UNIVERSITY students in New Zealand have offered a reward to anyone who makes a citizen’s arrest on US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice when she visits the country tomorrow.

But police have warned them to back off, saying there could be serious consequences for anyone trying to breach security to get to Dr Rice.

Auckland District Commander Superintendent Brett England said police were disturbed by the Auckland University Students’ Association (AUSA) challenge offering $NZ5000 ($3880) to anyone who made the arrest.

Anyone who attempted to penetrate the police security lines around Dr Rice would be stopped “and the consequences of such a security threat could be very serious indeed”.
