Obama: Catastrophe coming if Congress doesn’t act

WASHINGTON – Republicans tried to push back against the ballooning size of President Barack Obama’s economic recovery plan Wednesday, even as he warned that the financial crisis will turn into “a catastrophe” if the bill isn’t passed quickly.

Obama summoned centrist senators to the White House Wednesday afternoon to discuss a plan to cut more than $50 billion in spending from the measure, which breached the $900 billion barrier in the Senate on Tuesday and appears headed higher.
Republican Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, as well as Ben Nelson, D-Neb., have tentatively agreed to cutting more than $50 billion from the bill, a Nelson spokesman said, though details weren’t yet available.
Their effort is central to building at least some bipartisan support for the bill, which has come under increasing attack for too much spending unrelated to jolting the economy right away.
Obama indicated he’s amenable to changes.
“No plan is perfect, and we should work to make it stronger,” Obama said at the White House Wednesday. “Let’s not make the perfect the enemy of the essential. Let’s show people all over our country who are looking for leadership in this difficult time that we are equal to the task.”

Right as I was archiving this story about 10 mins ago, they changed the article and watered down the headline….I guess the fact that they are using fear and control for another round of banker looting was just a little too obvious….

They will keep getting what they want from us till breaking point, which is just around the corner. once what they are doing reaches the public in critical mass their words and actions will simply not be accepted, we will realize government is useless and does nothing for anyone accept take our live away. I can’t believe we are still doing nothing! We as Americans are sitting back on our butts letting our nation crumble around us. Smaller countries are protesting and rioting against their governments. WHY AREN’T WE!!!! How much longer do we sit and wait? How much deeper do we want the NWO and cohorts to dig dig their trench lines. The time to act is now.
Phase 1) Peaceful demonstrations in every major US city on the same day. Make our positions heard and covered by the “drive by” media.
Phase 2) States banding together under a soverignity resolution similar to what New Hampshire put in Yesterday. (Google HCR006) Let Washington know we don’t need them!
Phase 3) This phase only gets implemented if “change” doesn’t happen from the previous two phases. I hope everyone knows what this entails without me spelling it out for you.
Its time to take a stand and let Washington know we are MAD as Hell and not gonna take it anymore! If anyone is willing to start organizing the peacfull demonstrations across the country, reply to this post and I will set things up here at home.

I totally agree with peaceful protests as did Ghandi and Martin King but I suggest while you aren’t demonstrating you work on self-sustainable living. Martial law will be declared and were probably on the wrong list if you know what I mean (FEMA camps). Get food and water ready for the hills. This one is going to be bad. If Joe Biden and Dick Cheney are saying it then that means they probably already have it planned.

How come I’ve never seen the story, that was even reported by CNN, about the woman who recomended squatting instead of being evicted. It’s the best idea yet. I subscribe to the WallStreetMarketNews.com who first alerted me to this recessionary market last year January 08 and luckily I was able to sell my shares in the stock market and buy Treasuries and sell short the financials making 09 very profitable for me.
Now the WallStreetMarketNews says that the U.S. economy will begin to show signs of recovering by May 09 while the “emerging markets” such as Russia and China will be severly hurt for possibly the next 2 years. Russia and China will suffer from having to scale back construction even more, manufacturing will deteriorate as Americans buy more American Made goods and services, Russians will have severe food shortages where people won’t go back to having to stand in line for Communist bread but will find no bread to stand in line for because they will be in a dire energy war.
Maybe this is why Putin in russia recently stated that he will do everything to help the U.S. in it’s “War on Terror”
Anyway, WallStreetMarketNews.com went on to say that foreign investment will surge into the U.S. financial system because it will simply have no better place in the world to go.
In the meantime, non-capitalist countries like France, Iceland, Russia, China will see more riots break out and more damage done to personal and private property.

I would trust wall st. ppl if they knew how to
- do risk assessment before act.
- think thoroughly that the chart is for looking at the history only, not for prediction as we never know what is the outside effect which charts cant predict.
- weigh lagging effect of christmas or seasonal adjusement when people spent a lot and that make some companies have liquidity, but what will happen after that money has all spent to workers and labours…and no more demand… it will go back to the loop.

Obama knows that our current economic policies cannot be sustained and thus continuing them will lead up into a depression/recession. His “plan” is to borrow even more money and dig an even deeper hole for us.
When he says ‘if we don’t act now there will be a catastrophe’, what he means is ‘there WILL be a catastrophe, but this way I can look like I tried to stop it’
