Editor’s note: Bush was correct when he mounted the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier on May 1, 2003: the neocons pulled off a “Mission Accomplished” in Iraq — a mission to kill over a million Iraqis, destroy the country, and destabilize the Middle East, all of it described as bringing “democracy” to benighted Arabs. It is a mission still underway as the U.S. puppets in Baghdad crank up tensions with Syria, another target on the list of nations to be destroyed.
Iraq has begun stationing thousands of extra police on the border with Syria, saying they will prevent foreign fighters from entering the country to carry out attacks.
Nouri al-Maliki, the Iraqi prime minister, has accused Syria of providing a haven for fighters and tensions between the two neighbours have risen in recent weeks.
Major-General Tariq Yusuf, the police chief of western Iraq’s Anbar province which borders Syria, said on Friday: “These are the emergency forces for the borders … to fill in the gaps.”
He said al-Maliki had ordered the deployment personally.
Al-Maliki has said that 90 per cent of foreign fighters entering Iraq arrive via Syria, including fighters he blames for two bomb attacks that killed nearly 100 people outside ministries in Baghdad in August.
