Editor’s note: The establishment hijacking of the grassroots Tea Party has paid off. Mission almost accomplished.
Public opinion of the tea party has dropped, according to a new poll conducted by USA Today/Gallup.
The survey found that 47 percent of Americans have an unfavorable view of the movement, up from 42 percent in USA Today/Gallup’s January survey. Favorable ratings for the tea party dropped to 33 percent in April from 39 percent in January. The unfavorable rating of 47 percent is the highest since Gallup began polling on the tea party in March 2010.
As expected, Republicans were most likely to indicate a positive opinion of the tea party, giving the movement a 60 percent approval rating. Independents offered 30 percent approval rating and Democrats gave the tea party 10 percent approval.
