New game lets players massacre civilians

A new video game allows players to pose as Russian ultranationalist terrorists and massacre civilians with assault weapons in an airport.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is set for release Nov. 10, in time for the American holiday shopping season. Its predecessor sold 14 million copies and earned myriad “game of the year” awards.
But the latest incarnation is drawing fire. The game allows players to pose as terrorists — and play in first-person view — engaging in violence against non-combat actors.
GameSpot said the scene where players shoot bystanders is “reminiscent of last year’s mass killings in Mumbai.”
Australia rated the game MA15+, or suitable for children 15 years of age or older. “Australia is one of the only Western democracies without an adult (R18+) rating for video games,” the Sydney Morning Herald notes.
A local critic who runs the Australian Council on Children and the Media said that she didn’t feel the 18+ rating was enough. It means that children as young as 15 will be able to slaughter civilians in realistic fashion.
“The consequences of terrorism are just abhorrent in our community and yet here we are with a product that’s meant to be passed off as a leisure time activity, actually promoting what most world leaders speak out publicly against,” Jane Roberts said.
“If that material was on the internet about how to become a terrorist, how to join a group and how to wipe out people – that would be removed because it would not be acceptable,” she added.
The Herald adds that “Activision, the game’s publisher, and its lawyers, have been working frantically to remove all traces of the footage from the web, arguing that it was released illegally before the game had come out. But the company has confirmed the footage is authentic and that the mission is part of the game.”
In the scene, Australian reviewers wrote, “Several civilians are shot with blood burst bullet wounds; civilian corpses are strewn across the airport floor, often in stylised pools of blood; injured civilians crawl away with lengthy blood trails behind them.”

This is designed to do two opposing things simultaneously… Desensitize you to extreme violence while at the same time show how realistically easy terrorism can be, by putting you behind the gun.
Perhaps you’ll want to do it for real after playing… I bet the military has their hand in this, maybe even an invitation at the end to come join the Middle-East party.

I enjoy a good shooter game, especially if there is a sniper rifle. Farcry2, Resistance2 MOH Airborne and Fracture all have decent sniper rifles. My sons hate playing COD 4 multiplayer with me for that reason. They can’t get close enough to see me, let alone kill me. As
to games desensitizing a person to killing, it is up to the parent to do their job in good parenting and keep things in perspective. Deer hunting for the first time can be intimidating to a young person too, but it’s all in the way it is exampled by the parent and keeping things in perspective and teaching the kids that too. I call it the warrior perspective. Warriors now how to fight and kill, but they first learn when and why a person needs to call on the warrior inside and when not to. As Ecclesiastes so aptly states, there is a time for peace and a time to fight. There is a great line in “We were Soldiers” when a young lieutenant asks Mel Gibson’s character how he keeps being both a soldier and a father in perspective. Mel replies “being good in one, makes you better at the other”

My 12 year old loves all the war game vid stuff, as do I they a great fun. Lately my son has been saying he wants to join the army and be a sniper. Last week we slaughtered our turkeys for the holidays,,this was the first time I let my son participate in the whole process, anyway while gutting them he was getting pretty grossed out and I asked him if he thought it was going to be any easier to look threw a scope and blow a persons head off . Gotta say.. Modern Warfare and Battlefield 2 are great online multi-player games. However, this seems strange, they’ve never had civilian characters in the games before. Seems weird… especially since the previous versions didn’t even have blood.

That’s true. I’ve played Call of Duty games before and they’re great when you want to interact with history but the Modern Warfare Series are extremely fictional. They even have a chapter in the game where D.C has been bombed or something. They could be foreshadowing what Lindsay Williams said in paying attention to the entertainment mediums for clues into what’s going to happen. Maybe D.C. could be blown up according to this game. I haven’t played it and don’t plan on doing so. If anyone has played it maybe they could clear it up.

Don’t waste your money or time on this game. There are HUGE technical flaws in it in addition to the fact it teaches you NOTHING about real war.
I use simulations for tactical training (as does the U.S. military…), but there are only a few that have the classification “Military Shooter”. COD is not one of them. There is a reason for that. The developers of COD either have phony military advisors feeding them all kinds of misinformation, or they are ignoring their military advisors. I’ll give you an example.
In COD, when you have a sniper weapon as a primary weapon and you are about to take a shot, there is a way to “hold your breath” so as to take that movement out of the shot. So, the sniper takes a big, deep breath – and holds it! This is absolutely contrary to reality. Precision shooters let all the breath out. The doctrine of letting out “half a breath” has been abandoned because nobody knows what half a breath is. If you let out “half a breath” each time you’re starting the shooting cycle and the half breath you let out now isn’t actually the same as the half breath you let out before – you will be in a different position and you will lose consistency. Consistency is the foundation of accuracy. In either case, however, no one EVER holds a full breath prior to taking a shot, except in COD! In addition to that, the sniper in COD never uses a shooting sling or a bipod, trusting the stability of the “shooting platform” to muscle, instead.
Folks, this is complete BS! If you want a realistic simulation of war, get some paintball or airsoft gear and start getting outside for some exercise. Then, if you’re snowed in and need to get with your buds to do some tactical practice – use a Tom Clancy title. I can’t even recommend Operation Flashpoint at this time because of the holdovers using scope reticles not designed for ranging (i.e. MIL-DOT vs. ACOG).

I am a truther. And I am also a Call of Duty fan… Fan is an understatement. I achieved a Gold Cross level 55 on COD4 Multi-player (XBOX live). If you do not know what that is, well lets just say, I like to play. I have pre-ordered this game, and it is the most anticipated title in years. Cant wait!!!! It is going to surpass the already stellar reviews it has received. MW2 HECK YEAH!!!! Hey Jones, chill the heck out. Its a video game. Have fun with it, unless of course you are too uncoordinated to accomplish having any fun. In that case, keep on looking way to far into shit, its entertaining and I like that too.

Not a gamer i see… You are “yelling”/working with, actual people. From all over the world. In real time. There is strategy involved, teamwork, and all sort of side missions and goals. Dont knock it till you try it. I agree though, it is a complete waste of time, but so is thinking that we are going to stop this new world order from succeeding. He’s playing on easy —- on the hardest level of play it becomes a semi-accurate training simulation.
You have to use more real world tactics on the hardest level.
Ok to prove this to yourself —- play a race car game for 2 hours than strait go jump in your car.
see if you don’t find yourself having to re-adjust the reality of the situation.
i’ve had many people try this test and nine of ten admit to haveing to re-adjust their reality.
now consiter that many people will play this game from wake to sleep for months strait
there are people with almost a year of actual game play on the cod4.
one last thing my avrage is 18 to 1 with a good connection.
so i’m talking from the veiw of a gamer with actual skills.
I hate to admit this becuase I really like to play video games.

I played a shooter, and fired a pellet gun and I didn’t re-adjust my reality. When your playing a racing game you’re conscience mind shuts off, but when you drive a real life car you conscience wakes up because theres more to think about. I don’t want to risk on killing someone and going to jail but on video game you could do w.e the fuck you want.
Playing video games adds the fun in reality without worrying going to jail or feeling bad.
But on other hand you’re still not going to anything stupid killing anyone or driving people over.

This game and in particular this level is a murder simulator. A first person shooter view of murdering civilians. I don’t know if the game makers were trying to tell us something like many terror cells are actually black-op commandos hired by a western government and that they usually slip out of the back and they kill the ethnic patzies to make it look like the crazy muslims did it. It was horrible watching that video. It is nothing like grand theft auto where you espect to see this and the graphics are not as good and is completely unrealistic. COD really did a gross number with this. I guess the powers that be could use this to train new recuits on domestic police state NWO operations.

3. If video games cannot train anyone, then why do major airlines and the U.S. Army, Air Force etc. use first person flight simulators and Shooter games for training purposes?
These are just 3 simple questions to try to get people interested in the ACTUAL mindset of the Military Developers of SOME gaming software, and to enlighten everyone here who is a gamer, that thinks games are “Just a simple diversion from reality!”

Did you notice anything unusual about the release date?? 11/10/09, mix it up a bit and you have this, 09/11/01. Interesting is it not! A game that simulates terrorism against the U.S. being released on a day that has the exact same numbers in it, that the worst terrorist event in U.S. history!! And it was against unarmed civilains also!!

Never heard a peep about the horrific terrorist violence depicted in Inglorious Basterds. Oh right, they’re heroic Jews, saving the day, and the only government, that terrorist tactics are suitable for, is the highly romanticized, long dead Nazi regime. They have no problem, with releasing a hundred WW2 games depicting glorified warfare in the last decade alone. By passing any historical relevance for the glorification of war. This is the world we live in. Civilians are fucking fodder on modern battlefields, sounds pretty realistic to me, especially if super powers like Britain, U.S., Israel, Russia, are involved. They should show civilians crawling away with their guts hanging out, because that’s what happens when you unload a couple hundred rounds from a SAW in the middle of a populated city. Maybe they should make a game called predator drone, and you go around dropping hellfire missiles and white phosperous on evil muslim third world peasants indiscriminately, and it would probably get bought by the army for training simulations.

I have been into games since I was a child, so I know full well of the effects. I do have to say after watching the two videos, especially the second one, I do not approve of that at all. It does have subtle effects on the gamers one being desensitization. I feel game play such as this dehumanizes extremely, but most gamers know how unrealistic it is and thus thoughts about it go no further than the time limit of the stage they are playing. On a personal note, I will probably be playing this game as I have played the first.
One thing to remember to all those who wish to condemn this game must know. This is just one such account of killing innocence, but let us also know that there are hundreds of games past, present and future that do the same thing. The visuals appear brutal yes, but is what you condemn any different that other scenarios in other games? If you can separate the distinctions then you must truly have been led astray. It is true that modern games are better compared to predecessors visually, but what the gamer believes is happening is all the same to him in contrast to the graphic quality.

Do all of you guys criticizing this game understand that 95% of all video games have some element of violence in them? There are myrids of games where you can walk around and kill nazis (Castle Wolfenstein).
anyway, why is desensitizing to violence a bad thing? If I am more prone to violence, isn’t that good that I would fight rather than submit to the NWO? I have a feeling that many of you will thank the ghetto gangs of LA as they fight the NWO more than yoour average baby boomer ever will.

I have been killing Nazis, Americans, Zombies, Aliens, Animals, Terrorists, criminals, etc. in the virtual world for as long as I can remember. However, I have done none of the above in the real world. I am 25 years old and I know the difference between the real world and a video game. With that being said, I probably wouldn’t let my hypothetical 12 year old son play this game. This is where parents come in and decide whether their child is mature enough to play.

if u like bioshock check out their previous game system shock 2. sci fi horror at its finest. amazingly twisted and atmospheric if just a little dated. i like SS2 better than bioshock.
btw, use a mouse and keyboard if youre going to play shooting games like a man. pushing a stick with your thumbs is slow and inaccurate. get a multi core pc if u like fps’s.

I love to play Call Of Duty 4 and had been looking forward to Modern Warfare 2. But I think I’ll boycott it after seeing that footage which is absolutely sick. There is no reason to include a segment where you shoot unarmed civilians whilst listening to people scream other than to desensitize the young gamer ie. the possible future military recruit.
The games producer was supposed to be Infinity Ward. I wondered why the switch to a new team, now I know. Activision have been listening to high ranking military officials seeking to brainwash tomorrows military recruits in preparation for martial law.
This is absolute proof to back up the statement from Fall of the Republic : Entertainment is never put out there just to entertain.

and here i was going to buy this, ive never purchased any call of duty games and i was going to with modern warfare, then the sequel came out which sounded awesome. after seeing this unnecessary display of poor taste i think ill pass, like they’re the only good shooters out there, whatever. i love violent video games, but a line has to exist somewhere. im sure the new battlefield game will be better and itll have vehicles. vote with your dollar people. i say this game on steam is prepurchase $60 with no frills. they must think it’s very high and mighty. perhaps go on the steam forums and post this to raise a ruckus, it’ll also help to expose things to a largely ignorant crowd. it would be a nice victory if this scene were removed. i dont see what the purpose of being a terrorist in that situation with the godlike powers the player has in video games of taking a eff ton of bullets, using them to mow down unarmed civilians. perhaps steam could be coerced to pass on the message that this inclusion could hurt sales numbers. time is of the essence. dont whore yourself out to video games, let them whore themselves out to you. you payed for it, you should be getting what you want to eff with, not what someone else wants to use to eff with you.

Video games for the most part have been violent since the begining, but anyone who has been playing them since the start can see how much more violent they have become today, and a lot of it is due to how realistic they are. Jumping on Goombas doesn’t even compare to blowing someones head off. However I don’t think this can program you unless you literally let it, thats why when I see several people post here that “This game can’t program me” and than in another sentence saying “It’s teaching me how to shoot”… Play it is a game, It shouldn’t teach you anything and it literally isn’t and if you think it is your being programmed.

I’m an investor in Activision and I know a couple of dudes that freelanced on both COD1 and 2 and what they have told me is that those guys are huge supporters of the Second Amendment. They’re all gun owners and constantly hit the ranges both for fun and for research on their game titles. I know that the airport scene looks pretty bad but the company as a whole is just capitalizing on what could be the biggest game title in history. All they have to do is sell 13 million copies to beat out GTA4 and 21.5 million to surpass GTA San Andreas. That’s a lot of money.

1. This is fantasy. It is not reality.
2. How do you know this is “NWO” propaganda? Do you even know the definition of the word?
3. How do you know there is a definitive connection between Infinity Ward and the so called “NWO”?
4. You are off your meds if you think this is some kind of “training simulator”. There is a huge difference between shooting up your friends in virtual reality and firing a real small arms rifle.
5. There is no link between violent video games and real life agression, causal or corollary.

Activision has just confirmed to VG247 that a leaked Modern Warfare 2 video of civilians being gunned down in an airport is skippable. “Players have the option of skipping over the scene. At the beginning of the game, there are two ‘checkpoints’ where the player is advised that some people may find an upcoming segment disturbing. These checkpoints can’t be disabled. As a teen I saw someone get shot in the head. No videogame I ever played has come remotely close to mimicking what it felt or looked like to see that guy get part of his head blown off. I don’t care how many studies people do. A game (and movies for that matter) are far removed from the real thing. There’s no dramatic music, there’s no cool camera angles, and no great one liners, just someone you know personally is now dead. Maybe the brainwashing works on kids in the suburbs where everything is all flowers and rosy, but those of us that have been around real violence know better.
If banning this videogame will defeat the NWO and all the murder and mayhem they are responsible for, including 2 world wars, then yeah I’m all for it, let’s ban it.

first of all, you have the right to think what you will, but this has nothing to do with jesus, god, or any other religious figurehead. last i checked, the agenda was non-biased, and whether you pray to this god or that one has nothing to do with it.
its pretty simple really. there are tons of people, today and in history, that have never played violent video games, ever. yet some of those people still murdered other people.
with gamers, millions and millions of people have played the violent games over the years. out of all of those people, a very small percentage (id guesstimate that its less than 1%) have murdered someone. and out of those who have, its safe to say that they had other issues beyond simply playing the same game as countless others. now, im not saying a game couldnt contribute in some way or another, but anyone who is that susceptible to a form of entertainment obviously has other problems.
now, even if i cut your arguement some serious slack, i still beg the question, “who the hell is raising these kids?” i was taught the difference between right and wrong, and also responsibility for my actions. those are fundamental, and anyone who lacks them was either not taught (although they seem more like instinct to me), or does not have the capacity to carry them out. i lean more towards the latter.
either way, i just dont believe that video games are that much of a contributor to bad behavior, if there is parential supervision in the home. and if lack of supervision is the cause, then the game is just a means to an end, and cant really be blamed.

Infinity Ward told th press that the mission is skipable and gives a warning that the mission contains very graphic material. If you do play the mission, however, you don’t have to fire a shot.

generally speaking, i have to say that i think the whole ‘desensitizing’ deal could work in our favor, just as well as theirs. i mean, i personally feel that there is a good chance of some trigger pulling on u.s. soil, some time in the near future. that being said, getting the population used to it could definitely be a good thing for all of us. its a 2-way street.
as for the game, i’m buying it. the call of duty titles on the 360 play pretty nice online, and i really enjoyed modern warfare 1, so this will be one of the very few titles i buy this year.

I have spent 16 years of my life playing games. The fact is very simple, games are adictive and it is like a drug once you start you can’t quit. The major problem with games are that they steal your life and your brain and slowly but surly they turn you into zombies. Most gamers are sleep and they don’t even know what is going on in real world. I was one of them and it is only after taking a break ,resisting to games that I woke up! Games have changed as much as our lives have. I tried a game last year and I was shocked to see how the game was full fo Natzi enblems, flags,obelisks!! I was not the only one having seen that , other gamers were suprised too. The game that I play now is based on Angels vs evil and I am not even suprised to see evils statue here and there “I will get him someday”haha or I have already just by waking up and seeing the truth! Anyways it is very obveious that elites have their hands in gaming industry. They have been showing to us the sheeplets their goals and our future in movies as they are NOW in games.

Look, my friends love these games and will probably play this one too. It’s a game, but I also see the correlation to what is going on right now and it is quite disturbing. The game that just came out recently that I was freaked out by is the new Cabela’s hunting game: Big Game Hunter 2010. You take on the role of Jack Wilde who was contacted by The Royal Ancient Order of Orion. The Intro actually says “At every turn your skills as a hunter and marksman will be tested. After all, the Order only wants the best.”

What about the endless movies that show civilian slaughter? The corrupt meme is everywhere, not just in games, although I will admit that games, due to their interactive nature, are more dangerous and they train the reflexes of people who do go off the edge and do public shootings, as was the case for the rather good aim of the virginia tech shooter. Notice that he didn’t get taken down by civilians…
Gun laws are thorny issues, I tend to think that either everyone has them, and is trained to use them, or nobody should. It’s the imbalance between some people being armed and other people not being armed that causes problems. The guns themselves are neither good nor evil, they are a very specific piece of technology that can only be used for harm, for hunting or for defense. I used to be against guns, but knowing what I know now about the NWO I think an unarmed population is a bad idea in the current socio-political climate, and breeds top down abuse, sadly, as I would rather see a peaceful utopic society but we don’t have the culture for it.
I will say this though, guns are not the root cause of our current problems. Psychopathocracy and the corruption of the group mind is what we need to focus on, and having a game intended for minors which allows them to slaughter civilians is proof of corruption of the group mind, as we’re not supposed to be killing ourselves like that according to any civil and moral guidelines.

Scientific research shows that mentally rehearsing something is equivalent in your brain to actually doing the action. So when you play these extremely violent video games you are training your brain to be violent. When you shoot civilians in a game you are preparing your mind to shoot them in real life. This game is rated 18. The scene in question is provided for the player to see the other side of the coin as the rest of the game you are after those people. As well, there is a warning and that scene is skip-able.

Games influence behaviour. Every worldly experience including being alive itself affects behaviour.
Showing and putting kids in the first person in such violent environments, especially when there isn’t any significant external education to guide them otherwise, is detrimental. It is completely obvious and only a fool would not agree. Detrimental on varying degrees. I’m not saying all kids are going to be psychotic killers, but it does not, for exemple, emphasise the value of human life.
I played violent games when I was younger but now violence in films/games disgusts me when I think it really happens in real life and I have seen the real effects, and producers surround it in an air of glamor and psuedo realism.
Yes it’s complete propaganda as well. Again, you’d be a fool not to agree since Russians/Arabs have been placed as the enemy in almost every war game (real or fictitious, as they often are) since games became realistic enough to allow one to differentiate. Seruously, just play one of these games and the text/story is just like out of mainstream media mixed with intense Pentagon propaganda.
Numerous studies showing games increase violent behaviour, provide examples to release anger and solve inter-personal problems, decrease concentration, create mild Schizophrenia and “jumpy” behaviour in situations which do not demand it not to mention a host of mild emotional disfunction.
A good way to know if anything in inherently bad for you it to question “would a rich powerful elite person or their family do this”? Why do you think the highly educated elite live such long and healthy lives? They don’t do anything inherently bad to their body/mind and I think it’s safe to assume they don’t let their children play violent video games either. Elites want to live for as long as possible to carry through their agenda. An elite dead at 40 is not as effective as one who lives to 90. Basic rational behaviour.

I appreciate Alex Jones and this site, but I have to agree with common sense: it’s just a game. It’s brutal, yes, and sick, but so is terrorism. I think it’s a unique perspective, personally.
Of COURSE, they leave out the part where you go in as a commando and wipe these fools out. That’s most likely the main story of the game, and it would make it even more emotional and immersive knowing what they actually did to those civilians…
The brainwashing idea is contradictory and, frankly, quite stupid. So the corporate media matrix wants to brainwash us to… to what? Pick up guns and go be violent? That’s totally backwards to everything else this site talks about, they want pacification, gun control, etc… They DO NOT want everyone out carrying guns, or the idea of being comfortable around them, or learning military-esque tactics from these games. It doesn’t make any sense, especially coming from you champions of critical thinking.

No, I don’t think they will. Its sad how painfully obvious it all is, the real reason this site is here. The fact is, it is incredibly rare to find people who aren’t sheep, for that is human nature. Humans have been playing follow the leader since before they made a language. But do not mock them, they are just being normal people, theres no shame in that. I am not trying to sound as though I am above anyone, but the fact of the matter is that this is the way things are. We will all see how this plays out eventually, till then we must never stop asking questions. Just as Obama must be questioned, so must Alex Jones, for they are but human.

This is exactly the reason why I stick to action combo games like the devil may cry series. I prefer unrealisticly beating up monsters at high speeds with a sword in third person view to being a terrorist right behind the gun killing innocent civilians. Its still a distraction from reality, but thats why I don’t play games much in the first place.

It says “children as young as 15 will be able to play the game”. Right, and their little eight year old brother isn’t going to play it?? I’m so sure.
I will summarize where we are at as a society today, from the viewpoint of a typical 15 year old.
Me and my gurlfrend had sex like 15 times last nite! I think shes pregnint. Oh well, she’ll just have an abortion. I skiped class 2day and got high on meth all aftrnoon, while listning 2 Jay-Z’s new album, called Lucifer or sumthing like that. Then I was 2 high 2 go home, so I 8 McDonald’s again, and went 2 my bud’s house and we playd Kill The Cops on his Xbox all nite while we snorted X. My mom thot I was at work, but I lost my job last weak. Oh well, thats what farewell is for. Gee I hope my deeler is awake. I want 2 get me some crack rock and play Kill The Cops all day 2day. Maybe I can go 2 Iraq 1 day as a solder because I didnt learn anything in skool, and I like 2 blow stuff up. Then I can be a reel cop when I come back. No, I’ll be a rapper like Jay-Z! Or maybe I can make vidio games! I always wanted 2 make a game where you just go around killing people in shoping malls. Richard dawkins says there’s no god, so I’m glad I know evrything.
