Philip Davies told Parliament he backed David Cameron’s “very sensible” plans to help Muslim women improve their language skills.
The Prime Minister is setting up a £20million fund to pay for the lessons amid reports 190,000 Muslim women in England speak little to no English.
But speaking during a debate yesterday, backbencher Mr Davies said Britons should not be forced to “foot the bill”.
The MP for Shipley said: “Perhaps we could discuss who should pay for these English lessons.
“Because many of my constituents think that it shouldn’t be the taxpayer who foots the bill, it should be the people themselves.
