The in-person poll, taken during August and September, sampled 1,004 Mexicans across the country on subjects related to illegal immigration and amnesty in the United States.
When asked “Should the primary loyalty of Mexican-Americans be to Mexico or to the U.S.?” 68.8 percent of respondents in Mexico said that it should be to Mexico, while only 19.7 percent said it should be to the United States. Another 11.5 percent of respondents said they were not sure.

This is a non-story. It is cultural to have loyalty to your people and country of origin no matter what condition there country is in. Thus why people who live here and make millions in sports still go back home and represent their country during world or olympic games. This country was founded on immigrants, stop bashing them.

First of, I am of Mexican decent, I am an American not a “Mexican-American” this title is ignorant in itself, it polarizes Americans of Mexican decent form it’s home country (America). I find this title to be racist and predjudical. I hate it!
I am an American, I love my constitution and my country.
Second, I have worked with Mexican’s in an automotive contracted industry and here is what people like me get from them: You are not Mexican, you can’t speak spanish then you are ashamed to be mexican, you are not proud to be Mexican, pocho (deragatory term for American of Mexican decent).
So my reply was, you are just jealous that you were not fortunate enough to be born in such a great counrty like I was…also, I am an American, not Mexican so yes, you are right, I am not proud to be a Mexican I am proud to be an American!
I write these criminals off and the idea of what this articles headline reads made me laugh till boogers shot out of my nose! Who the fuck do they think they are???? They can go fuck themselves and their country, you know what? THEY CAN SUCK IT! and so can the politicians that allow them to cross the boarders our fight should be with them to force them to do our bidding! But you know and I know, this is the way to make us a North American Union. Our politicians are traitors to us The Citizens of the Unitied States of America.

i can’t speak for anyone else but at times i do harbor some ill feelings towards illegals, however they are not solely to blame.If you can not control your border you deserve to have your sovereignty violated so any country that does not have the will to enforce its own laws deserves to get overrun.
I also think that most Americans can agree that we don’t mind having immigrants.I think what gets people hot is that they see our police and politicians just outright do not care to bother with illegals.
It effects our economy in unforeseen ways. Second i don’t like the fact that illegals have to hide and sneak in here to be here.That just makes them seem criminal and That is not the image that United States and freedom brings.This breeds problems. Yeah, this is paranoia to an extreme. I’m of Mexican descent, but consider myself an American. Never in my life have I heard a naturalized or natural born US citizen of Mexican descent declare his/her loyalty to Mexico over the US. Are you kidding me! Most first generation Mexicans born in the US don’t even speak Spanish fluently or correctly. I spent many years studying Spanish (and three other Romance languages) so that I could speak Spanish without shame to native speakers. One can be a US patriot and still be proud of one’s other cultural heritage. Stop demonizing those of Mexican descent living here in this country.

You seem to have misunderstood the article. It was not talking to those people outside of this country as your example says, the question was asked to the people while they were here as residents. At least it alluded to that rather than just visiting people from Mexico. When in a particular place it is generally because you should like the place and therefore be loyal to it. To say that you are not? That seems to be meaning something rather threatening to the host.
Of course maybe the question could have been defined slightly better, but the meaning of it should have been realized. If it were talking about ethnicity, then of course their answer was appropriate, but it was talking about residence.

Equal you say? Hm. Of course it depends what the circumstance is, but believe me on this also. There IS A DIFFERENCE between men and women and I let my men know that. Most women know that and split their interpretation with facts not knowing how to balance them, but the ones who do, you guys look for them in magazines and other places such as the internet.
If it helps, I cannot remember which female it was on television, but I was watching or maybe listening to the radio some time ago when I heard that woman say something like “growing a set of balls” also. Took me back for a second even though the human body and needs are a specialty knowledge of mine. There are certain phrases that have a shock affect at times depending upon where they are said…..and yes, by my very own comments around this place, it is a hard core place and phrases like that are acceptable.
With that being said, the next time you are in my area of the world, we might meet and can discuss “balls” at that time in person after a nice candlelit dinner. Yes?

Ths is a very simple fact about Mexicans and their culture that Liberal gringos don’t want to face. Mexicans have a deeply engrained sense of their own identity. In their culture the “US” and “gringos” don’t play a positive role. Most Mexicans do not come to America to be like us or to be our friends. If they could have it their way all of us “gringos” would just pack up and leave.
Allowing Mexicans into the US in mass numbers is a terrible mistake that will lead to chaos in the future. Mexicans may live among us, but they are not us, and they are not on our side.

Hey I have to say something I am amazed of what these previous replies have exposed, but no one has said that in the most recent years the government has put way too much attention into immigration which is good for a government to care. I am a college student I was brought here from mexico since I was 3yrs of age, I am a captain in my ROTC detachment and I have a 110 % loyalty for this country. I am willing to give more than an average American my age would give. But I have to disagree with this “fear of lack of loyalty to america” thing. First of all I think that the term mexican american is such a racist remark I mean gosh why do people care anyways about what the “mexican american” thinks its not like he or she is gonna start doing something against the american people. Many of the mexican american people say they are mexican because of their culture its like the Irish americans many say they are Irish, but yet we dont see a huge article about it here in this website. I dont see the Army or the Marines doubting the loyalty about the Mexican americans actively serving yet many of them say they are Mexicans, I say this because i see it often in my Field Training Exercises. If we want to doubt peoples loyalty lets doubt all of the mixed americans like the Chinese, Arabs, Jewish, etc… and twice more the people of our govt, because I find it hard to belive that most Americans cant pass the citizenship test given by our own government. To end it up I want to tell all my little hillbillies and extremists with their “boomsticks” out there no matter what you say I will be getting fired upon, for your little ass in the future. so if you have something to say make sure is useful.

I was born in America as both my parents were as well. I`ve always considered myself a fully assimilated American, as that is all I have ever known. My parents never spoke spanish to us at home because they felt it was important for us to be American like everyone else. I was born in San Antonio, but have lived all around the country having served in the armed forces for 9 of my early aduthood life. I`ve never felt any alliance with Mexico, as I never lived there nor do I now. I`ve never gone around calling myself Mexican or Mexican American, But every place I`ve ever been I`ve always been asked about my nationality since I have Dark skin and am obviously not white. People have always called me a Mexican and or felt a need to remind me of my Mexican heritage, as though I am not aware of it or something. White people usually don`t go around calling each other Germans, or Irishmen, or whatever sir country they`ve come from, and they have all come from somewhere else. I guess in summation, it`s not that Mexican americans have sort of allegiance to Mexico, it`s more that other Americans sometimes have a hard time just calling you what you are. AMERICAN!!! Just like them!!

The question is regarding loyalty, exactly what does that mean? One can always love their home country, why not? They should not be asked to denounce it. When you become a citizen of a different country such as the US then your loyalty should be to that country, otherwise why did you become a citizen, just to get better perks than you had in your home country? If that was the only reason, go back.
