Missouri Grade School Girl Arrested for “Cyberbullying” Website

Editor’ note: According to Wired, the girl was arrested after she was disciplined by school officials. The case has been turned over to juvenile court prosecutors who will determine if the teen will be charged with a crime.

A ninth grade girl in the Troy, Mo., school district has been disciplined after authorities said she created a website to bully another girl.

School officials would not comment on what kind of discipline she received, but under the district’s bullying policy it could range from loss of privileges to expulsion.

The school district alerted the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department after the victim in the case went to the principal about the website, which has since been taken down, spokeswoman April Huddleston said today. The name of the website had the girl’s name and explicit language. It included photos, comments and a poll about the girl.

Sheriff’s Lt. Andy Binder told reporter Joel Currier this morning that investigators arrested a ninth-grade girl, who confessed to creating the website.
