A group of Taliban suicide bombers attack several government buildings in the troubled eastern Afghanistan, killing nine and injuring 16 others.

[efoods]Nearly a dozen Taliban suicide bombers detonated their explosive-laden vehicles close to municipal building and the provincial governor’s office in eastern Khost city.

Medics said that hospitals had received the dead bodies of clinicians and Afghan national police forces, adding that wounded were mostly civilians.

The deadly raids were also followed by pitched-battles and it took several hours for the Afghan forces to overpower the insurgents.

The US-led troops were also ambushed by the militants in the region following the lethal attacks, sources said.

This is while the US-led coalition forces have lost their control over most of the regions across the troubled southern and eastern Afghanistan.

The worsening security situation has prompted US President Barack Obama to assign 21,000 soldiers to the Afghanistan-based contingents.

The upsurge in violence continues seven and half years after the US invaded the country to allegedly destroy Taliban and al-Qaeda and bring stability to the volatile region.

Human rights groups have accused both the US troops and the Taliban insurgents of committing war crimes across war-ravaged Afghanistan.
