Nationwide Second Amendment rally attracts locals

A strong group of Brownsville residents were one of hundreds of groups nationwide to rally Saturday in support of the Second Amendment.

The aptly named .223 resistance rally gave Second Amendment advocates a chance to publicly express their opinions at Veterans Park.

“The .223 is significant because that is the cartridge that goes in a semi automatic,” Brownsville Tea Party President Terry Frady said.

The rally, named for the .223-caliber ammunition, is a show of support for gun advocates who oppose President Barack Obama’s recent 23 executive orders that would limit high-capacity magazines, ban military-style assault weapons, close background check loopholes, provide schools with safety resources and increase access to mental health services.
