The Labour Party’s Sadiq Khan became London’s first Muslim mayor early Friday after beating out Conservative opponent Zac Goldsmith.
Khan, a 45 year old London-born son of Pakistani parents, is the first Muslim mayor of a major Western capital city.
Replacing Boris Johnson, who served as mayor for 8 years, Khan’s victory has already sent social media ablaze. According to
“There were some minor discrepancies with the Mayoral figures and we have to take the time to check them. We are doing this in conjunction with the Electoral Commission. We are working towards an announcement at around midnight.”
Although liberals have brushed off all criticism as “Islamaphobia,” Khan has been repeatedly accused of having connections to radical extremists.
As reported by The Telegraph, Khan was forced to apologize recently after using slurs against moderate Muslims.
“Sadiq Khan was accused of being unfit to become London’s next mayor after footage emerged of him describing moderate Muslims of being ‘Uncle Toms,'” the article states.
Other news outlets have similarly linked Khan to extremism through questionable statements and relationships.
