Despite NATO airstrikes and resistance from the Iraqi army, Islamic State militants are within one mile of Baghdad, Iraq’s capital, according to a charity organization based in the city.
The fall of Baghdad, a city of seven million, would greatly destabilize the Middle East, which has already suffered immense chaos as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria conquers vast amounts of territory while beheading Christians and others refusing to submit to Sharia Law.
“The Islamic State are now less than 2km away from entering Baghdad,” the Foundation for Relief and Reconciliation in the Middle East reported, and one mile is equivalent to 1.6km. “They said it could never happen and now it almost has.”
“Obama says he overestimated what the Iraqi army could do. Well, you only need to be hear a very short while to know they can do very, very little.”
