An Islamist Web site claimed yesterday that Ayman al-Zawahri is the new leader of al-Qaeda following the departure of Osama bin Laden, who was supposedly killed after Obama issued orders to rub him out last month. The government and the corporate media now take the reported death of the former CIA asset as a foregone conclusion despite the fact the Pentagon provided zero evidence that it assassinated him.

“The general leadership of al-Qaeda group, after the completion of consultation, announces that Sheikh Dr. Ayman Zawahiri, may God give him success, has assumed responsibility for command of the group,” the Islamist Web site Ansar al-Mujahidin (Followers of the Holy Warriors) said in a statement, according to the Taipei Times.

Zawahiri ‘s whereabouts are unknown, although he has long been thought to be hiding along the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. The United States is offering a $25 million reward for any information leading to his capture or conviction.

Former US intelligence officer Robert Ayers said about Zawahiri that the “only thing his promotion will accomplish is to elevate his priority as a target for the US.”

Zawahiri was one of a number of groomed assets who visited the country he has vowed to destroy. He visited the al-Kifah Refugee Center in Brooklyn in 1989 and made a trip to raise funds for the NATO-CIA war in the Balkans in 1993. He was known as a leader of Islamic Jihad – responsible for the assassination of Anwar Sadat – and al-Qaeda’s second-in-command, but was allowed to enter the country despite this.

The Muslim Brotherhood was instrumental in the creation of Egypt’s Islamic Jihad. The CIA has worked with the Muslim Brotherhood since at least 1955 in an effort to destroy Arab nationalism. “Prior to World War II British Intelligence cultivated ties with the Brotherhood through agent Freya Stark, the British adventurer and writer,” writes Peter Goodgame. “The Muslim Brotherhood spread throughout the Muslim world and has evolved into something like a Muslim equivalent of the West’s Masonic brotherhood. It became one of the first Islamic Fundamentalist terror organizations.”
