Naomi Klein: Bailout is ‘multi-trillion-dollar crime scene’

The Bush administration has already handed out almost half of the $700 billion in bank bailout money authorized by Congress but has not even filled the mandated oversight positions to review how it is being used.
Naomi Klein, author of The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism, has described the handling of the bailout as “borderline criminal” because of this and other problems. Klein spoke to Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! on Monday to explain her accusations.
“We were all reassured that there was going to be transparency, accountability, legality,” Klein stated. “But now we’re finding out that, in fact, Henry Paulson has achieved his original goal by stealth, because there is no accountability, and lawmakers are very hesitant to challenge this. … Essentially, what the Bush administration has done is said, ‘We dare you to challenge us and be responsible for the Great Depression.’”

Klein sees three areas of borderline illegality. The first is that rather than being used to get banks lending again, the bailout money “is instead going to bonuses, is instead going to dividends, going to salaries, going to mergers.”
The second is that, without Congressional authorization, “the Treasury Department pushed through a tax windfall for the banks, a piece of legislation that allows the banks to save a huge amount of money when they merge with each other. And the estimate is that this represents a loss of $140 billion worth of tax revenue for the US government.”
The third problem, which dwarfs the $700 billion bailout itself, is that “there’s another $2 trillion that’s been handed out by the Federal Reserve in emergency loans to financial institutions, to banks, that actually we don’t really know who they’re handing the money out to, because, apparently, it’s a secret.”
“If the Fed has accepted distressed assets as collateral in exchange for these loans,” stated Klein, “there’s a very good chance the taxpayers aren’t going to be getting this money back. … So that’s why we’re calling this the ‘trillion-dollar crime scene’ or the ‘multi-trillion-dollar crime scene.’”
Klein argued that Congress should be challenging violations of the bailout legislation, but instead “what they’re saying is, we can’t afford to enforce the law … that somehow, because there’s an economic crisis, legality is a luxury that Congress can’t afford.”
“I’m quite concerned,” Klein stated, “that what we’re seeing from Obama’s team is an accepting of this logic that they need to give the market what it wants, which is continuity, smooth transition, which is really just code for more of the same. … I think we should question all of it. Across the board, I think the assumptions are faulty.”
Klein is also concerned that rather than using the crisis as a mandate to fix the underlying problems, the world leaders at the recent G20 summit were talking about propping up the old system.
“Think about what these leaders could do if they really wanted to,” Klein suggested. “When you have a crisis like this, which so clearly shows the need for those types of regulations, when you have an election like there just was in the United States, where people have said clearly that this is a priority, the leaders have an opportunity to act. … But they blew that opportunity, and they actually called for less regulation.”
“This crisis isn’t over,” Klein warned, “and the same people who justified this bailout, who clamored for this bailout, are the very people who are going to turn around and say to Barack Obama, ‘We can’t afford for you to make good on your election promises. We can’t afford universal healthcare.’”
“The money has been given to the people who needed it least, and it’s going to be used to justify austerity measures imposed against those who need it most,” Klein concluded. “It’s going to be used to justify cuts to food stamps. It’s going to be used to justify cuts to Social Security, to health care, let alone being used to justify why more ambitious plans for a national health care program, for green energy are not affordable. So people have to be ready for this. You know, the next shock is yet to come.”

I saw this interview, as well as her speech at the Miami book fair on Booktv. She is very intelligent in breaking down this SCAM performed by the Global Bankers. She had also spent some time on the likely outcome of the Obama administration. The title to her book Shock Doctrine says it at. I would recommend her book.

Money is merely a step to another form of living together. If we hold on to something too long, we will decay with it, if we see the purpose of advancment, and take that path, we can free ourselves from this stage of realsisation and move forward to something more logical. Here it is. The first real solution to the financial crisis. Instead of doing a bailout for the huge corporations, what they should have done is given $1,000,000.00 to every U.S. citizen!! Doing that would have put the choice to the people as to which businesses thrive and which would fail. It would have stimulated the economy to no end, and most of the country would then be debt free, and ready to spend even more. By putting the problem into the people’s hands, it would have not only been solved but would have cost the taxpayers nothing, and would have saved the country trillions of dollars.
Now if we can just get them to pull back the bailout and start handing it out to the people to solve this problem, we’d all be fine.

Klein says the democrats arent challenging Bush regarding the bailout because they dont want to be blamed for a bank run. I guess she fails to see that the bailout was pushed by Pelosi and many other dems with obvious enthusiasm. It would be more like $700,000, but hey, I think I find some use for it? I’d have land with water rights, solar power, and as many other opportunistic things i could get a hold of. I don’t think the banksters had that in mind. Inflation would go through the roof. Poor people buy shit? TIme to jack the prices. They’d have 80% of it back in three months. But Kool-aid, Macaroni and cheese, and Bologna companies would go bankrupt.

Klein has described in great detail how the most criminal human leaders of all time have gotten away with the largest financial crime in human history…..yet has NO IDEA about 911. Sure she has questions like any thinking person….though will never vocalize that 911 was a complete and total corrupted fraud perpetrated on the world….just like this financial fraud.

This brings be to Obama. Obama is pushing hard for a Federal bailout plan for the auto industry. Why so hard? Because they gave so so so much to him on his campaign. And he promised he would help them out after he wins. Well he won, and now he has to bail them out.
You see these auto makers saw this coming. Japan did. So Japan went out and invested in the knowledge of Hybrid cars. But because here in America the Auto industry thrives off of big oil prices, they did not do the same. So now they are losing out. And that hurts the US and the Jobs.
This Bail out was for HOUSING and Foreclosed hoses. Not the auto industry. Now we are finding out that the housing market will not see a penny of this bail out money. That hurts us more then anything.
As stocks fall it will make it harder for you to get a loan for your new or old house, a credit card, pay for school , ect. But help the auto makers. It is projected that if they give this money to the auto makers they will need a bail out plan in 2 years because they owe so much money from what they lost.
So who wins here? No one. Its just printed money going out the window once again. The American way.

Alex Jones always highlights the problems – Fed, NWO, Bilderbergers, police state etc. He never gives equal time to finding solutions. Something which Ron Paul does – he talks about monetary policy, political activism, economic issues – matters that can make a difference, that can actually bring down the NWO.

Naomi is a very brave woman who is absolutely right!! However; she should have a “I won’t commit suicide clause” in her writings so that they won’t bump her off like so many other people who didn’t know how evil and murderous these monsters of lucifers are!! But she wrote a great article and should be highly commended for her courage and bravery in saying what needs to be trumpeted by millions of Americans!! We are being robbed, strong armed robbery. No qualms about it, but the question that plagues me at every turn is always the same: What Are You Going To Do About It? So I try and educate and pass out free movies and have discussions. I try to get the collective human mind churning and moving again. It just doesn’t feel as if it is working. They have had thousands of years to practice and hone their craft of obfuscation. I’d almost admire them if they weren’t so inwardly focused. I can only hope for the supposed environmental explosion and ice age that is supposed to be coming. People claim the world is warming, but it’s not, the next Ice Age is coming back. Blah blah blah, What Are You Going To Do About It?
