The murder of a woman in San Francisco at the hands of an illegal immigrant has encouraged the mother of a teen boy also slain by an illegal to come forward in support of billionaire presidential candidate Donald Trump.
“It makes me sad, it makes me angry, it makes me frustrated,” the mother, Anita Shaw, told the Daily Mail.
Shaw’s 17-year-old son Jamiel was killed in 2008 by an illegal alien who had just been released from jail after serving a four month sentence for assault with a deadly weapon and battery on a police officer.
“It makes me angry. Donald Trump, he’s trying to do something, and they’re trying to shut him down,” Shaw said.
Trump has faced severe backlash for comments he made regarding criminal Mexican immigrants.
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best,” he said. “They’re not sending you, they’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems. They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime. They’re rapists and some, I assume, are good people, but I speak to border guards and they’re telling us what we’re getting.”
Last week’s murder of Kathryn Steinle, 32, by an immigrant who had already been deported five times, however, added credence to Trump’s remarks and galvanized him to further blame the Obama administration for allowing criminal aliens to enter the US.
“When I heard about the girl in San Francisco, I said, ‘oh no, not again’,” Shaw said. “She was so pretty and so young and to be with her father and her brother when it happened, just enjoying her day, and then all of a sudden no more.”
“I remember crying a lot when I was told about Jamiel because I was still in Iraq,” she said.
“I was screaming and crying, I wanted to help find the guy, but I felt completely helpless.
“And then when I found out he was an illegal alien, I felt everyone was trying to keep it quiet, I felt like because he was an illegal alien it was alright that he killed my son.
“It felt like an American citizen living in the United States is not worth anything, but my son was worth something.”
Earlier this year, Shaw’s father also gave emotional testimony during a House subcommittee hearing on immigration, blaming the Obama administration’s controversial DREAM Act for the death of his son.
“Why was this violent illegal alien allowed to walk the streets of America instead of being deported? Why was ICE not called to pick up this violent invader?” Jamiel’s father asked during the House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee hearing.
“Some people believe if you are brought over by no fault of your own that it makes you a good person. They want us to believe that DREAM act kids don’t murder. I am here to debunk that myth,” Shaw related, adding that, “DREAM Act kids have turned my family’s American dream into a nightmare.”
