Over 50,000 Moldovans have rallied in the capital Chisinau demanding the government resign and early elections.
The protesters thronged the capital following an appeal by a new mass organisation called ‘Dignity and Justice’ civil platform.
The protesters are calling for the resignation of president Nicolae Timofti over a USD 1 billion bank fraud that has hit living standards in a country already considered Europe’s poorest.

They ( the authorities) were not affected by a stolen billion. The people have become the main victim. And now they are surprised. “How is it possible that the victim got angry?” Yes, the people woke up and firmly decided to get their country back, to get this billion back and bring to justice the guilty ones,” said Valentin Dolganiuc, member of ‘Dignity and Justice’ civil platform addressing the crowd.
