Obama Demands Right to Recruit Minors for Military

Humboldt County, California voters passed measures F and J last November prohibiting military recruiters from initiating contact with minors. Now the Obama administration is demanding that the law be overturned. A court hearing is scheduled for June 9 in Oakland, California. The measures which passed by a large margin allow recruitment to occur if the minor initiates contact. Federal government lawyers claim “irreparable harm” if the laws stand.
The cities of Eureka and Arcata cite international treaties which prohibit recruitment of children under 17. If the Cities prevail over the Obama administration in court, the legislation could likely be brought before voters in communities across the nation. Enforcement of the laws is on hold pending the court action.
The author of the legislation, Dave Meserve, described the ordinances as protecting youth from slick and persistent professional salesmen who identify the children as “prospects” though never reveal the facts that 18% of Iraq war veterans return with traumatic brain injuries and 20% with diagnosed post traumatic stress disorder.
“The federal government sets no minimum age limit below which recruiters may not contact kids to promote military enlistment” writes Meserve. An official Recruiter Handbook has this advice: “You will find that establishing trust and credibility with students, even seventh and eighth graders, has a strong impact on your high school and post-secondary school recruiting efforts.”
While minors can’t enlist without parental consent they can be signed up in the Delayed Entry Program, where they commit to enlistment after they turn eighteen. Those who have second thoughts are routinely misinformed about their right to rescind the commitment, in many instances the highly pressured recruiters resort to false threats of prosecution.

Soldiers can be reassigned to a different branch of the military. Some are misled into enlistment, being told they can “opt out” after arriving at basic training by “just talking” with their drill instructor. In the army once a recruit reports for basic training the recruiters quota is credited. “As a result of this misinformation, many of these kids go AWOL from basic training, or their first duty station, then call the Hotline for information.”
In her counseling, Blanken has found that “recruits who experience difficulties during training risk being victims of violence perpetrated by squad leaders, fellow recruits, and even instructors, who become frustrated at the struggling soldierʼs limitations, or failures, and resort to violence as a motivational tool and a method to affect morale in the rest of the unit. This violence and hazing is always debilitating, sometimes disabling, and occasionally deadly. Some complete their training and even a deployment, but can, even years into their term of service, get into trouble over issues stemming from recruitment violations. These problems can result in disciplinary issues and action against them, or charges under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and court martial and the discharges these people can receive can impede their future education and career goals. The worst cases end in suicide.”

Recruiters called my boy when he was thirteen, my son wisely gave the phone to me. The recruiter identified herself and said what she was calling about, I told her he was thirteen, she persisted and wanted him back on the phone, and I just yelled at her “HE’S THIRTEEN FUCKING YEARS OLD” and I just hung up. I was so dumbstruck I don’t think I said much more to her, just couldn’t friggin’ believe it.
homedawg, my son used to be completely gung-ho about being in the military, until I explained to him he would be nothing more than a thug for big business. He used to want to be in Special Forces until he found out they are all getting micro-chipped. He also saw a friend that’s four years older than him get totally swindled into the Guard with the assurance he would “Never” be deployed over seas, he was 17 at the time. Since last October he’s been in Iraq. Months before his deployment my wife and I sent him and his mother a copy of “Beyond Treason”, If they watched it they didn’t let us know. But I do know that someone I gave that film to showed his nephew who was completely into joining the military. Well, he’s not going to sign up and the uncle requested more copies of the film for his nephews friends, which I was more than happy to do.
A simple little $.02 dvd potentially saved a life or derailed a potential life of misery, have your son watch “Beyond Treason” and see if he’s comfortable signing his life away to the military. Also, for a great history lesson have him read the very short, to the point book by Gen. Smedley Butler called “War is a racket”, those two things should give him a very good understanding of what the gravity of his decision actually entails.
I’m all for kickin’ ass when kickin’ ass is due, but we have been lied to so badly in this country for the past 100 years and have “sacrificed” our sons and daughters to what, Molech? Think about all the times you’ve heard some politician or talk show host thanking them for “sacrificing” their son for their country and freedom, paalease! The U.S. government is absolutely corrupt and anyone who would lay down their life for it or the non-existant rights we think we have, are out of their minds.

The school gives military recruiters records of each child ( name address phone#) so they can contact each child about joining. Ask your school for the opt-out form , one for each of your kids. If you fill out the form it forbids them from giving your info away to the military.
I didn’t do it last year and a recruiter was calling here regularly.
They also recruit them at school.

And Section 9528 of his “No Child Left Behind” Act “grants the Pentagon access to directories with students names, addresses and phone numbers so that they may be more easily contacted and recruited for military service. Prior to this provision, one-third of the nation’s high schools refused recruiters’ requests.”

When I was coming out of high school, I was interested in joining the Army. I was lied to and told that I would be serving in such-and-such type of unit with all kinds of technology at my disposal. My older cousin looked up the MOS that I had signed up for and warned me that I would be nothing more than a part of a 3 man team attached to infantry that would set up and place a communications relay. I, of course, was not having that and learned quickly that as long as I don’t leave to report to Basic Training, I would be able to opt-out of the DEP.
Well! I was immediately deluged with phone calls from my recruiter, his buddies, and even the Command Master Sgt of the area’s recruitment battalion with everything up to and including being arrested and going to jail. Then they f’ed up when my grandfather (G-d bless his soul) picked up the phone and started in on him. He said something about calling his lawyer and they hung up rather quickly. The next day, I got a call requesting that I come down to sign my clearance papers. Less than six months later, I signed up with the Air Force, and with no bullshit got the exact job that I requested (although the MEPS NCO who “helped” you select a job was trying to push me into aircraft maintenance).
The point of that long story was to relate to what many have and are still experiencing with these lying, conniving recruiters who will do and say anything to get their quota met. Oh, and that Army recruiter? He had wanted me to “procure” a listing of other Juniors and Seniors at my high school so that he could solicit them with enlistment offers. These people are something else, Let me tell you.

My dad was in the Army and didn’t like it. He joined the Air Force and was in it for a while and then retired.

Before you go off on someone again, think about this: A lot of people join and serve for their country. They don’t know any better.
I was sent a lot of mail and stuff from the Army and Air Force because I was in JROTC in high school. I want to say that this program did not endorce joining the military nor was it against it, but it was a bit militaristic. This was back when I wanted to join the Army.
Right after graduating from high school, I found stuff about 9/11 being and inside job, conspiracies and all that. This is the reason I didn’t join the army. So I figured I’d join the National Guard. They claimed that I would not be sent overseas. A friend of mine had joined before me, but I found out he was in Iraq.
So once again, a lot of people don’t know better or get sucked into it! FPS video games are also a recruiter as well. I mean they even have America’s Army out for free! More people need to realize this.

The Houston recruiter threatening kids was enough for me to realize the 2 don’t belong together.
Pretty hard to defend against Obama’s policies about things like the Americorp or Year One servitude not being draft when you see them directly going after kids with bills like this.
It explains the problems with recruitment they have had the last few years, most adults know the service is not what it used to be and the image has been tarnished with policies like torture and rape.

Teach children what?
This society has become so pathetic in regards to kids. No child will respect another child because of any difference or past situations.
Bullies at school and the victims. The bullies already hate and the victims will start hating.
Disobedient kids think they can do what they want. They won’t listen to things like that.
Video games (I know, I’ve posted a few times about this, but it’s totally relevant to the article) teach children that violence is okay. It conditions them to stare at a box of light or a screen for hours on end doing nothing productive at all.

In other words, the most important single function of government is to secure the rights and freedoms of individual citizens.
The third important principle pertains to the source of basic human rights. Rights are either God-given as part of the divine plan, or they are granted by government as part of the political plan.
If we accept the premise that human rights are granted by government, then we must be willing to accept the corollary that they can be denied by government. I, for one, shall never accept that premise. We must ever keep in mind the inspired words of Thomas Jefferson, as found in the Declaration of Independence:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights; that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; that to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
The fourth basic principle we must understand is thatpeople are superior to the governments they form. Since God created people with certain inalienable rights, and they, in turn, created government to help secure and safeguard those rights, it follows that the people are superior to the creature they created.

I love it when things are blown completely out of proportion like this. It doesn’t say minors can be DRAFTED, just recruited. Like it says, current law doesn’t allow recruiters to talk to minors, unless you go to a school like mine in PA (where until you graduate high school and are over 18 you’re considered a MINOR) where they talk to anyone they want to anyway. Obama is just making their practices that I gave an example for above legal, just like wiretaps were already a reality, Bush just made it legal.

Though the Delayed Entry Program has existed for 38 years, it used to be the kid had to go to the recruiter to enlist and you had to be at least 17 to sign up and you had to have your parents’ consent. Well, I read the article and definately agree witht thr people out of California, keep the recruiters at bay, they don’t need to be setting on the poles waiting like some vultures for the next piece of meat. I served 20 yrs in the military and saw plenty of this, there are a lot of procedures in place to protect the new recruits. But unfortunately with two wars going on and growing these KIDS are being thrown into the mix, not much room for “SORRY “.
I hope the California courts tell the recruiters to stay the hell away from the young kids. I would like to add though there are the babies that mommy can’t seem to let go and they coddle them and call the senator every time their little baby runs out of money cause he partied too much or spent too much money on his armone jeans, and then tells mommy, they don’t pay me enough. I have seen both sides, but, I have to tell say I’m never in favor of the letting the recruiters have there way.

I wasted 20 Army years for what I thought was right. Now I know.
Now I talk to my grand children and great-nephews and nieces about why serving the Criminals-in-Charge is not the thing to do. I’ve told them that IF they’re called by a recruiter, call me, and I’ll go in with them to talk to them.
They get history about when the US was free as opposed to what they’re living in now.
I believe that some of it is actually sinking in.

The Delayed Entry Program has been going on since 1971. I was among the first to enlist under it. I saw a recruiter (Air Force) just after graduating from high school and, three months later, when I turned 18, I was off to basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio. Also new, at the time, was a program under which you could supposedly have the “freedom” to decide what you wanted to do in the service. I chose to be a photographer. I was made a photo lab technician, instead. I found out later that I was lucky to even get that, the others had been totally screwed by their recruiters and placed in combat units. The only reason I enlisted, in the first place, was to avoid being drafted and sent to Viet Nam. That strategy, at least, worked out. I spent my tour of duty in sunny Southern California, instead, playing my guitar in the lab between processing batches of film. Anyway, the point is, there’s nothing new about the Delayed Entry Program; it’s been in existence for 38 years.

I served 14 proud yrs in the military. I enjoyed every bit of it until I found out that the shots I was given before going to Germany ruined my liver and pancreas. I got no retirement, no medical benefits. I look at my bag of pills everyday and think of what a wonderful retirement the military gave me. When they call my “only” son I will definitely give them and earful and possibly go down there and talk to them. They will only call my house once. My son always asks me questions about my time in the service and I am brutily honest with him. Hopefully, he will not make the same decisions I made. Let’s teach our children how men are supposed to be honest and forthright. Let’s teach them not fall into the norm like these idiots who surround us.

I have a son who has Asperger’s Syndrome. When he was in high school, recruiters came to his SPECIAL ED CLASS to try to indoctrinate these kids. I called the school and made my complaint and when the recruiter called my house, I let him have it. He’s 28 now and out of the “danger zone” but what nerve! I’m sure the recruiter had a few takers as soon as they graduated – ADD’s, bi-polar, on meds, etc. They want bodies and it’s one of their population control techniques – kill off or sterizlize the men through warefare tactics and what do we have?

Yeah, Beyond Treason is a good documentary going into the use of biological/radioactive agents in war. Reminds me of a history teacher I had in public high school. He wasn’t only a teacher, but an active member of the Army Reserves and a rabid neo-Conservative. Almost everything he taught was layered with his propaganda.
Our school, like many others, had military recruiters set up tables in the cafeteria at least once a year, but that teacher also had an Army recruiter sit in the classroom with us for about a month straight. Granted, the recruiter wasn’t constantly talking. Often he would just sit in the far row and observe. It was bad enough 26 years ago when I enlisted and was fed a line of bull back then…. I can imagine how bad it has gotten now. Yes we need soldiers.. but do we really need to start them so young that they havent had a chance to really live? I do think that military service is right for some… and will make a man or woman out of those who need to learn discipline.. but there are those who just fall in love with the idea of being military and getting a great education and a career. people who jump right into that deep water and say “I do” and find out 6 months later that the honeymoon was over before it began…. too bad our givernments idea of truth… actually lacks truth to begin with

i’m in highschool and recently we had career day and every branch of the armed forces was there passing out informaation pamphlets when a marine tried to give me some stuff about joining the armed forces i told him to fuck off and that i dont want to become some baby killer and i told him that he should be ashamed of what is going on over seas. even on my x-box live there are downloads sponsored by the armed forces this all sounds like clever ways to recruit kids and young adults.

Perhaps you should have taken a different approach, maybe asked him a few questions….like “would you fire on American citizens” or “if given the orders, would you disarm Americans”. You could have asked about the soldiers views on the current administration and lack of attention to the Constitution. You could have even passed-out a few copies of The Obama Deception.
Don’t be so quick to judge, all soldiers aren’t drones…..don’t burn bridges with those who aren’t, or those who can be led to the truth.

Your know they say “with age, comes wisdom”
Well Im getting there, and I remember thinking my self how cool it would be if I could be in the military. I grew up playing GI Joe and all the other war games kids play, its part of our surroundings, Vietnam was always in the news. As a teen, We saw the recruiters as cool sharp and fit people who had made it into a elite group. Now I didnt get into the Air Force, I wasnt techy enough, but years later,when I was 23, I joined the Corps. My choice, for my family. It’s what I saw as a way to support my family. Was it easy? heck no! It’s a shock to your system, a way of life so differant no one understands. Sure there were times I regreted it, but I know I was an adult who made an adult choice. I’m proud I served with the Marines.
As a parent, I saw my oldest son enter the reserves and get screwed on everything he asked for.
He had a horrable experiance in the service. I know he hated it, but he love being able to say, He served as a Marine. I will not let my youngest go into the Military, I see what it will do to him and I wont lose him to the harsh treatments and trainings.
When they bring up this bill for a vote to the people i will support the fact that recruiters should be banned from k-12 schools, if they want fresh meat go to the collages and try there, no more ROTC at the schools, its all part of the prep for the future enlistment.
To sign a contract handing your life over to the goverment military you need to be an adult 21 and older, at least then you can drink and die for your country.

Your child from the time he is very little must be taught/indoctrinated by his parents on the whys and wherefores of the dangers that threaten his mom and dad and siblings and himself from the brutal government and it’s tentacles that reach right into his mind via media and indoctrination by government centers of indoctrination. HE MUST BE TAUGHT BY YOU and not the empire. One must teach how to hide the fact that you know what and why the government is setting up to put us all in some gulag of the controlled mind and body through avenues that must be identified and understood. Help your children survive and stay alive through the lies and bullshit the government process dumps on you. They are the most important asset you have to ensure survival of a free republic. Your child is the only asset the government, who considers you a human resource that can be traded on the stock market, needs and wants.

Obama should worry about the content of the army not just the age restrictions. If he was an army he should act like it. Take over a country if your gonna fight one. We do people fight wars? if they pass a law like this one … i believe that EVERY member of the US government from Federal to state to local, should be required to sacrifice every one of their own children to the US military. i bet there would be some objections if this was required under any new legislation. its FINE changing laws if you know they wont affect you personally. People in positions of power need to be the first to step up to the plate for emporer Obama. first in line for immunisations, first in line for flu shots, first in line for microchipping, first in line to feed their children to the war machine
