Egypt’s dictator president Hosni Mubarak buzzed Tahrir (Liberation) Square in Cairo with fighter jets earlier today. It is a strong indication he is preparing one final assault against the Egyptian people before he flees to Saudi Arabia.
On Saturday, police in Beni Suef shot and killed at least 22 people. Estimates vary on how many people have died ver the last six days, but the number is generally believed to be over 100.
“The rising concern came as Egypt faced another day of angry revolt against Hosni Mubarak’s regime Sunday, with more than 100 already dead in protests demanding the veteran president quit,” AFP reported Sunday afternoon.

Mubarak has also ordered the police back out into the street. International news coverage of the protest in Tahrir Squares reveals friendly interaction between soldiers and protesters.
“The square has emptied out since the afternoon but it’s still a great atmosphere, a sense of solidarity, and very well-behaved – people are sitting around bonfires, or walking around picking up rubbish. Crowds who find occasional looters drag them over to the soldiers and hand them over,” reports Heba Morayef, a researcher for Human Rights Watch.
CBS coverage dwells on looting and thievery. This BBC footage, however, gives a better idea of the mood in Tahrir Square.
