The mastermind behind the biggest Ponzi scheme in U.S. history was sentenced on Monday morning to 150 years behind bars, the maximum requested by federal prosecutors.
Madoff confessed in March to 11 counts including fraud, money laundering and perjury, among other things.
Many of Madoff’s wealthy clients lived in South Florida and lost their life savings to his scheme.

hell yeah its great to finally see the rich crooks get screwed but if you follow the pattern of people who do this and get away with it verse the ones that dont I doubt he is connected. The real story here is that Bush staffed the SEC full of clowns and buffoons, intentionally, in order to manipulate the markets for his base of wealthy investors that got him into power in the first place.
The SEC is so completely inept, they did not “see” madoff’s ponzi scheme, despite having been informed about every detail of illegal activity for nearly 10 years.
This guy deserves jail time, but he is a distraction from the real news story here: The markets are no longer protected. The regulatory body overseeing investors can no longer stop hedge funds and wealthy investors from fomenting a change in stock price, and arbitraging the volatility that they themselves create.
In other words, the game is rigged.
