Obama attacks checks and balances in his Supreme Court comments

US President Barack Obama on Monday challenged the “unelected” Supreme Court not to take the “extraordinary” and “unprecedented” step of overturning his landmark health reform law.

The President was quoted as saying:

“Ultimately, I am confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress,”.

While  arrogant rhetoric is nothing new for the child king president, these words serve as a true insight into the mind of a man who claims to have been a constitutional law professor.  Obama, and his current supporters, operate under the grossly incorrect idea that the United States is a democracy. Because of the failure of our educational system, years of pop culture propaganda, and the fact the election of our representatives– only one aspect of our process of governance– is democratic, Americans have been led to believe that democratic mob rule is what fuels our system of checks and balances.  While those who have usurped power in our government, such as Obama, have worked hard over many decades to try and make this so, the reality is that the United States is a republic that is based on law and individual rights that cannot be infringed upon.  The Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution limits the federal government only to the powers given to it in the document, reserving the rest of the power to the states.  Though supporters of Obamacare claim the commerce clause gives the federal government a blank check to do what it wants when it comes to the economy, in reality “regulation of commerce” is completely different than “creating commerce” which Obamacare’s individual mandate does.  Giving the power to the federal government to mandate people buy one product opens the door to mandating that they buy another product.  In a free society, you can’t force somebody to buy anything, even if you tell them that it’s for their own good.

Just because hordes of ignorant people voted for somebody with a charming personality who wants to radically transform the nation’s government into a fascist system that has already been proven to now work doesn’t mean he has the authority to do it, even if he did manage to persuade the majority of Congress to pass his crazy legislation.  The position of Supreme Court Justice is a lifetime appointment so that politics and re-election hopes are taken out of consideration when determining if the other two branches of government have overstepped their constitutional authority.

Deep down Obama knows these facts, but chooses to ignore them because they don’t serve his aims.
