Mississippi County Mulls “Terror Insurance”

PASCAGOULA — Along with property, wind and liability insurance, Jackson County leaders will take a look Monday at terrorism insurance coverage on the county’s 100 buildings.

“It’s relatively cheap, we will definitely consider it,” said Board of Supervisors President John McKay. “It’s cheaper than earthquake insurance.”

Earthquake coverage was something the board kicked around before deciding not to sign on. Because no matter how cheap it is, there needs to be a certain amount of risk to make it worthwhile, county leaders have said.

“But if something unforeseen happened and someone blew up the courthouse, how you going to pay for it?” McKay said.
