The way events played out yesterday did not stir the political leadership into thinking of stopping the ground offensive and moving toward a cease-fire. On the contrary, Israel is moving toward a decision to occupy the whole Gaza Strip.

The message yesterday from Jerusalem was that it is impossible to end Operation Cast Lead without an achievement, and if in the next two days there is no satisfactory diplomatic solution, Israel will have to broaden the operation.
“Broadening the operation” could mean moving from house to house as in Operating Defensive Shield in 2002 in the West Bank, aiming to kill or capture as many Hamas fighters as possible. Or it could mean surrounding Gaza City, similar to the way the Egyptian Third Army was cut off in 1973, or like the siege of Beirut in 1982, until Hamas’ leaders emerge from their hideouts with their hands up. This could take several weeks.
Political sources are denying reports of a disagreement at the top over the future of the operation, and insist that Ehud Olmert, Ehud Barak and Tzipi Livni are united in their understanding that under the current circumstances Israel should continue until there are diplomatic gains. Other sources say there are problems. Barak believes that rejecting the French offer for a cease-fire last week was a mistake that made Israel miss a good opportunity to end the operation; now he wants to go on. Olmert, according to some reports, is pushing for a broadening of the offensive. Livni is worried that any international developments may grant Hamas legitimacy.

I’m just going to compress my previous posts into one in order to summarize my thoughts on this issue:
I have a message to Israel. You see, the way the rest of the NORMAL, MAINSTREAM world does things is this: We can hold any religious beliefs we want and get along fine with each other. But we keep it PERSONAL.
Don’t base the foreign policy of your government on your belief that you are “God’s chosen people”, let alone go to war because your religion says you can. It makes the rest of the world think you are a nation of arrogant douchebags, and rightly so.
For f---’s sakes, I probably wouldn’t feel as strongly about this as I do if you Zionist supporters support the war in Gaza because of rational national self interest instead of because “God says we can.”
Let me put it this way: if I was POTUS and my religion said that I couldn’t perform cloning, for instance, but the majority of America supported doing so, I wouldn’t veto a pro-cloning bill. Why? When it comes to politics and religion, you’re supposed to be schizophrenic. The duties of the office are more important than your personal religious beliefs. Sorry if that sounds strange, but that’s just the way the civilized world rolls.
Similarly, on the international stage, you’re supposed to take actions that are in the rational self interest of the state or non-state actor you represent. You’re NOT supposed to act as a nation and then justify those acts with “the Bible told me to.”
Why are Zionists so blind to something so self-evident?
HERE’s an unusual idea. End the siege of Gaza. Better yet, just leave the area. You have no right to be there. And please don’t cite something that happened 2000 years ago. Territories shifted around and borders got so jumbled since the days of the Roman Empire that you should really just forget about staking any claim of legitimacy of the State of Israel on all this “God’s homeland” rhetoric.
I really don’t care where the Palestinians came from or if they are Muslim or not. They could be pagans or atheists or Zoroastrian for all I care. Fact is, they were there first and the Zionists did not create their nation in any historically legitimate manner, namely either:
A) Purchasing the land from the nation that owns the territory;
B) Going to war with the nation that owns the territory and then forcing the concession of that territory through negotiations (I am not talking about the Six-Day War or Yom Kippur or any of that; I’m referring to the actual birth of the State of Israel);
or
C) outright conquering of the territory through armed conflict.
Instead, they just ran to the UN and arbitrarily displaced those already living there. Therefore, the State of Israel is not legitimate.
I’ve seen very few actual racist comments on the issue. Can anyone explain to me why being an anti-Zionist automatically makes one an anti-Semite?
Are the majority of Zionists really this insane this or is it just a cynical debating tactic?
I’m inclined to think it’s a combination of the two, with more emphasis placed on the former.

Palestinians are not Arabs, by their own admission they are decendants of the ancient Philistines, who are originally from the Mediterranean islands of Greece. They were widely known as thieving war mongers, who invaded Egypt around 1100 BC, but were repulsed by Ramses III, and then they invaded various kingdoms in the MIddle East. They were defeated numerous times, the more notable defeats occured at the hands of Israel, like when the boy David killed their warrior giant Goliath.
When they showed up in the Holy Land, Isreal had already left Egypt and was well settled in their God-given land. So the Palestinians/Philistines have NO CLAIM WHAT-SO-EVER to the Holy Land.

OK, let’s suppose for a second that Israel didn’t provoke this by their siege.
On top of all the conventional low-collateral damage options Israel has available to it (e.g. special forces killing/kidnapping Hamas leaders, sniper assassinations, Mossad infiltration, etc.), Israel could take many other courses of action.
Israel has always been a pioneer–in fact, for many years the leader–in UAV development ever since they used them in the Bekaa Valley in 1982. Today Israel is fielding the Elbit Hermes 450. These could easily patrol not just Palestine but the whole country. Since “persistence” is one of the key advantages of UAVs, any rocket launchers, Hamas leaders etc. could be instantly targeted and killed when they present themselves, as we have demonstrated with our armed Predator and MQ-1 Reaper UAVs.

Strategically it doesn’t make much sense to fire rockets at civilians who are backed by awesome weaponry. Giving Israel any sort of pseudo-legitimate reason to attack prevents complete international condemnation of israel. All attacks against an oppressor must have clear effective goals which are feasible. Otherwise it is a waste of energy and as useful as submission or suicide and inhumane to all people involved whether israeli, or palestinian, self, or one’s people. If all you know you’ll accomplish is at best, the death of a passive supporter and the rage and wrath of your enemies you’re just a stupid reckless murderer. Even if your cause was justified.

I would prefer to support the CIVILIANS.
- Israel, one of the most advanced military powers on earth, doesn’t need any support from anyone for decimating the very poor, uneducated palestinians… I bet mossad alone could pull this one off on a couple hour notice.
- I also don’t think the angry-about-something idiots in Palestine throwing fireworks at Israel deserve any kind of support. They are very clearly messing with the wrong people, and knowingly putting their civilians at risk.
