| Now that the global warming myth has been discharged, one would hope that these highly dangerous products would fade into oblivion, but they will not. | |
Touted as a way to “save the world” the spiral fluoresent bulbs are set to replace the incandescent light bulb in Britain, the Telegraph reports. As part of a “voluntary ban,” an intiative of the Nanny State, retailers are no longer replenishing their stock of the 100 watt low-tech incandescent bulbs in favor of the “compact fluorescent light” (CFL) bulbs. All incandescent bulbs are set to be “phased out” in both America and Europe by 2012. This forced change is spreading around the world – Cuba has already banned incandescent bulbs, Venezuela is trying, and so is Canada, although in America the change is coming slower.
The changeover comes despite that is inside each CFL and the lack of disposal options and the danger that is present if the bulb is ever broken.
If a bulb burns out, in some areas consumers must call a special service to come and retrieve the bulbs instead of putting them in the regular household garbage where they can break open at the landfil and leach the 5 mg of mercury powder contained in it into the groundwater. The bulbs cannot yet be recycled because there is no set protocol or safe mechanism for processing CFLs at local recycling facilities.
This inconvenience, in addition to risk the toxic poison mercury inside poses to consumers, are the “inconvenient truths” that Al Gore and others have cleverly kept hidden when the all-out marketing campaign went online for these new swirly bulbs. There is a warning on the back of the packaging, but few people bother to look at that, and even less are aware of the proper disposal method.
Breaking one CFL bulb could cost thousands to have an environmental hazardous material company clean it up. And it is especially dangerous if the householder tries to clean up the mess themselves – vacuuming causes the mercury powder to be distributed throughout the area instead of being limited to just one room. And the Maine Department of of Environmental Protection has released a report (.pdf) indicating that the mercury vapor from one broken bulb emits over 300 times the accepted level of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Mercury is a heavy metal that is toxic and cannot be effectively flushed from the body by natural processes. It causes brain damage, pools in vital organs such as heart, liver, brain as well as being distributed into the hair and skin. It also causes central nervous system damage, and migraines can be triggered by CFLs as well as causing nausea paid and dizziness for Lupus sufferers.
Now that the “global warming” myth has been discharged, one would hope that these highly dangerous products would fade into oblivion, but they will not. The campaign has just changed its name but the goal remains the same – make everyone change their lifestyle, eliminate their choices and alternatives and achieve a lowering of living standards. Because we’re constantly told that humans are bad and a cancer upon the earth, but mercury contamination is worse.

CFL’s dont compare to the efficiency of LED bulbs that are out now

We just have no say or control here in Britain anymore!!.

I will NOT give up my incandescent bulbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will HOARD the heck out of them. Already begun.
January 8th, 2009 at 12:05 pm
CFLs are totally safe. There is nothing to worry about. I mean, if mercury is safe enough to put in vaccines, than it is definitely safe in bulbs.
In other words, it’s fake environmentalism.
January 8th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
these bulbs hurt my eyes. the lights in my basement hang low, everyone that goes down there ends up breaking one over there head. anyone that starts hoarding them, let me know, I would like to place a future order now
January 8th, 2009 at 12:18 pm
Don’t believe the hype.
January 8th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
They’ll worry about mercury in a light bulb but put it in vaccines. What a bunch of idiots.
January 8th, 2009 at 12:37 pm
I had thought that I would wait until 2011 to stock up on incandesent bulbs. Now I see the flaw in that plan. I will buy some this weekend.
Are light bulbs more efficient in the winter when the heat is needed to warm the house?

remember the old CRT computer monitors ? … 98 % complained of headaches and tension they caused … from EMFs ( electromagnetic fields) ? billions upon billions in medical costs to the public…untold amount of misery/stress …. the swirly bulbs will cause that sort of misery…those types senstive ( migrainers, chronic fatigue, some children) that have tried them quickly figured that out.

Bush told us the terrorists hate us for our freedoms. With this and other nanny state proposals, it’s clear who the terrorists were all along: the US and UK governments.
January 8th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
The truth is, CFL’s are 5-10 more inefficient to make, counteracting the efficiency on your hydro bill. It just cancels it out.
Then, the fact that the majority of people will just throw them in the trash rather than take the more inconvenient route of calling a disposal company, which will pollute the earth regardless.
What a freakin joke!!

What about LED bulbs??? Aren’t these much more efficient and safer than the fluorecent?
January 8th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
I made an observation.
The other day my friend and I had a discussion on how we found out about infowars dot com. He said he saw on his $ paper money “INFOWARS.COM” written on both sides. The letters were written on the edges (the empty spaces) as to not deface the paper money, yet prominent enough to get the person to check it out. Incidentally I found out about infowars on £ paper money in the exact same way!
Probably what the forefathers would be doing in our situation to wake people up (including ASKING OTHERS to do the same thing on the paper money too). As I said, it’s just an observation; I am not saying I am doing it myself nor am I asking others to do it.
January 8th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
I believe LEDs are too inexpensive and efficient to produce and wouldn’t make anyone any money. Not sure though… just a gut feeling?
January 8th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
The article says the CFL bulbs cannot yet be recycled, however in my area there are CFL recycle bins at Ikea, Whole Foods and Ace Hardware. Hmm.

January 8th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
Thanks for the link to that video, Dreadly03 — a real eye-opener. Now I wonder about the straight flurorescent tubes in the ceiling fixtures — should we be concerned about UV emissions from them? Obviously the special ones for growing plants indoors would by design be putting out UV, but what about the others?
Geez, more shit to worry about!

January 8th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
i support the use of this bulb not for enviromental reasons but i save 100-200 dollars a year on my Light bill
i also switched my parents lights in the entire house and they save 100 dollars a month compared to my well i live in a Much smaller home
what i dont like about the bulb is they contain murcury
but if your vary careful and dont brake the bulb the murcury stays safly in the Glass tube
and also there are place you can take these bulbs at the end of there usefullness that will recycle them and safely resuse the murcury gas store it and re use it
and the amount of murcury give you an idea you get more Murcury from eating one 1lb fish from Maine inland waters then is contained in this bulb
and responce to number 22 you need to get a bulb that is a lower frequency if you got a headache you got it from the High contrast bulb try a low contrast bulb
i too got headaches from the High contrast bulbs but i switched to Low contrast CFL and they produce the same amount and type as a tupe A 100 watt bulb
January 8th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
but to add to my last post
noone should be Forced to use this bulb it should be FREE will
choice
January 8th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
SUZ #21 Go and follow the so-called ‘recycled’ bulb trail.
I’ll bet you any amount they are ‘recycling’ these Hg vapor bulbs right into your landfill.
January 8th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
oh you got a plasma TV that Nickel Cathride light is Loaded with a metal that is more toxic then murcury
LED lights Contain Hevy metals all toxic to humans
got a laptop then you have more murcury in that screen to Pollute all the great lakes to a toxic level any Flat screen computer flat screen Digital camera screens
contain more lead Murcury then is needed to destroy an entire lake

I like coming to this site and reading news articles, but lately I have noticed that articles written by writers for Infowars usually contain several typos. I’m not trying to bitch, but typos and misspellings by a journalist just make the writer seem unreliable. I realize these writers probably have a lot to do, but a good read over once before they publish to catch these mistakes clearly seems in order. I already have enough to deal with being called crazy when I talk to people about NWO and try to inform them, but then to direct them to this site and have them say the articles contain typos just discredits the site. In this short article alone I found two misspelled words. TAKE YOUR TIME INFOWARS JOURNALISTS WE WILL STILL ALL BE HERE TO READ YOUR ARTICLES IF THEY AREN’T HERE AS PROMPT BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO PROOF READ YOUR ARTICLE BEFORE IT GOES TO PUBLISH.
January 8th, 2009 at 7:14 pm
Exactly what fed up said..
This is nearly assinine to expect people to buy into a story with typos. Especially when you direct others here, as Fed said.

Those bulbs are crap! They don’t last anywhere you would turn the light on /off for a short period of time, like a bathroom. And they just did a special on TV, some people are allergic to the light. Not to mention all the mercury that will contaminate the various places these bulbs end up. If one breaks in your house you are technically supposed to leave.
January 8th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
Answer is simple, require manufacturers to make the bulbs unbreakable and charge a hefty deposit insuring they get recycled.
January 8th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
thanx for the info.

The recent explosion of trolls on the message boards has inspired me to make donations to infowars. You dumb shit trolls are so easy to spot even when you think your being crafty. For the next month Each time I see a post from a troll I pledge to buy $50 of dvd’s and and donate another $50 in money orders to infowars.
I will send $100 for each troll message and mail the orders in once a week.

You all are a bunch of nuts! Your savior, Alex Jones always, and I mean everyday quotes some article or web-site reciting facts and says “google it, go look it up” all the while he could just say what the site address is. Yet he doesn’t, because the article as well as the facts don’t exist! Get a life and get into the real world. I love his show because it is so entertaining and he is the best I have ever seen when it comes to coming off as scholarly, yet he is not! Please keep the entertainent coming!
January 8th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
Yes!!! I will stockpile these CFL bulbs and throw them like grenades when they come for me!! poison those bitches!
January 8th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
OMG! ONE typo – you all are right: that completely invalidates ALL the information in the article!!
You Pentagon shills are pathetic! Classic tactic: if you can’t refute the content, launch an ad hominem attack… Distract from the message any way you can! You are so desperate~
Really, next you’ll attack Alex Jones for *only* having a degree from a Community College instead of Ivy League. Pathetic, truly pathetic.
January 8th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
Ok, The UK has a radio broadcast band called the long wave bands which is in the frequency range from 150 kHz to 300 kHz. Those bands don’t have good reception if these lights are nearby the receiver, the lights will attenuate weak DX long wave signals. How can someone in the UK hear BBC 4, Europe 1 and other stations in the 150 kHz to 281 kHz when you have one of these lights next to your radio. The MW bands which is called AM here has the same problem and when you tune across the AM bands the noise such as a loud buzz is heard across the dial unless you turn it off.

Mary, Mary , Mary , what Ivy league degree do you refer too? If one spews facts as if they were the ash of Visuvius, only to be proven inaccurate for lack of data, why is that pathetic? What is pathetic is that those who let others formulate their thoughts for themselves, rather than formulate their own. You poor little sheeple. Do your own research as I have and you will see that Mr. Jones is an entertainer and not the great informer that you so worship! Grow up and don’t be jealous that someone smarter than you, and as I may suspect, many people are more intelligent than you. Graduating from a community college is nothing to be ashamed of, unless ofcourse, you are a drop out!!! Ta-ta for now!

Anyone interested in a little economics lesson? It is called ‘perfect substituition’ (well almost). It really is quite simple for a discriminating and intelligent consumer. For every product there is always a substitute and as far as the CFL bulbs go there is a much better choice – HALOGEN BULB LAMP. Purchase HALOGEN BULB LAMPS. Right now I am using a 20 watt halogen bulb lamp and they work just as good as CFL bulbs if not even better and use only slightly more energy than a CFL. There a simple lesson you do not even need to take an economics course to figure it out. Your purchase of a HALOGEN BULB LAMPS will help promote environmental sustainability, economic efficiency, and liberty. Amen and Amen.

More ad hominems…. (yawn) more and more desperate… You betray yourself as you betray your country~
January 9th, 2009 at 1:20 am
Mary,
Your rhetoric is quite tiresome. Betray my country, atleast I have one. And do please learn another catch phrase other than:” ad hominems.” Please. Douch! Please, do tell all just what that catch phrase does mean so we don’t have to waste those 6 seconds to change screens on our iPhones in order to look it up on our dictionary icon! Ad hominems, really?
January 9th, 2009 at 1:39 am
You don’t know what that means? Really? Why don’t you ask your team mates? There are plenty of you, as we are all aware. I’m surprised you could get a job with an alphabet agency without knowing any basic Latin. Go RTFF!!
So, you’ve proven you are a troll. We get that …and name calling is the last refuge of one who has no real contribution to make. But, I must say that your name is quel a propos -it does say it all. Are you a Luciferian like your masters?
Switching from criticising the author, to Alex, to commenters, tsk, tsk. Do you really think anyone here falls for this tripe? People here are quite aware of you paid folks and you only make fools of yourself and your department – not Alex, not the authors, not the commenters. Your pattern has been recognized and is therefore completely ineffective!
You get an F- you should be re-assigned to a desk job – without a computer, haha
I expect one of your buddies to post something soon as you seem to take turns. Perhaps they can do better
I doubt it.

Christ! an “Ad Hominum” attack means attacking the messenger ‘cos you can’t argue with the message itself. The last four posts in this forum have given us an object lesson in the Ad Hominem principle, by beheading the messenger, as an excuse to blot out the message, either thru insecurity ‘cos they don’t understand it, or worse still ‘cos they can’t handle the truth.

Just A Thought
As I watched a David Ickes video linked by another commenter from another thread and how Ickes says the ‘Shadow’ government uses Problem-Reaction-Solution to further their agenda it dawned on me that the previous high oil and gas prices may of had something to do with furthering the Global warming and One World Government agenda.
1-Global warming will lead to carbon tax laws which will lead to more International laws which is what is needed to enforce a One World Government in the future.
2-High oil and gas costs fueled the anger of the American people who aimed their anger (rightfully so) at Oil companies who are making obscene profits.
3-Proponents of the global warming agenda can attack the opponents of the global warming agenda, scientists, etc, by saying they are being paid off by the Oil companies who in the eyes of many are already the villains in the eyes of many due to high oil and gas prices. Effectively destroying the opponents of the global agenda’s arguement.
Problem-Reaction-Solution
Of course I may be wrong but it would be an effective way to push through carbon tax laws and international laws for future control by using the anger aimed at oil companies to discredit opposition to global warming……Does this make any sense to anyone?
January 9th, 2009 at 4:07 am
Good theory. Makes perfect sense to me.
#56, Thank you – well said. I think it’s the latter. Just a hunch…
January 9th, 2009 at 4:16 am
you people are undereducated morons and really need some fucking education and therapy.
one CFL bulb does not make for a hazmat team nor for anything other than people using their common sense.
You ever break a thermometer, wow guess that must have been what gave rise to the HAZMAT industry!?
Fucking monkeys, get off of my internet, you’re an embarrassment to the human race.
January 9th, 2009 at 5:09 am
#59: 17 tons of mercury end up in landfills from thermometers. This is a very serious environmental problem. It’s usually the name callers who get things wrong.

a pricey alternative ccradio.com the geo bulb nontoxic LED thats as bright as a 60 watt but runs on 7
January 9th, 2009 at 7:07 am
Hit up E-bay and you can find those LED bulbs – a bit pricey but they use 1/2 to 1/3 the energy of those swirly death bulbs and last like 8 times longer – you could have one 12-15 years before she burns out – assuming you don’t burn it 24/7. I wonder if the cleanup crews goosestep into your house prior to cleanup.

I’ve just come back from a Christmas break in England and the “carbon” propaganda is in overdrive. I read articles claiming, “2009 to be warmest year ever”, other articles trying to explain away to totally frozen landscape as a “cold snap”. and other propaganda labeling skeptics as “Climate deniers”.
As I speak much of Europe is frozen and looking out of the window reveal a white frozen landscape and none of the locals have seen anything like this for many years. Where I am, the temperature has been below zero centigrade for nearly a week even in bright sunshine it is too cold to melt snow and frost cover.
i’ve never seen this before in this part of Europe other than in the deepest winter in Hungary and other central European countries.
This Autumn there were over 30 consecutive days of no sun spots at all (Checkable with NASA photos). This means a very cold period for the Northern hemisphere. That’s if the C02 story is a scam and guess what, It’s here!
Expect Climate deniers to be demonized and criminalized in the UK shortly.
January 9th, 2009 at 10:17 am
when my lightbulbs blow im going to use candles they can stick their swirly death bulbs up where the E.U sun dont shine
January 9th, 2009 at 10:49 am
It should be a choice, just like injesting flouride should be a choice, or vaccinations.
I saw a segment on a show from Japan where they are growing vegetables with LED’s.
Safe LED’s use very little power and are … safe.
But just like good food, it will be very expensive to be healthy if this continues.

Mary Contrary-
Just because I have noticed typos in the articles written by Infowars writers DOES NOT mean I am a troll. Believe me this article is not the only one I have noticed this in lately, don’t you actually read these articles? I mention it because I am tired of hearing people that I direct here (who I am trying to get to be on our side) tell me about it and how it makes them feel that the authors are not reliable. It is common knowledge to any one who is educated that mistakes in professional, scientific, scholarly papers, etc. are discrediting to the author! Hey not everyone is perfect, I know that I’m sure not, all I’m saying is that if we are supposed to be directing people to this site then the writers should take five minutes and proof read before they post. I made this comment because I WANT INFOWARS AND THE MESSAGE IT DELIVERS TO SUCCEED! Quit being so confrontational and attacking anyone that isn’t in the exact mind set that you are. Remember we are encouraging and fighting for free thought, don’t try to make everyone conform to yours-THAT’S NOT FREEDOM!

Ah, I”ve seen that greenhouse calculator over at the Rogan Board. The HEIGHT of bullshit.
The truth is that this is private business working with governments; there just isn’t any way around. This ‘corporate green’ shit has been floating around for awhile now; with each company desperate to prove who is greener.
Never mind that this shit is unconstitutional; as is the existence of the EPA: http://mediacondom.com/?p=467
