what to do:
1. Inform your families that no one is to EVER consent to a search or speak to any military or law enforcement without you present.
2. Never consent to a search.
3. Always answer “knocks” through the door. In other words, DO NOT open the door unless you are shown a warrant. If you feel compelled to go outside always close the door behind you and lock it if applicable.
4. Keep curtains and blinds closed and over any windows that are located on or near visual vantage points into your home in order to protect your privacy. This especially applies to the windows on your door.
5. If you must speak to military or law enforcement face-to-face don’t make any sudden movements. If for some reason you don’t want them to read your actual body language then remember that the head generally points towards the direction you are about to go and they will know this. It wouldn’t hurt to read some books on body language…
If you follow the first four steps you will eliminate their ability to look over your shoulder, enter your home, or read your body language because you will never be seen and your home will never be opened up.

I wish the people of Arcadia would understand what these drills represent. Unfortunately, the school systems are sub-standard, the water is fluoridated, and most citizens have been vaccinated. They totally believe “Hi! We’re from the government. We’re here to help!” I really wish they’d try a mock-up where they round up citizens in railcars and busses and take them to a FEMA camp…that may wake some people up!

no no.. here is the THE best deal available. Buy a Stevens 308 for 300 dollars and equip it with a Mueller APV 4.5 x 14 power scope for 114 and PRACTICE shooting 5 to 800 yards. There is sites online that show you the trigger adjustment for the rifle. ACCURATE, easily put 3 shots in a 4 inch circle @ 500 yards.

You are all overreacting. First of all, infowars.com misrepresented my article by switching my headline to say the Iowa Guard will be training soldiers to search for weapons. That is totally untrue. They corrected the headline (look if you don’t believe me) after I contacted them. The Guard has no intention and never mentioned that it would be training these soldiers to search homes for weapons. This is a voluntary exercise. Each and every home that is searched will have volunteered in advance.

If you want to get literal, the Guard unit is not part of the military. It’s state militia, which is not subject to posse comitatus.

Here’s an idea to protest this illegal activity by the US Govt. Encourage all citizen along the rout to be taken by the military to #1 have signs with the soldiers oath on it. #2 Dress up in Revolutionary War uniforms and stand along the rout. The soldier are “just following orders” they are illegal orders and these kids just need some guidance that they are being used against their own. This is where a stand needs to be made by common citizens that they are about to cross a serious line and their will be consequences.

Allowing soldiers to conduct door to door searches on innocent people as a means to find a weapons dealer? Enslavement of an entire town? This is straight out of 1984…or a out of Hitler’s playbook. Who decides what they are after? Training is broad, it is flexible and it can be applied to a great number of scenarios. Gun dealer, arms dealer, or all out disarmament of the public. Being in the military I don’t disagree with the NG training, but just the fact that it’s in the city looking for guns. Odd that the active duty never really trains in the city, we set up our own mock cities.

I really hope that those residence don’t feel that they have to participate. If they come knocking on the doors kindly ask them to leave and shut the door. If they threaten you in anyway after you do this video tape or take pictures of it. A picture’s worth 1,000 words and a video camera is worth millions. They fear the video camera because it’s the great equalizer in a non violent protest. Being an ex military man ( marine corp ) I can tell you what they are doing. The problems with our economy have put allot of people out of work and have hurt many more in the wallet. Food is going to be expensive and harder to get. Natural disasters seem to be in an incline and well heck everything is going under. The first thing that uneducated people do is cry for the governments help, then they ( the people ) wonders why the government does what it does. We’ve forgotten what it means to be a people to stand up for our rights. The government is training for the possibility of riots due to everything failing ( economy etc.) we need to start to depend on ourselves again, or its the government way or the highway. I am a strategist believe me this is what they are doing.

I’m requesting that everyone who has read or heard about the up-coming Iowa Army National Guard training it will conduct, to write-email their State’s Governors, State and Federal Representatives, and call and write to each State’s National Guard Adjutant Generals office that this type of training has no place within the States and within the Nation. Also, bombard all the newspapers, and media outlets within the state of Iowa to discourage its citizens to role play as participants in this training exercise.
The type of training to be conducted has nothing to do with protecting the lives of citizens;it is a clear and absolute infringement on the Second Amendment, and unlawful search and seizures whether voluntary or imposed.
Mesasge to all military personnel: This type of so-called training is not what you enlisted or took the Oath of Office for. Please get a copy of the Constitution, read, study, and ask questions about it. Also, it would be a good idea to bring back the Loyalty Oath to the United States.
It pains me as a retired soldier to comment about this matter; however, as members of the US Armed Forces we must understand that we serve our nation and its people as its protector-not its ruler.

2006: On the Eve of the Midterm Elections, PCA Nullified
Recently, Congress passed a controversial bill which grants the President the right to commandeer Federal or even state National Guard Troops and use them inside the United States. This bill, entitled the John Warner Defense Appropriation Act for Fiscal Year 2007 (H.R. 5122.ENR), contains a provision, (Section 1076) which allows the President to:
“…employ the armed forces, including the National Guard in Federal service, to…
restore public order and enforce the laws of the United States when, as a result of a natural disaster, epidemic, or other serious public health emergency, terrorist attack or incident, or other condition in any State or possession of the United States…, where the President determines that,…domestic violence has occurred to such an extent that the constituted authorities of the State or possession are incapable of maintaining public order;
suppress, in a State, any insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy…” [3]
Senator Patrick Leahy and others have condemned Section 1076 because it effectively nullifies the Posse Comitatus Act and the Insurrection Act (10 U.S.C. 331-335) and gives the President the legal ability to define under what conditions martial law may be declared. [4]
H.R.5122 was signed into law by President Bush on October 17, 2006, and will take effect October 1, 2007 (unless an earlier effective date is established by regulation). “On the same day, Bush signed the Military Commissions Act of 2006, which abolishes the legal protection of habeas corpus, authorizes the president to detain and jail anyone (even US citizens) without charge and subject them to harsh interrogation that may or may not involve torture.” [5]

Very interesting reading. I don’t necessarily agree with how some ideas are expressed, but I have been sworn to fight to the death, your right to say them. Somewhere in the responses, Barbara, I believe it was, suggested that you write your Congressman and Senators. which I advocate highly.
I also advocate that anyone who is not a member of the NRA or the Second Amendment Foundation, now is the time to join, and recruit as many members as you can, they count. I am a Constitutionalist and a fan of Thomas Jefferson who said: “The strongest reason for the people to retain and keep the right to keep and bear arms is, as a LAST (emphasis added) resort to protect themselves against tyrany in government.” He also said: “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of Patriots and tyrants.” It is yet too early. I also have faith in CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY. In two years there is an election coming up. It is the time to get involved and know who it is we are hiring (electing) to represent us in the Congress. Become Polical Activists for the cause. but be civil. The opposition is always looking for something (or anything) to use against us. Also interesting to note is that this mornings newspaper reported that Pakistan is going to arm civilians and our government supports it. For anyone who is not educated you should read “The Creature From Jekyll Island” author Griffin. It explains the history of money and corruptness. The other book is the Bible…Genesis and the story of Ishmael and Isaac. This conflict of the Muslim and Jewish lineage date back to ancient times and is still going on today. There are supposedly more non God believers in the world than believers. Theoretically there will never be true peace until after the end times where all evil will be wiped out. Some people believe we are in the end times now.
I believe in God, but I do not believe it is my job to thump someone over the head with a Bible. I try to lead by good example. I abhor violence, but if someone comes to my door I will protect myself and my family. Our government is too big and it’s only real job is to protect it’s people…not pretend to create jobs and make us go broke. The NWO is expediting it’s goals quite rapidly. In CA they are cutting off much of our water for the farmers. The health plans are cutting off the elderly to cut expenses. The Rockefellers were in charge of population control…now I believe Mr. Gates has some business in that field. The Super Highway that will split the U.S. is probably a strategic plan to more quickly divide the U.S. as planned. Gun control is very important to the Gov’s plans. Getting the word out is the best way to let the world know what is going on. Let’s contact that Iowa town’s Chamber of Commerce and see what they have to say. The National Guard can be deployed anywhere in the world. Barack Obama has put a bill through asking that the soldiers pledge allegiance to him and not the U.S. Several thousand inmates are going to be let free to cut expenses soon. I think all of you need to get your facts straight. Most of us here in the Carroll and Arcadia areas support our troops and by no means minded having the excercise done in our town. We welcomed it. These people are our own local heroes who have fought for our rights overseas. If this is the kind of training they need to help us keep our freedom, then so be it. None of the comments or threats made to local police, our local papers, or our local government were from anyone in this area. In fact, 99% of the commnets weren’t even made by fellow Iowans. I think that shows how blown out of proportion the situation got. Read the facts before you make yourselves look like idiots.

Ok folks, I think you guys may be jumping off the deep end just a bit. It might help for a little background. Before that, I must say that anytime the military is conducting operations in a civilian setting there is cause for concern and its certainly good for a town and everyone here to voice that concern.
The National Guard is composed of civilian soldiers who serve 1 weekend per month and 2 weeks per year, or 8 months of combat duty in Iraq or Afganistan. Prior to the first gulf war, the National Guard was meant to provide relief to local civilians during times of natural distasters. Since the first gulf war, the National Guard has been deployed to combat and expected to perform the same missions that the regular army is doing, and get shot at while doing it. Unfortunatley, additional funding for training has NOT been provided, and since these guys are civilian volunteers, they don’t get to train 7 days a week 365 like their regular army conterparts. They have jobs and homes and probably live on your block.
So, we have a situation where people who server their country, and live and work in your town, who go to work, who are composed of everyone from your local car mechanic to your hometown doctors are expected to go into combat in support this country. They are expected to perform missions in combat situations with only 2 weeks a year and 1 weekend per month of training with virtually no training budget.
According to a friend of mine who has been in the Guard for 20+ years, the mission described here is to the letter what they are doing in Iraq to root out insurgents. He states that they are always looking for creative ways to train, and at the same time stay close to home (they all have to be back at work on Monday morning), and do it within miniscule budgets which often don’t provide enough gas money for the trucks.
So, from an inside perspective, this whole thing was nothing more than a company or battalion level decision to try use local resources to train their guys and increase the chances of each and everyone of them coming home from a combat tour. They made some really bad PR decisions and chose their words poorly, but these guys are soldiers, not PR specialicists.
Now, having said all that, just because their is a rational expectation does not mean that there is not a conspiracy. But if there there is a sinister motive, it is coming from much higher up the chain of command. If the higher ups do have a sinisister motive, the National Guard is probably the least likely branch to lfollow illegal and unconstitutional orders since these guys tend to be pretty conservative, and actually have to go home and live next door to you guys.
Bottom line, if you don’t want this happening, speak up. It works and it did work in this case, they backed off. But you might want to consider directing some of the rage back to the politicians who are putting your friends and neighbors into combat without proper resources for training.

THis is the small towns way of trying to help OUR HOME GROWN TROOPS THAT WE CARE FOR. We are trying to help them so that maybe, just maybe the training could save one of there lives in the line of duty. They were after a arms deeler, they were asking someone to act as one, they are not going to kick down doors and strom the towm they are asking for people to allow them to train as if they were doing that. Pull your heads out of your asses and look at the positive in life for once instead of thinking everyone is out to get you. We are good people in iowa who try and help out our own and you people dont feel as if we should help.

Wow. Too bad Alpha won’t get to do the level of training they’ll need when they start chasing hadji around trying to disrupt the Tali arms circuits in the sandbox. Too bad so many folks think that it’s there job to tell Iowa, a sovereign state, how to run their biznets. Ryan, the original poster had it right – butt out. The reason that Alpha is doing this is that sometime in the pretty damned near future, these boys (probably mostly farm kids from the western IA area) are gonna be up to their heads in the crap in Afghanistan. This has less to do with taking away our rights than it does giving our boys a chance to work a problem in a realistic environment. I’ve got an idea. Let’s load them up with sim rounds and let them deal with the perceived threats presented by all the beards and camo that will be there in April. It’s probably gonna look like the tali’s came to visit, all that’ll be missing is the turbans on top of the beards.

And for all you clowns that think that this really has anything to do with searching for illegal weapons dealers in the US, think about the fact that Alpha is sure as shit gonna be looking for illegal weapons distributors and caches in the little shytbox shacks in hadjiland. This is bending the law. If Posse Comitatus is revoked we are all screwed.
The Posse Comitatus Act is a United States federal law (18 U.S.C. § 1385) passed on June 16, 1878 after the end of Reconstruction, with the intention (in concert with the Insurrection Act of 1807) of substantially limiting the powers of the federal government to use the military for law enforcement. The Act prohibits most members of the federal uniformed services (today the Army, Air Force, and State National Guard forces when such are called into federal service) from exercising nominally state law enforcement, police, or peace officer powers that maintain “law and order” on non-federal property (states and their counties and municipal divisions) in the former Confederate states.
The statute generally prohibits federal military personnel and units of the National Guard under federal authority from acting in a law enforcement capacity within the United States, except where expressly authorized by the Constitution or Congress. The Coast Guard is exempt from the Act.
