TUCSON, Ariz. – Jose Guerena was killed by Pima County Sheriff’s deputies as they searched his home. Initially, officers said he fired at them first, but later learned he never pulled the trigger.
Generally, law enforcement agencies use SWAT teams to serve search warrants if they believe the homeowner is armed.
Guerena’s supporters say that policy puts homeowners who are trained officers at risk and in this case, it cost a man his life.
Oath Keepers, a group dedicated to defending the U.S. Constitution, gathered at Purple Heart Park in Tucson Monday. They rallied in honor of Guerena, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Iraq War.
