Hundreds of drivers are being recruited to take part in government-funded road-pricing trials that could result in charges of up to £1.30 a mile on the most congested roads.

    • A d v e r t i s e m e n t

The test runs will start early next year in four locations and will involve fitting a satellite-tracking device to the vehicles of volunteers. An on-board unit will automatically deduct payments from a shadow account set up in the driver’s name.

Paul Clark, the Transport Minister, confirmed yesterday that the trials would proceed despite previous statements from the Government suggesting that it had abandoned the idea of a national road-pricing scheme. In 2004 a feasibility study considered a range of possible prices, up to £1.30 a mile. It said that the highest rate “would be paid by only 0.5 per cent of traffic”.

The on-board unit could be used to collect all road charges, such as congestion charges in London and Manchester and tolls for crossing bridges and using new lanes on motorways.

In the longer term the technology could be used to introduce pricing on all roads, with the price varying according to the time of day, direction of travel and the level of congestion.

Theres a bill right now in front of congress to do this here so the insurance co.’s can charge ya by the mile. A tracking chip. Lets ‘em see where you’ve been, how fast you went, how many times you put on the brakes. We should be seeing it soon.

    7. STOP THE MADNESS! UK Says:

THIS IS BANG OUT OF ORDER!!
i can tell you one thing, this will never happen in my country!!
I know for a fact that many people in England (and the rest of the uk) are very annoyed with the government!
For them to do this would be suicidal!
No one would pay the stupid fees! – but then again people thought the same about the congestion charge!
The thing that pisses me off is that we all moan, but the only way we can actually make a diffrence is if we all group together and say no! put our foot down and challenge government!!

COME ON PEOPLE!! WAKE UP!!! STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS!! STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT!

They won’t be satisfied until you are taxed over 100% of your income and have to pay for the “privilege” to live and work (for them of course). Perpetual serfdom is now here.

The University of Texas study refers to this tax, tax and re-tax philosophy as “consumer surplus” (i.e. any money you have left over after current taxes must be taken away from you).

Nothing to worry about. The savior of the USSA has arrived. He will bring great change, so relax, give up your arms and trust in him. The Obama-nation is about to begin……

    13. istandalone1990 Says:

im against this alot of us are against this but we dnt get interviewed or anything its only groups controlled by the nwo orif there nt fully in the know u dnt get any attention

    14. M UK Says:

Oh well. I’ll be taking the scenic route on B roads if this continues. I’ll leave the motorways and A roads to those who can afford to drive there. I already pay my road tax and that was meant to be that.
Or even better: might just quit work, get on the benefit system and give up the car….
We should all do that and give the government something to think about! They’d soon be begging people to go back to work…. or would they?

    15. Adrian Peirson Says:

On the assumption that at least 1% of these will be broken does that mean we will not be able to leave home, go to work, take the kids to school until we get it fixed.
If the answer is no, then why not simply take a hammer to the thing.

see how easy the coming revolution is going to be, they are mad, power hungry, greedy, but they can’t strategise, its pure power and greed, not ability.
      the sooner the better people.

    16. m.rundell Says:

Check with the state of Iowa and one of the Iowa universities. An advertisement has been airing for a short while now on a study that will be conducted with eligible vehicle owners on Iowa highways. A device that would be connected to the vehicles was mentioned as well as compensation in the amount of $895.00 over a certain time period.

    17. Arlo Says:

Guys, I have been dropping infobombs on mainstream articles at http://hookk.com. It’s the simplest way to make your point on any news article on the web to expose mainstream BS and your comments live right there next to the article on CNN or whatever – and they don’t ban sites like prisonplanet and infowars – no signup either.

I think they’re fairly new but the site is getting busier by the day. Definitely a must have whenever you’re reading the MSM – even just to blow off some steam.

    18. fe$ter Says:

just when you think the government couldn’t possibly get away with ripping motorists off even more, they go and announce this, why the hell isn’t the country protesting strongly about these greedy ways of taxing folk even more?? This is a comparitively small island of a country, if we weren’t so apathetic, the country could give a massive finger to `em and show that we won’t take it lying down… another thing is, with technology in place to work remotely away from offices etc. why the hell aren’t workers allowed to work from home for at least half the week? This would make for a greener environment, as transport would be reduced….they should look at giving car sharers incentives and tax breaks!! muppets…

    19. getting scared in the UK Says:

An insurance firm in UK (Norwich Union) sent me details of how I can save plenty of money by only paying insurance when I actually drive my car. This system works by a ‘Saterlite Navigational System’ being placed inside my car with a ‘tracking chip’ to ensure I only ‘pay’ as I go. It knows my co-ordinates for my house so it detects when I’m driving et cetera…
Yeah right, you track me for the Govt. then when the NWO is in full swing they take over and track me.
They think we are so stupid…. mind you, I bet people are buying it.

Help me – I’m trying to crash the UK Govt. website “No.10 online petitions’ I’ve signed about 30 and created at least 10 – please help :D

    20. Susie Squeegee Says:

If only a half a per cent of traffic will be affected, why is the Govt going to all this trouble? Surely, such a scheme will only fuel inflation since prices for goods and the cost of labour will have to increase to absorb the cost. Another (not so) stealth(y) tax. Presumably, this Govt will not rest until they have taxed the next four generations in advance?

    21. James F. Blake Says:

Britishers, you deserve everything you get. You have let successive governments take your liberty and human rights in the name of “security.” You let them take your guns. You have a hereditary ruling family whose current bloodline goes back to Nazi Germany. You have kings and queens and princes and dukes and whatever spending hundreds and hundreds of millions of pounds per year on themselves and you don’t care.

Here in Canada, the government still pretends we are a British colony. We have our governor general and our lieutenant governors. But it’s all public theatre. We get annoyed when our governor general spends hundreds of thousands of dollars on her vacations.

As for #12: You are wrong. That s--- is being exported to America (and Canada). Pennsylvania Turnpike. Indiana Toll Road. Chicago Skyway. Highway 407. TTC-69. All run, or to be run, by Cintra, a company owned by King Juan Carlos of Spain. Look up, 12, that’s excrement flying over your head.

Back to the Britishers: you let them tax you an exorbitant amount for petrol (gasoline). Many times more than what we pay in North America. Now that’s not enough. You will have to pay to drive on the same roads for which you have already paid for with your taxes.

Don’t you wish you still had your guns?
