NY Times: Afghan Opium Kingpin On CIA Payroll

A bombshell article in today’s edition of the New York Times lifts the lid on how the brother of Afghan President Hamid Karzai, a suspected kingpin of the country’s booming opium trade, has been on the CIA payroll for the past eight years. However, the article serves as little more than a whitewash because it fails to address the fact that one of the primary reasons behind the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan was the agenda to reinstate the Golden Crescent drug trade.
“The agency pays (Ahmed Wali) Karzai for a variety of services, including helping to recruit an Afghan paramilitary force that operates at the C.I.A.’s direction in and around the southern city of Kandahar, Mr. Karzai’s home,” reports the Times.
An October 2008 report from the Times reveals how, after security forces discovered a huge tractor-trailer full of heroin outside Kandahar in 2004, “Before long, the commander, Habibullah Jan, received a telephone call from Ahmed Wali Karzai, the brother of President Hamid Karzai, asking him to release the vehicle and the drugs.”
In 2006, following the discovery of another cache of heroin, “United States investigators told other American officials that they had discovered links between the drug shipment and a bodyguard believed to be an intermediary for Ahmed Wali Karzai.”
The Times article out today also discusses how the CIA uses Karzai as a go-between between the Americans and the Taliban. He is also directly implicated in the manufacturing of phony ballots and polling stations that were attributed to the President’s disputed election victory.
“If it looks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, it’s probably a duck,” the American officer said of Mr. Karzai. “Our assumption is that he’s benefiting from the drug trade.”
Officials quoted by The Times described Karzai as a Mafia-like figure who expanded his influence over the drug trade with the aid of U.S. efforts to eliminate his competitors.

The Afghan opium trade has exploded since the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan, following a lull after the Taliban had imposed a crackdown. According to the U.N., the drug trade is now worth $65 billion. Afghanistan produces 92 per cent of the world’s opium, with the equivalent of 3,500 tonnes leaving the country each year. Other figures put the number far higher, at around 6,100 tonnes a year.
The New York Times exposé pins the blame on Karzai, but fails to explain that one of the primary reasons behind the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan was the United States’ agenda to restore, not eradicate, the drug trade.
Before the invasion, the Taliban collaborated closely with the U.N. to reduce opium production down to just 185 tonnes, a figure at least 2000% below current levels. The notion that the “Taliban benefits from the drug trade” and that the U.S. is trying to stop it, as both Bush and Obama claimed, is the complete opposite of what is actually happening.
As Professor Michel Chossudovsky has highlighted in a series of essays, the explosion of opium production after the invasion was about the CIA’s drive to restore the lucrative Golden Crescent opium trade that was in place during the time when the Agency were funding the Mujahideen rebels to fight the Soviets, and flood the streets of America and Britain with cheap heroin, destroying lives while making obscene profits.
The Times implies that the drug lord Karzai being on the CIA payroll is little more than an embarrassing coincidence, when in reality he is just a middle manager for the U.S. military-industrial complex’s control of the drug trade in Afghanistan which stretches back decades and was only interrupted when the Taliban came to power.
“Heroin is a multibillion dollar business supported by powerful interests, which requires a steady and secure commodity flow. One of the “hidden” objectives of the war was precisely to restore the CIA sponsored drug trade to its historical levels and exert direct control over the drug routes,” writes Chossudovsky.
“As revealed in the Iran-Contra and Bank of Commerce and Credit International (BCCI) scandals, CIA covert operations in support of the Afghan Mujahideen had been funded through the laundering of drug money. “Dirty money” was recycled –through a number of banking institutions (in the Middle East) as well as through anonymous CIA shell companies–, into “covert money,” used to finance various insurgent groups during the Soviet-Afghan war, and its aftermath.”
Within two years of the CIA’s covert operation in Afghanistan, “CIA assets again controlled this heroin trade. As the Mujahideen guerrillas seized territory inside Afghanistan, they ordered peasants to plant opium as a revolutionary tax. Across the border in Pakistan, Afghan leaders and local syndicates under the protection of Pakistan Intelligence operated hundreds of heroin laboratories. During this decade of wide-open drug-dealing, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency in Islamabad failed to instigate major seizures or arrests.”
This is the history of the Afghan opium trade that the Times won’t tell you, and in failing to do so today’s article serves only to whitewash the true scale of the agenda behind the U.S. occupation of Afghanistan.

Hawk and like-minded – You are so wrong. True Christianity is the belief that Jesus Christ is one’s savior, God incarnate, who died on the cross so we are forgiven of our sins. That is it, pure and simple. This belief in Christ as Lord and Savior is totally different than the practice or belief in a religion, which I find misguided most of the time because religions are nothing more than man made organizations much akin to a government or corporation, and therefore subject to corruption. I have stayed away from organized religion for decades because it was so evident that these organizations are corrupt, mostly cliquesh in nature and always seeking the almighty dollar. There is nothing wrong in the belief in a higher power and the recognition that there is something greater than what we experience in the empiric world. The moral values that God himself set down for us to live by have proven time and time again to be the only way to keep the world a sane place. What we are experiencing today, complete moral bankruptcy at every level and permeating every institution is irrefutable proof of this truth.

Ah yes it’s all a misfortunate coincidence that Karzai is positioned by the U.S. as the new president of Afghanistan, with al their intelligence ties they failed to detect that Karzai’s own brother is one of the most badass criminals located in the middle east. But what the hell, just install him as president….
Also I like to point out that using drugs as a muslim is almost as bad as eating pig meat for jewish people, so it’s pretty obvious that the U.S. goverment is to blame that the rise in opium growth has skyrocketed over the past years. The people in middle eastern countries have enough trouble in getting a decent meal on the table every day, so if you think rational for a minute it would be far more plausible for them to invest in agriculture, instead of harvesting opium wich they hardly get a profit off giving the fact that it’s only raw material they produce, and not the drugs themselfs.
These people are themselfs victim off opression by the militairy industrial complex, they can chose between producing opium in the hope of getting some food or money to feed their families, or they have the chance to be called a ‘possible terrorist’ and get shot tru the head or get captures and ne ver see the light of day again.

That rant was a bit emotional on my part. Lots of typos. But I hope you get it. I use my real name because I’d love to be confronted so I can stand my ground. I did at the G20 and have upcoming court dates for bogus charges. But I still trust juries because they are people. We can never lose the jury system or freedom is over. Besides, all Pittsburghers saw Fedralized Thugs on the streets here. Most know they were the provocateurs of the mischief. The students didn’t even act up until the stormtroopers image shocked them to something, even if a few morons broke winds, the police instigated the riots. I just ” trespassed” on a sidewalk near a hotel and was was charged also with “prohibited acts”. Ahern, I understand you’re upset about things you see like a lot of us are, but if you’re truly a student of world history you would know the contributions and sacrifices of Christians for the cause of freedom and liberty, is a little more noteworthy than the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, or Santa Claus. Matter of fact, you most likely wouldn’t have this forum to type all of your disdain for them on, if those who believe in “fairy tales” weren’t brave enough to stand up to the tyranny they were under in England. Ever heard of the Mayflower Compact? I should hope so, since it is in part what the Constitution was based on. Yes, I know you can point to instances throughout history where MEN were wicked and called it Christianity, this still happens today, but don’t forget that you can also be named among those within the freedom movement who misrepresent the heart of what we’re all trying to do. The church of Rome subverted the message of the gosple for political power. They subjected the whole world to the Dark Ages for more power and money. The whole world wonders after the beast that would seek to change the times and laws of God. That beast (Rome) changed the times by changing the solemnity of the sabbath from saturday to the day of the sun (sun worship, ever notice the sun dials?) and changed the laws by taking the comandment to not worship idols out and split the comandment about coveting your beighbors stuff in half to make up the difference. This way the pagans could still worship their Gods (saints) and they could garner the support of the exploding population of Christian converts and create the origional christian coalition.

maggie— the beginning of your post is the most ridiculous thing I’ve read in a while. But you’re right on the other part, if you don’t like it change the channel or turn it off. But they can turn off their religioous dogma at the same time. It is a choice on both parts. The whinning comes from the constant barrage and thumping of idiots who refuse to live in the here and now. If we could just work together and stay focused on what needs to be done, it sure would help. Maybe even get something done. Who really gives a f--- what anybody believes in? Thats not the issue, so why make it one? Get back on track.

If US could mount several invasions on other countries, why US could not eradicate drug production?

Anyone can readily ascertain from the Internet that the latest evidence, as reported in medical journals and historical books, is that Lenin died of syphilis. Yet Wikipedia has repeatedly removed reference to this probability and implied that he died as a result of suffering strokes. He was being treated with salvarsan, which is not a remedy for stroke!

The great thing about this site is that it brings people of 2 different backgrounds together for a common cause. In reading the post today, lets remember that we have a common enemy. NWO. Whether you believe in the spritual battle of good and evil that is behind the earhly deeds is up to you. But if you don’t have a spritual belief system that allows you to see the whole picture, don’t bag on those of us who do. The article is very accurate: Yes the war in AF/PAK-NAM is a front for restoring and maintaining the global opium trade, which the Taliban tried to eliminate, or at least control so they would reap the profits. A response to those whom are convinced that God does not exist. First, you are right to say that one cannot ‘know’ that God exists. There is a rule (or formula) in philosophy that says that there is a difference in the definitions of the phrases: ‘to believe’ and ‘to know’. ‘To believe’ something or someone requires faith and reasonableness of the information. ‘To know’ something or someone requires ‘proof’ of the information via ‘empirical-observation’, which is why darwinian-evolution cannot be known for a fact as the truth. Secondly, God is a spirit-being which cannot be seen. Therefore, a person can only ‘believe’ in God, not know. However, a person can ‘experience’ God and His activities through our 5-senses, and enable the person to have great confidence that God exists and cares for His people.

I have an urgent message for you, more important than any message you can hear. God is Holy and cannot accept sin(honor thy mother and father…, thou shall not kill, thou shall not commit adultery, thou shall not steal, thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor, thou shall not covet..etc…Exodus 20:12-17). It is a horrible and terrible place of everlasting torment that people will go because of their sins.

But God has provided a way for each to escape the lake of fire. He sent his Son Jesus(God manifest in the flesh-1 Timothy 3:16) who was conceived by a virgin by the Holy Spirit of God,lived a sinless life, and suffered a horrible death/shed blood and rose again 3 days later to take the penalty of YOUR sins so you dont have to pay for them in hell for eternity! He loved you so much which is why he did it! He is the only one to have fufilled the law perfectly(sinless) and paid the price of the entire world’s sins so that man could be saved on the merits of His perfection(see Romans 5:19). All you must do to be saved is BELIEVE in Him(trust in Him to save you as a sinner). You must admit your lost sinful condition to Him/that you’re worthy of hell, and ask Him to save you by placing complete trust in Jesus ALONE for salvation(an example in the Word of someone doing this- “And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.” Luke 18:13).It is not even partly by yourselves that you can be saved, but only by the merits of Jesus Christ!

No works or anything you do can save you! May God open your eyes, that one day I may see you in heaven. Read the Word of God(the 1611 King James version- NOT the modern versions, they are corrupt) before rejecting it! Death is fleeting. You may NOT have tomorrow! For death comes when we least expect it! Make sure you are saved TODAY! The Bible condemns the rich, the wealthy, and those who take advantage of the poor, so it CANNOT have been made up by the elite. Because the Word clearly CONDEMNS people such as those! It declares all mankind as sinners(myself included).

My fellow patriots lets not forget history. Our Founding Fathers declared their Independence from England. They seceded from England. England then came after them and in Lexington and Concord the Patriots defended themselves against the British. It wasn’t a rebellion or violent uprising. It was defense of freedom. The South seceded from the Union and declared their Independence from the tyrannical North and Lincoln sent the Union Navy to Fort Sumter where the Confederates defended their freedom. We should not resort to violence unless the Tyrants in Washington come for us. The proper way to do things is to secede from the Union, declare our Independence and creat a new government based on Constitutional and Common Law. Then should the Federal Government respond with force then we too must defend our freedom.
